Battle of the Caucasus

Beginning in the summer of 1942, Axis forces launched an offensive in the Caucasus region in an attempt to capture key locations.

In 2 months, they managed to advance to Mozdok, but they ran into an obstacle... The Soviets prevented them from continuing to advance.

Beginning in early 1943, Soviet troops expelled Axis forces from many occupied towns. Then, on October 9, 1943, all Axis troops were evacuated from the region, so full control of these positions was returned to the Soviets.
