Quick-Time Events, or QTEs for short, is a gameplay feature popularised by the game Shenmue in 1999, where players watch cinematics and press buttons following the indications on the screen. Although Shenmue coined the term Quick-Time Events, its use it's more well-known in some games like Heavy Rain or Telltale's The Walking Dead. Quick-Time Events can give games more of a cinematic feel — that's why so many games nowadays use them, making the cinematics feel more immersive.
