The first punch is only supposed to start the problem. Super Saiyan God SS Son Goku has joined DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA as Season 7's third new Hero, bringing a Damage-role moveset built around maintaining combos, accelerating through close-range fights and eventually unlocking a powerful finisher that rewards players for refusing to let their target breathe. Bandai Namco describes him as a divine Super Saiyan who dominates skirmishes through decisive punches, and his full kit makes that philosophy literal: almost everything he does becomes more dangerous once Goku starts connecting attacks in succession.
His arrival on October 14 follows Super Gogeta and Super Saiyan God SS Vegeta during a Season 7 that has doubled as GEKISHIN SQUADRA's first-anniversary celebration. It also completes one of the season's most obvious pairings, because Goku Blue and Vegeta Blue can perform an exclusive cooperative Super Attack when fielded together. For a 4v4 game built around combining individual Dragon Ball fighters into functioning team compositions, that may ultimately be the most important part of his design.
Decisive Fists turns staying on target into Goku’s entire game plan
Super Saiyan God SS Son Goku's passive is Decisive Fists, and it establishes the core rule immediately: keep hitting something. Rush Attacks and Skills increase a Combo counter whenever they connect with an enemy, while failing to land an attack for too long resets that counter to zero. Reaching maximum Combo grants extra HP and unlocks No Hard Feelings, giving Goku a major payoff for successfully maintaining pressure.
That creates a very different kind of Damage Hero from somebody who simply waits for cooldowns and dumps burst damage into the first target available. Goku wants fights to continue. Every successful connection pushes him closer to his strongest state, while disengaging for too long throws away the progress he has already built.
The resulting pressure should make him particularly dangerous in skirmishes where opponents cannot easily escape. An enemy already forced away from an objective or trapped around terrain is exactly the sort of target Goku wants: enough time to begin stacking Combo, enough proximity to continue attacking and eventually a much more dangerous finisher waiting if he reaches the threshold.
His Rush Attack gets faster once the combo starts rolling
Even Goku's standard Rush Attack changes once his Skills begin connecting. After hitting an enemy with a Skill, his Rush Attack temporarily powers up, gaining higher attack speed and increased movement speed while the sequence is being performed.
That sounds simple, but it gives his kit a clear internal rhythm. Skills are not isolated buttons used purely for their own damage. Landing them changes how effectively Goku can continue attacking afterward, which in turn helps maintain the Combo counter needed for Decisive Fists.
Once No Hard Feelings becomes available, the Rush Attack gains another offensive option. Goku dashes directly toward a targeted enemy Hero, can pass through walls during the approach and deals major damage on contact while applying No Obstruction to himself during activation.
Wall traversal is the detail that makes this especially dangerous. A wounded opponent who breaks line of sight by slipping behind terrain may normally have bought enough time to reset an engagement. A max-Combo Goku can potentially decide that the wall is no longer relevant.
Dragon Claw Barrage wants Goku physically inside the fight
Dragon Claw Barrage is exactly what its name suggests: Goku unleashes a continuous flurry of punches in a chosen direction while remaining able to move during the attack, before finishing with a heavier final strike.
The movement component matters. Fixed melee animations can become liabilities in a team battle because enemies simply step away or teammates displace the target while the attack is still playing out. Dragon Claw Barrage instead allows Goku to adjust while delivering the sequence, helping him remain attached to a target long enough to preserve his Combo.
There is also a spacing reward. Connecting with an enemy from sufficient distance increases the damage and grants Goku a Movement Speed Up effect. That encourages players to think about where the barrage begins rather than treating it as a button that should always be pressed from point-blank range.
For a Hero whose passive collapses if he loses contact for too long, extra movement speed is effectively another offensive resource.
Fierce Flash Blast gives a punch-focused fighter some breathing room
Goku Blue is clearly being presented as a close-range aggressor, but Fierce Flash Blast prevents the entire kit from depending on his fists. The Skill attacks enemies within range using an energy blast before triggering a second explosion for additional damage.
It is mechanically straightforward compared with the rest of the kit, and that may be exactly what it needs to be. A combo-driven character benefits from having a reliable way to continue registering hits when direct Rush Attack pressure is temporarily inconvenient.
The explosion also gives Goku another way to contribute while several enemies are contesting the same area. He may be strongest when pursuing one Hero aggressively, but GEKISHIN SQUADRA objectives rarely remain clean one-versus-one encounters for long.
Blue Spirit Surge lets Goku fight while the battlefield hurts people for him
The more unusual area-control tool is Blue Spirit Surge. Goku creates a field around himself that damages enemies whenever they touch it. Every contact causes the field to expand, and once its duration expires the entire area explodes, dealing additional damage and applying Movement Speed Down to enemies caught inside.
Most importantly, Goku can continue performing other actions while Blue Spirit Surge remains active.
That makes the Skill less like a conventional attack and more like an additional layer surrounding his normal combat loop. Goku can keep throwing Rush Attacks, using his other Skills or repositioning while opponents have to account for a damaging field that becomes larger if they repeatedly interact with it.
The movement penalty on the eventual explosion is particularly compatible with Decisive Fists. Slower opponents are easier to keep within attacking distance, helping Goku prevent the gap that would eventually reset his Combo counter.
The kit is therefore constantly solving its own central problem: how does a melee-focused Damage Hero remain attached to targets long enough for sustained aggression to matter?
