The Eclipse Rises: A Wasteland transformed in Crossout's most ambitious season yet
05/06/2026 - 09:05
Darkness is advancing across the world of Crossout. Following weeks of teasers and developer diaries, Targem Games and Gaijin Entertainment have officially launched Dark Awakening, a brand-new season that introduces an unprecedented faction, futuristic vehicles, new legendary parts, additional game modes, and shifts that could significantly alter the metagame of the vehicular combat MMO
The "Dark Awakening" trailer serves as the introduction for an update revolving around a newly emerging force known as Eclipse—a technologically advanced organization arriving to disrupt the balance of power in the Wasteland.
Eclipse introduces a new elite faction to Crossout
The headline feature of the season is the arrival of Eclipse, a faction comprised of former elite operatives who have undergone advanced implantation and mechanization processes.
According to the official lore, these warriors represent the most technologically sophisticated group to ever appear in the Crossout universe. Although much of their bodies have been modified, they retain their human will and consciousness. Their mission is to protect an entity known as the Oracle at all costs, which serves as a central element in the game's recent narrative.
Visually, Eclipse breaks away from much of the traditional Wasteland aesthetic, opting instead for futuristic designs, biomechanical structures, and experimental technology.
New parts that shift vehicle construction
As with every major season, Dark Awakening incorporates exclusive new parts for vehicle customization.
Among the highlights are:
- Wayfarer, an epic front wheel capable of instantly snapping the vehicle to face the camera's direction.
- Shroud, a legendary module focused on corrosion mechanics and tactical combat management.
- Vendetta, a turret cannon that fires explosive projectiles capable of sticking to enemies before detonating.
- Ark, a new legendary cabin that deploys offensive drones to weaken targets and increase the damage received by marked enemies.
These additions reinforce the core philosophy of Eclipse, which relies heavily on advanced tech, tactical mobility, and debuff effects.
Two new modes expand the competitive landscape
Dark Awakening isn't just about adding parts and rewards.
The update also introduces two brand-new game modes:
Short Circuit
An asymmetric mode where one team must protect a series of generators while the opposing side attempts to destroy them before the charging process finishes.
Elimination Protocol
One of the most original concepts Crossout has seen in a long time.
Each player is assigned a secret target to eliminate, while multiple AI-controlled clones roam the map mimicking real participants. Players must identify their prey without revealing their own identity, all while avoiding becoming the next victim.
Additionally, the update brings back popular modes like Squad Battle, one of the experiences most requested by community veterans.
Sandstorms can now disrupt matches
Another interesting feature is the addition of dynamic weather events.
Sandstorms can now spawn randomly during certain PvP encounters, reducing visibility and modifying combat conditions in real time. Depending on the game mode, these storms can take different forms, forcing teams to adapt their strategies on the fly.
This mechanic aims to inject more variety and unpredictability into the battles.
A definitive season for the future of Crossout
Dark Awakening will be available until September 2 and features a Battle Pass with 75 main levels, alongside additional prestige levels for players who want to keep progressing beyond the initial content.
The sheer scale of this update proves that Crossout is still committed to constantly expanding its universe, even ten years after its first public versions.
And if the launch trailer makes one thing clear, it's that the future of the Wasteland is about to get much darker.
Because Eclipse hasn't come to survive among the ruins.
It has come to dominate them.
