Digimon Story Time Stranger: A Hero’s Eternal Legacy Expands Iliad in 2027

Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, a major new expansion for Digimon Story Time Stranger scheduled to launch in 2027. The DLC will continue the game’s story with a new protagonist, unexplored regions of the Digital World and more than 50 additional Digimon.

The expansion takes place three years after the conflict between the Agents and the Olympos XII, which threatened both the Human World and the Digital World of Iliad. Rather than presenting another isolated side episode, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy moves the timeline forward and explores the consequences of that battle through an entirely new adventure.

Bandai Namco describes the story as a journey centred on courage and friendship, with its mysterious new hero attempting to understand what it truly means to become legendary. The expansion is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam, although a specific release date and price have not yet been announced.

Iliad’s Story Continues Three Years Later

A Hero’s Eternal Legacy is positioned as a direct continuation of Digimon Story Time Stranger rather than a disconnected scenario. Its three-year time jump allows Iliad to evolve beyond the state in which players originally encountered it, potentially introducing new communities, conflicts and environments shaped by the aftermath of the Olympos XII crisis.

The original story follows members of ADAMAS, a secret organisation that investigates paranormal events. After a mysterious incident, the protagonist is transported eight years into the past and becomes involved in a struggle spanning Tokyo, Iliad and multiple points in time.

That narrative ultimately brings the Agents into contact with the Olympos XII, a group of powerful Digimon based on the twelve Olympian gods. A Hero’s Eternal Legacy begins after the events involving those factions, meaning its premise naturally contains information about the direction of the original campaign.

Players who have not completed Digimon Story Time Stranger may therefore want to finish its main storyline before exploring detailed promotional material for the expansion. Bandai Namco has not formally stated whether completing the base game will be mandatory, but its setting clearly assumes familiarity with the earlier conflict.

The passage of time should also help distinguish the expansion from the smaller episode-based DLC released during the game’s first year. Familiar locations and characters may return, but the focus shifts to another hero and a new stage in Iliad’s history.

A New Hero Must Build Their Own Legacy

Bandai Namco has not yet revealed the identity of the expansion’s protagonist, their background or the Digimon that will accompany them. The announcement only confirms that a new hero emerges three years after the previous battle.

This change gives A Hero’s Eternal Legacy an opportunity to examine Iliad from a different perspective. The protagonists of the original game entered the conflict as ADAMAS agents investigating anomalies between the Human and Digital Worlds. A character native to another organisation, community or part of Iliad could approach the consequences of that conflict very differently.

The expansion’s title places considerable emphasis on the idea of legacy. The new hero is stepping into a world already shaped by legendary Digimon, powerful organisations and the actions of the previous Agents. Becoming “legendary” may consequently involve more than defeating a powerful enemy. It could require understanding the sacrifices and relationships that allowed both worlds to survive.

Courage and friendship remain central themes, maintaining the emotional foundation of the wider Digimon franchise. Digimon Story Time Stranger already treated the bond between human characters and Digimon as an essential narrative and gameplay mechanic. Its expansion appears ready to continue that approach with a new partnership at the centre of the story.

Until Bandai Namco provides character profiles, however, the protagonist’s identity and role should remain open questions. No official name, partner Digimon or connection to the original cast has been confirmed in the written announcement.

More Than 50 Additional Digimon Join the Adventure

A Hero’s Eternal Legacy will add encounters with more than 50 Digimon not included in the original selection. This is a significant increase for a game that already advertises a roster of over 450 creatures to battle, collect and train.

Bandai Namco has not published the full list or explained whether every newly encountered Digimon will be recruitable. Nevertheless, the announcement describes them as additional Digimon introduced through the expansion, suggesting that the DLC will substantially widen the variety of creatures inhabiting Iliad.

The larger roster should have an impact beyond collection. Digimon Story Time Stranger uses a strategic turn-based battle system built around Attributes, Elements, Traits, Special Skills and interchangeable Attachment Skills. The available Digimon determine which combinations players can construct and how effectively their party can respond to different enemies.

Its Attribute system includes categories such as Vaccine, Virus, Data, Free and Variable, while eleven Elements provide another layer of strengths and weaknesses. A favourable combination can dramatically increase damage, but a poor matchup can make an attack ineffective. Adding more than 50 Digimon creates space for new Attribute and Element combinations, signature abilities and possible team roles.

The game’s non-linear digivolution system makes each addition potentially more valuable than a single isolated creature. Digimon can evolve through multiple routes, de-digivolve and retain selected benefits from their previous development. New species could therefore introduce additional branches connecting existing evolutionary families.

