Gearbox Software has launched one of the largest content drops yet for Borderlands 4, combining a substantial new story expansion with the arrival of an entirely new playable Vault Hunter. Story Pack 2: FL4K and the Last Resort and Loveless the Hacker are now available on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as part of the Version 1.10 update.
The story expansion reunites players with FL4K and their loyal skag companion, Mr. Chew, while opening Providence: a lush tropical region filled with Tediore soldiers, corporate executives, volcanic hazards and fresh endgame loot. Loveless, meanwhile, introduces a highly aggressive playstyle built around hacking, corrosive infections, stealth, critical hits and a digital Wyrm capable of physically manifesting on the battlefield.
Although Gearbox presents both releases under the Story Pack 2 banner, the narrative expansion and playable Vault Hunter can be purchased separately. FL4K and the Last Resort costs $19.99, while Loveless the Hacker is available independently for $9.99. Both are included in the Borderlands 4 Super Deluxe Edition and Vault Hunter Pack, with the base game required.
FL4K Returns for a Hunt Across Providence
The central story of FL4K and the Last Resort begins when Tediore captures Mr. Chew, FL4K’s beloved skag companion. Players must join the returning Beastmaster, track down the people responsible and remind the corporation why interfering with a predator’s pack is rarely a good business decision.
The hunt leads to Providence, a remote island that once operated as an exclusive tropical retreat for the Electi chosen by the Timekeeper. Its luxurious facilities stand alongside dense wilderness and an active volcano, giving the expansion a visual identity substantially different from the harsher regions of Kairos.
Tediore has not arrived for a holiday. The corporation wants to control Providence’s valuable deposits of Ordonite and has deployed an expeditionary force to seize the island. Five elite corporate managers command the operation under the authority of the ruthless Lieutenant Harmony, establishing a clear chain of targets for FL4K and the Vault Hunters to hunt.
Rather than presenting Tediore as a collection of disposable grunts, the expansion gives the manufacturer a more dangerous invasion force. Its troops include soldiers operating combat exoskeletons that can continue fighting even after their organic operators have been eliminated. Larger Tediore machines arrive with interchangeable weapon systems, support abilities and the power to digistruct reinforcements directly into battle.
The campaign ultimately pushes players toward Providence’s volcano, which Tediore has converted into a fortified base. Reaching Lieutenant Harmony requires surviving the corporation’s army as well as the island itself.
An Active Volcano Turns Providence Into a Dynamic Battlefield
Providence is not simply a tropical backdrop for the new missions. The active volcano can spread Ordonite-infused lava across the island, while molten projectiles falling from the sky can produce miniboss encounters through new world events.
This should introduce an additional layer of unpredictability while players explore the region. Encounters will not always be limited to enemies positioned around a fixed objective, as environmental activity can create fresh threats and potential loot opportunities.
Vertical traversal is another important part of the island’s design. Players can grapple onto ziplines running above the jungle canopy, using them to reach elevated areas, move between sections of Providence and establish better firing positions before engaging Tediore forces.
The expansion also introduces activities inside Tediore’s digiverse. Vault Hunters can upload themselves into the corporation’s servers and fight waves of enemies before those forces are materialized in the physical world. This connects the expansion’s combat systems to the same biological-and-digital themes surrounding Loveless.
Players can expect new story missions, side missions, activities and collectibles throughout the island. According to the official Version 1.10 notes, Providence contains eight story bosses, including a new major boss, as well as 13 additional minibosses.
That is a significantly more precise content breakdown than the initial announcement provided and suggests that the expansion is structured to support continued farming after its central storyline has been completed.
Two Pearlescent Weapons and 18 Legendaries Await
A new Borderlands region needs a substantial loot pool, and Providence introduces two Pearlescent weapons, 18 pieces of Legendary gear and six new Legendary Class Mods.
The Pearlescent rewards are the Astonisher, a Ripper shotgun, and the Quadratus, a Vladof heavy ordnance weapon. These sit at the top of the expansion’s loot chase and should become priority targets for players interested in optimizing endgame builds.
The Legendary selection is distributed across multiple manufacturers and equipment categories. It includes assault rifles, pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles, an SMG, a shield, a Repkit and grenade ordnance. This variety means the new loot is not concentrated around one character archetype or weapon family.
Six additional Legendary Class Mods provide something relevant to each Vault Hunter, potentially opening new build combinations beyond simply increasing damage numbers. With Version 1.10 also raising the maximum level by ten, players will have additional skill points and new equipment to consider at the same time.
The level-cap increase applies to every Borderlands 4 player and does not require purchasing Story Pack 2 or Loveless. Existing endgame characters can therefore continue progressing even if their owners decide not to buy the new campaign.
How to Begin FL4K and the Last Resort
The Providence content is recommended for Vault Hunters at level 13 or above. Players using an existing character must first complete the “A Lot to Process” mission in the Fadefields.
After meeting that requirement and installing the DLC, the expansion can be started by interacting with a distress beacon near The Bones of Sanctuary in the Terminus Range. The corresponding mission should also appear on the ECHO map.
Players who want to begin with a fresh Vault Hunter can create a new character that starts directly at the Story Pack 2 content at level 13. This is particularly useful for anyone planning to experience Providence as Loveless rather than taking an established character into the expansion.
