Surviving in ARC Raiders has never been solely about better gunplay or making it out alive. Resource management, risk-taking, and deciding what to keep or sacrifice are essential parts of every raid. Now, Embark Studios is expanding that economic layer with the arrival of Ermal, a new merchant landing in Speranza with exclusive items… and rather unfriendly demands.
The studio describes Ermal as an envoy from a group of nomadic surface dwellers, a faction seemingly accustomed to surviving far from traditional shelters. His arrival also adds a small new fragment of lore to the ARC Raiders universe, hinting that organized communities still exist outside known safe zones.
But the real draw is what he brings with him.
Ermal will offer special rewards on a weekly rotation, suggesting a dynamic trading system designed to create recurring goals for players. Instead of maintaining a static storefront, his inventory will change periodically, incentivizing continuous exploration and the hoarding of specific materials.
However, getting your hands on those items won't be a matter of standard currency.
Embark confirms that the merchant will demand the player's own gear alongside specific items salvaged from Topside—the hostile surface where most of the game's dangerous expeditions take place.
This detail is particularly interesting because it fits perfectly with the philosophy of extraction shooters: every major reward should mean giving up something valuable.
In practice, many players will have to decide whether to sacrifice useful pieces of inventory to gain access to potentially better rewards. It is exactly the kind of economic tension that usually works very well in titles where losing resources has real consequences.
The addition of Ermal could also shift regular behavior during raids. Items that previously seemed secondary could acquire strategic value if they become part of the new NPC's trading requirements.