However, Bandai Namco has not yet confirmed the new digivolution paths or whether the expansion will make broader changes to training. Claims about particular forms, evolutionary requirements or competitive strategies would be premature until the complete roster is released.

Unexplored Lands Could Make Iliad Feel Larger

The expansion will take players into previously unseen parts of the Digital World. Iliad was already one of Time Stranger’s defining features, providing a fully realised world in which Digimon have settlements, responsibilities and their own social structures.

The base game includes environments such as Central Town, Gear Forest and the waters of the Abyss Area. These locations are not simply backdrops for random battles; their inhabitants have individual stories, motivations and quests connected to the wider condition of Iliad.

A Hero’s Eternal Legacy can build upon that foundation by moving beyond the territories explored by the Agents. New regions could introduce unfamiliar ecosystems and cultures while providing a credible home for the expansion’s additional Digimon.

The announcement refers to unexplored lands but does not officially describe the expansion as an open-world experience. It would therefore be inaccurate to assume that the new locations will form one seamless map. They may follow the base game’s structure of interconnected areas with their own traversal features, quests and Digimon populations.

Whatever form they take, the new environments will need to provide more than additional combat arenas. A large-scale expansion benefits from presenting places with their own identity, local conflicts and reasons to explore. Iliad’s existing design gives Bandai Namco and developer Media.Vision a strong foundation for that type of worldbuilding.

Familiar Combat Systems Have Room to Grow

Bandai Namco has not announced a new battle system for A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, so the expansion is expected to build upon Time Stranger’s established turn-based mechanics.

Parties in the base game contain up to six Digimon, with three active in battle. Players can switch between available party members without consuming an action, allowing them to respond to changing Attribute and Element matchups. Defeating wild Digimon increases their Scan Rate, and reaching the required percentage allows the player to convert them into allies.

Cross Arts connect the human protagonist more directly to combat. By synchronising the agent’s Digivice with their Digimon, players can activate support effects and follow-up attacks. Correctly exploiting enemy weaknesses helps charge the Cross Arts gauge, reinforcing the importance of party composition.

The expansion’s new protagonist will presumably require their own progression systems and narrative relationship with their Digimon. Whether they use the same Cross Arts, receive exclusive abilities or introduce a modified agent skill tree remains unknown.

Additional details will also be needed regarding level scaling. As a sequel-style expansion set three years after the main campaign, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy could be designed for established endgame parties, a completely new team or a mixture of both. Bandai Namco has not clarified whether players will import their existing Digimon, begin with a fresh roster or receive multiple starting options.

A Separate Expansion Beyond the Original Season Pass

Digimon Story Time Stranger already has a Season Pass containing three Additional Digimon & Episode Packs: Alternate Dimension, GAKU-RAN and Anti-ParadoX. Each of those releases adds a smaller story episode and five Mega-level digivolution paths.

A Hero’s Eternal Legacy appears considerably larger in scope, with a new protagonist, a three-year time jump, unexplored regions and more than 50 additional Digimon. Bandai Namco is explicitly marketing it as an expansion rather than another numbered episode pack.

Crucially, the publisher has not stated that A Hero’s Eternal Legacy is included with the existing Season Pass, Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition. The current official description of the Season Pass only lists Episode Packs 1, 2 and 3 together with the Golden Moai farm item.

Players should therefore not assume that ownership of those editions automatically grants access to the 2027 expansion. Bandai Namco still needs to confirm its purchasing options, upgrade paths and whether a new bundle will accompany its release.

A Simultaneous Return Across Five Platforms

A Hero’s Eternal Legacy is officially planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. This means the expansion is intended to support every platform on which the base game is currently available.

Digimon Story Time Stranger originally launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in October 2025. The Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions followed in July 2026, bringing the full RPG to both Nintendo systems.

No month or exact launch date has been announced beyond the 2027 window. Pricing, edition contents, save-transfer requirements and potential differences between the Switch generations also remain unconfirmed.

Even with those questions unanswered, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy represents a substantial continuation of Digimon Story Time Stranger. Its new hero, later timeline, unexplored territories and roster expansion suggest a project closer to a post-game sequel chapter than a conventional character or episode pack.

The Digital World of Iliad survived its previous crisis, but the announcement makes it clear that its story is far from complete. When A Hero’s Eternal Legacy arrives in 2027, players will return to discover how the world has changed—and whether its newest hero can earn a place among its legends.
