23/06/2023 - 12:07Desmond Doss was a conscientious objector during World War II, but still enlisted as a medic. At first, other soldiers looked down on him, but that quickly changed after he saved their lives during the battle for Guam. In Okinawa he single-handedly carried 50 to 100 wounded from the battlefield. His exploits earned him a Medal of Honor and were immortalized in Mel Gibson's 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge.
