Dark Awakening: Eclipse emerges from the shadows to transform the Crossout Wasteland

05/06/2026 - 13:40

The darkness has officially arrived in Crossout. Targem Games and Gaijin Entertainment have launched Dark Awakening, one of the most ambitious updates in recent years for the vehicular combat MMO. The expansion introduces a brand-new faction, never-before-seen legendary parts, completely fresh game modes, and a major narrative expansion to the post-apocalyptic universe. Centered around the mysterious Eclipse organization, this season introduces advanced technologies and new ways to fight that promise to deeply disrupt the current metagame.

Far more than a simple season, Dark Awakening represents a new era for Crossout, drastically expanding both construction options and tactical possibilities for players.

The Eclipse faction shifts the balance of the Wasteland

The core of the update revolves around Eclipse, an organization made up of former soldiers and specialists subjected to advanced biomechanical enhancement processes.

According to the official lore, these combatants retain their humanity while utilizing technologies vastly superior to anything previously seen in the Wasteland. Their primary objective is to protect Oracle—a central figure in the game's recent narrative—and expand their influence through the use of experimental weaponry and highly sophisticated combat systems.

Visually, Eclipse breaks away from Crossout's traditional factions, opting for futuristic designs, biomechanical structures, and vehicles with a much more high-tech appearance.

New legendary parts to revolutionize vehicle builds

Dark Awakening adds several top-tier parts engineered to vastly broaden customization possibilities.

Among the standout additions are:

  • Ark, a legendary cabin capable of deploying drones that mark enemies and amplify incoming damage.
  • Vendetta, a turret that fires sticky explosive projectiles.
  • Shroud, a module designed to inflict corrosion effects on opponents.
  • Wayfarer, an innovative epic front wheel that allows the vehicle to instantly snap its steering toward the camera's direction.

These parts reinforce Eclipse's technological identity and offer new tools for both hyper-aggressive players and more tactical builds.

Two new modes expand the PvP experience

One of the most interesting aspects of the update is the inclusion of brand-new game modes.

Short Circuit

An asymmetrical mode where one team must defend a network of generators while the opposing side attempts to destroy them before they finish charging.

Elimination Protocol

A highly unique premise where each player receives a secret target while trying to conceal their own identity among AI-controlled vehicles. Participants must locate and eliminate their target without becoming victims themselves.

The update also marks the return of the popular Squad Battle mode, which had been one of the community's most requested features over recent months.

Sandstorms shift the conditions of battle

Dark Awakening additionally introduces dynamic environmental phenomena.

Sandstorms can now roll in during specific PvP matches, drastically reducing visibility and forcing players to alter their strategies on the fly. Depending on the map and game mode, these storms will disrupt the pacing of engagements and add an extra layer of unpredictability.

This stands out as one of the season's most intriguing gameplay features, showcasing the studio's intent to keep expanding battlefield variety.

A Battle Pass packed with rewards

The season will run until early September and features a Battle Pass consisting of 75 main levels, alongside bonus levels for the most dedicated players.

Throughout the progression track, users will be able to unlock exclusive Eclipse parts, cosmetic items, crafting resources, and several of the new components introduced in this update.

Crossout keep evolving ten years later

Few games in the genre can boast this frequency of expansions after so many years on the market.

With Dark Awakening, Crossout isn't just adding content; it is broadening its universe, introducing fresh mechanics, and proving it still has the room to reinvent the vehicular combat experience that made it one of the longest-running post-apocalyptic MMOs available.

If Eclipse delivers on its promises, the future of the Wasteland will be much more high-tech.

And a whole lot more dangerous.