Starting Loveless directly at level 13 reduces the amount of repeated early-game progression required before experimenting with her complete combat identity. However, she is not restricted to Providence and can be used throughout the base campaign and other compatible Borderlands 4 content.
Loveless Combines Two Minds in One Vault Hunter
Loveless is a former Anshin hacker who abandoned her previous life to become an assassin. Advanced cybernetic modifications have transformed her body, but the defining element of the character is Wyrm: a digital virus created by Loveless that now shares her consciousness.
Wyrm is more than an artificial voice or passive companion. The virus can be digistructed into a physical creature, allowing both minds to operate together in combat. That relationship gives Loveless a dual identity built around the combination of biological instincts and digital precision.
Her core Trait is RAM. Loveless accumulates RAM by landing critical hits and applying status effects. As the resource fills, she receives increased gun damage. A fully charged bar can then be consumed through an empowered melee attack, creating a loop in which accurate shooting and elemental pressure prepare a heavier close-range strike.
This resource system encourages active combat rather than defensive waiting. Loveless benefits from maintaining pressure, applying effects to multiple enemies and moving between ranged and melee attacks as the encounter develops.
Her skills primarily deal Corrosive and Radiation damage, making her particularly attractive for players who enjoy elemental builds and status-effect propagation.
Three Action Skills Support Very Different Builds
Loveless has three primary Action Skills, each attached to a separate skill tree and combat identity.
Plague Star belongs to the Virology tree. Loveless throws a massive digistructed shuriken that pierces enemies, deals Corrosive damage and applies Contagion. When an infected target dies, part of its Contagion can spread to other enemies. Players can also activate the skill’s Executable to consume active infections and detonate them for area damage.
The result is a mob-clearing option designed to become more dangerous as infections move through groups. It should be especially effective in encounters with dense waves of enemies, including Providence’s digiverse activities.
Visual Paradox Nexus anchors the Hack/Slash tree. Activating it increases Loveless’ movement speed and critical-hit damage. Killing an enemy during its duration briefly cloaks her and creates a clone at the defeated target’s location.
Its additional Function unleashes a kusarigama slash that produces a wave of Radiation melee damage. Using the attack from stealth guarantees a critical hit but ends the cloak, creating a deliberate choice between preserving concealment and converting it into immediate damage.
Malignant Construct serves as the Manifestation tree’s Action Skill. It summons Wyrm as a combat companion and grants Loveless Symbiosis stacks. Wyrm can attack with tail strikes and toxic breath, teleport onto designated enemies and unleash a more powerful breath attack through the skill’s Executable.
This tree provides the most direct expression of the relationship between Loveless and her digital partner. Players who enjoy pet-oriented Vault Hunters can use Wyrm as an active battlefield presence rather than treating it as a purely cosmetic companion.
Functions and Executables Expand the Standard Action-Skill Format
Loveless introduces two additional concepts to her Action Skills: Functions and Executables.
Functions are fast secondary commands activated by pressing the Action Skill input again. They generally have short cooldowns and provide immediate utility, such as directing Wyrm to teleport or launching Loveless’ kusarigama attack.
Executables require the player to hold the Action Skill command and produce a more powerful result with a longer cooldown. Examples include detonating accumulated Contagion stacks or ordering Wyrm to release its enhanced breath attack.
These mechanics give Loveless more control than a character whose Action Skill is simply activated and then left to operate automatically. Players can decide whether to use the basic ability, trigger its quick Function or commit to the larger payoff of an Executable.
The distinction should also create considerable buildcrafting potential. Cooldown management, RAM generation, status damage, critical hits, melee scaling and Wyrm bonuses all provide different directions for specialization.
One Launch, Several Separate Purchases
Gearbox’s content structure requires some attention because Version 1.10 contains several releases that are not automatically included with one another.
FL4K and the Last Resort provides the Providence map, its narrative missions, activities, bosses and loot for $19.99. Loveless costs $9.99 as a separate playable character and does not require ownership of the Providence campaign once the base game is installed.
Players who own the Super Deluxe Edition or Vault Hunter Pack receive both parts. Purchasing only Loveless does not unlock Providence, while purchasing only the FL4K campaign does not automatically grant access to Loveless.
Version 1.10 also launches Bounty Pack 5: Amara and the Vile Shadows, but that is a separate product with its own ownership requirements. Its presence in the same update should not be interpreted as part of the $19.99 FL4K expansion.
The separation offers flexibility to players who only want a new Vault Hunter, but the naming can understandably create confusion. Checking existing edition entitlements before purchasing anything separately is therefore advisable.
Borderlands 4’s Latest Expansion Is Built for Hunters and Buildcrafters
FL4K and the Last Resort expands Borderlands 4 with a substantial new region rather than a single repeatable activity. Providence contains a complete campaign, side content, environmental events, new traversal systems and a sizable collection of bosses and farmable equipment.
Loveless adds a different kind of longevity. Her three skill trees, RAM resource and multi-stage Action Skills introduce enough mechanical variation to justify another campaign or endgame playthrough, especially for players interested in elemental damage, stealth or companion builds.
Together, the two releases form a major addition to the game’s first year of post-launch support. Whether players return to rescue Mr. Chew, hunt Tediore executives or create a new Loveless build, Providence is now open—and the hunt has already begun.
