Thresh unleashes his full arsenal of torture in the new 2XKO Champion Spotlight

Riot Games has released the long-awaited Champion Spotlight for Thresh, offering the most complete breakdown to date of one of the most distinctive characters coming to 2XKO on June 9. Following the recent reveal of his move set, the new video dives deeper into how the Unrelenting Jailor actually functions within the game’s tag-team combat system, confirming that this is one of the most original fighters in the roster.
Originating from the Shadow Isles, Thresh retains much of the abilities that made him one of the most iconic champions in League of Legends, but adapted to a fighting game where space control and coordination with a partner are essential.
The first Strategist in 2XKO
Thresh officially inaugurates the Strategist archetype, a category designed for characters capable of manipulating the pace of combat and forcing opponents to constantly react. Riot defines him as a fighter specialized in long-range attacks, indirect pressure, and tools that alter both teams’ positioning.
His massive chain allows him to strike from unexpected angles, catch opponents, and control areas of the screen where few characters can compete. Moves inspired by Death Sentence, Dark Passage, and The Box return reimagined to fit 2XKO’s combat system.
The lantern changes the rules of the game
The most interesting element in the Champion Spotlight is once again Lantern Tag, an exclusive mechanic that could become one of the most influential tools in competitive play.
When Thresh deploys his lantern on the stage, character swaps can be performed directly to that position. This allows instant repositioning of a teammate, creates highly unpredictable combo extensions, and generates pressure from completely unexpected locations.
Unlike other assist systems seen in team-based fighting games, Lantern Tag turns the actual tag-in position into a strategic tool—something that does not currently exist on any other character in the roster.
A technical character, but more accessible than expected
Interestingly, Riot does not present Thresh as a character reserved only for experts.
Although his tactical depth appears enormous, official data suggests he is considered relatively accessible compared to more complex fighters. His main strength lies in attack range, while mobility, durability, and power remain balanced.
This could make him an appealing option both for new players and for those looking to develop advanced strategies over time.
Thresh and Senna arrive together in 2XKO
Thresh’s release is part of one of the most important launches Riot has made since the game’s announcement.
Senna will also debut on the same day, completing one of the most iconic rivalries in the Runeterra universe. Both characters share a deep connection in League of Legends lore, something Riot also appears eager to carry into 2XKO.
One of the most promising additions to the roster
After watching the full Champion Spotlight, it is clear that Thresh will not simply be another support character adapted from League of Legends.
His combination of stage control, tactical mobility, and unique mechanics points to a key role in the competitive meta.
And if Lantern Tag proves as powerful as it looks, the Unrelenting Jailor could end up redefining how teams are built in 2XKO.
