Nearly a decade of adventure: Destiny 2 celebrates with Monument of Triumph, its most nostalgic update yet

05/06/2026 - 08:50

After years of slaying gods, confronting the Darkness, and exploring the most perilous corners of the solar system, Bungie wants to pay tribute to everything Guardians have achieved in Destiny 2. The studio has officially unveiled Monument of Triumph, a massive free update launching on June 9, 2026, which will serve as a grand celebration of the legacy built by millions of players since the game's release

The launch trailer confirms the arrival of both brand-new and revamped content, including the return of fan-favorite activities like Pantheon, the Sparrow Racing League (SRL), and Distortions, alongside a new triumph system designed to chronicle the lifelong journey of every single Guardian.

A celebration of Destiny 2’s entire history

Unlike traditional Moments of Triumph, which typically focused on the most recent year of content, Monument of Triumph spans practically the entire history of Destiny 2.

According to Bungie, the goal is to bring together experiences, activities, and rewards from different eras of the game so that veterans and new players alike can relive some of the franchise's most iconic moments.

The update will feature a massive monument located in the Tower that will act as the central progression hub. Players can complete special triumphs to earn a new currency called Legendary Marks, which can be used to unlock exclusive rewards.

The return of pantheon and other legendary activities

One of the biggest draws of the update is the return of Pantheon, the gauntlet activity that challenges players to face some of Destiny's most iconic raid bosses in modified and progressively harder encounters.

The wildly popular Sparrow Racing League (SRL) is also making its long-awaited comeback—a mode that had been one of the community's most frequent requests for years.

Additionally, the update introduces Distortions, activities designed to inject fresh modifiers and extra challenges into existing content, offering new ways to tackle familiar encounters.

Historic rewards return to the game

Bungie has also confirmed that Monument of Triumph will bring back a massive array of items that have been incredibly difficult to obtain or completely inaccessible for years.

Among the standout rewards are.

  • The Chatterwhite and Superblack shaders.
  • The All-Star Vector Skimmer vehicle.
  • Classic faction Exotic ornaments.
  • New universal armor ornaments.
  • More than 12 ornament sets per class.
  • New Exotic weapons like Fafnir and Heir Apparent.

The philosophy behind these rewards is to allow players to celebrate the game's full history without being locked out by content that is no longer available.

New abilities, armor, and balance passes

Monument of Triumph won't just be a nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Bungie has also confirmed a major overhaul of gameplay systems, featuring new abilities for several subclasses, Armor 3.0 updates, armor set bonuses, and balance adjustments for numerous Exotic armor pieces.

Highlights include new Aspects for the Solar and Void subclasses, alongside changes aimed at buffing options that had fallen behind other popular metas.

The dawn of new era for Bungie

The significance of Monument of Triumph goes far beyond the content it brings.

Bungie has recently confirmed that this update will be the final major live-service content drop developed for Destiny2, marking the end of an era that has spanned nearly a decade. While the game will remain playable and receive baseline support, the studio will begin shifting its focus toward future projects.

For this reason, Monument of Triumph is being presented as a genuine love letter to the community that has stood by Destiny throughout all these years.

A tribute to Guardians before looking to the future

From the downfall of Oryx to the conclusion of The Final Shape, spanning countless raids, campaigns, and seasons, Destiny 2 has woven one of the most extensive narratives in the genre.

Monument of Triumph seeks to honor that exact journey.

This isn't just about adding new rewards or activities.

It's about celebrating everything players have lived through for nearly ten years.

And starting June 9, every Guardian will be able to raise their own monument to prove it.
