Out of the lantern and into the nightmare: Thresh surprises the community, joining the 2XKO roster alongside Senna
05/06/2026 - 09:10
Just when everything pointed to Senna being the main star of June in 2XKO, Riot Games had a surprise up their sleeve. The new Thresh Gameplay Reveal Trailer has confirmed that the terrifying Chain Warden from the Shadow Isles will also join the roster on June 9, becoming one of the most unexpected announcements for the fighting game community
Under the slogan "Delightful agony awaits," Riot presents a reinterpretation of the iconic League of Legends champion that retains all of his sadistic essence, but adapted into a much more brutal and spectacular combat style.
Thresh and Senna cross paths once again
The coincidence is no accident.
Within League of Legends lore, Thresh and Senna share one of the most significant rivalries in Runeterra.
For years, Senna remained trapped inside Thresh's legendary lantern, making her one of the Chain Warden's most famous victims. Her subsequent release sparked some of the most relevant events in modern League of Legends storytelling.
Precisely because of this, many players suspected that the recent promotional campaign centered around Senna might be hiding something more.
Riot didn't take long to confirm it.
A giant fighter specialized in control and punishment
The first gameplay footage shows a Thresh who is considerably larger than most of the current roster.
His design revolves around chains, grabs, and space control. The character can pull enemies toward him, unleash long-range strikes, and chain together combos designed to keep opponents under constant pressure.
Everything indicates that he will occupy a very different role compared to Senna.
While she focuses on spacing and transformations through Wraith Form, Thresh seems built as a rushdown and pressure character, capable of punishing mistakes with devastating sequences and extremely aggressive control tools.
The adaptation of "The Box" promises to be one of the game's most spectacular moves
One of the most talked-about moments in the trailer was the appearance of an adapted version of The Box, Thresh's most emblematic ultimate ability from League of Legends
Although Riot has not yet officially detailed his entire move set, the footage shows a much more violent and cinematic execution that immediately caught the attention of the competitive community.
The ability to translate iconic MOBA skills into the fighting game genre has been one of 2XKO's greatest strengths since its launch, and Thresh seems poised to continue that trend.
A marketing campaign that hid the truth
The revelation was accompanied by a clever viral campaign by Riot.
Over the last few days, several developers and community managers changed their social media profiles to adopt Thresh's identity, using names, images, and messages related to the character. They even broadcasted a stream titled "Ten Hours Trapped in Thresh's Lantern," a direct reference to Senna's captivity.
Many players interpreted these actions as simple nods to the lore.
In reality, they were part of the surprise announcement.
June 9 will be a key date for 2XKO
The simultaneous arrival of Senna and Thresh represents one of the largest content expansions the game has received to date.
In addition to adding two enormously popular champions from the League of Legends universe, Riot is introducing two radically different combat styles and a narrative rivalry years in the making.
And if this new trailer makes one thing clear, it's that Senna won't be the only one escaping the lantern.
Because the true master of the prison is also about to step into the arena.
And he seems ready to claim new souls.