God Speed Kamehameha rewards hitting crowds as well as individual targets
His first Super Attack is God Speed Kamehameha, an energy wave fired in a chosen direction before ending in an additional explosion. Goku can adjust his position and direction while preparing the attack, giving the player more opportunity to correct the shot before committing.
Landing the Kamehameha also grants Goku extra HP, with the amount recovered increasing according to how many enemies are hit.
That sustain gives the Super another connection to his overall identity. Goku is designed to remain involved rather than constantly retreating after trades, and recovering more HP for catching multiple targets rewards him for using the attack in the middle of chaotic team engagements.
It also means opponents clustering around an objective are offering Goku two things simultaneously: more damage value from the blast and greater survivability afterward.
Goku and Vegeta Blue can finally fire together
Season 7's most distinctive team interaction arrives through Kamehameha & Galick Gun, an exclusive cooperative Super Attack available only when Super Saiyan God SS Son Goku and Super Saiyan God SS Vegeta are fighting together.
Once both Heroes have their Super Attacks available, one player begins preparing the move. The second player can then interact nearby to join. When the initiating Goku fires, Vegeta warps to his side and the pair unleash the combined God Speed Kamehameha & Galick Gun.
The combined version gains greater range and a larger area of effect than Goku's individual Super.
This is exactly the sort of mechanic GEKISHIN SQUADRA's 4v4 structure should be able to exploit better than a conventional Dragon Ball fighter. Goku and Vegeta are not merely two separately licensed characters whose attacks happen to look appropriate beside one another. Their selection together creates an actual gameplay option unavailable to either Hero alone.
There is also a strategic cost. Both Supers must be ready, the players need to coordinate the activation and the second Hero has to be close enough to join. Using either Super independently removes that opportunity until resources are rebuilt. The spectacle therefore comes attached to a real team decision rather than existing purely as an animation.
Vegeta Blue and Goku Blue solve the same Damage role from opposite distances
The pairing becomes more interesting because Season 7's two Blue Saiyans are both classified as Damage Heroes, but their kits approach that responsibility differently.
Super Saiyan God SS Vegeta arrived on September 30 as a long-range attacker. His three Skills are Ki-based attacks, and his passive Indomitable Stance temporarily increases defense against frontal damage when activating a Skill. His entire design encourages Vegeta to keep enemies ahead of him, maintain range and overwhelm them through repeated projectile pressure before finishing with Final Flash.
Goku Blue moves toward the opposite end of the engagement. Decisive Fists rewards maintaining contact, Dragon Claw Barrage puts him physically on top of opponents and No Hard Feelings eventually lets him dash through terrain to finish the chase.
That creates an obvious team relationship before the combined Super is even considered. Vegeta can pressure opponents from distance while Goku becomes the Hero who closes the space and keeps them occupied once the fight collapses inward.
They share the transformation.
They do not share the same job.
Season 7 has added three Heroes with three very different identities
The contrast extends across the full anniversary lineup. Super Gogeta, Season 7's opening Hero, is Technical rather than Damage and focuses on close-range disruption, dodging attacks to empower his own Rush Attacks and applying defensive debuffs according to what he avoided. His Soul Punisher Super Attack creates a zone that enhances his offense and builds Punished stacks on enemy Heroes.
Super Saiyan God SS Vegeta then arrived as the second Hero with his ranged Damage identity. Goku Blue now becomes the third addition with sustained melee pressure and Combo management.
That makes Season 7 unusually coherent despite adding three extremely powerful Saiyan forms. Bandai Namco could easily have turned all three into variations of the same aggressive Damage archetype and relied on visual spectacle to differentiate them. Instead, Gogeta manipulates fights through Technical tools, Vegeta attacks from range and Goku builds momentum inside skirmishes.
For a roster already containing multiple versions of Goku and Vegeta, those gameplay distinctions are essential.
Goku Blue joins a roster already crowded with versions of himself
Super Saiyan God SS Son Goku is far from the first Goku in GEKISHIN SQUADRA. The current roster already includes Super Saiyan Son Goku, Son Goku (Mini), Super Saiyan 3 Son Goku and Super Saiyan God Son Goku, among other characters closely related to his different eras and transformations.
Super Saiyan God Goku is the most relevant comparison. Added with Season 4 during the half-year anniversary, that version is also a Damage Hero but specialises in large-distance attacks and building Red Fury before overwhelming opponents from range.
Goku Blue therefore continues a useful design philosophy: transformations are not simply vertical upgrades. Super Saiyan God SS may canonically represent a more advanced form, but selecting Blue does not make the earlier God Goku mechanically obsolete. They occupy different gameplay spaces and ask for different patterns of positioning.
That matters in a live-service roster where Dragon Ball naturally offers dozens of forms for the same handful of iconic Saiyans.
Blue arrives while the game itself is approaching a transformation
There is also a strange historical context surrounding Season 7. GEKISHIN SQUADRA is scheduled for a major overhaul at the end of 2026, with Bandai Namco and Ganbarion planning substantial changes to the battle rules, progression systems, visuals and overall gameplay cycle.
The developers have been unusually open about why. Their own explanation says the current game developed a significant gap between highly knowledgeable players and the wider audience, making the experience difficult to sustain. The overhaul is intended to make SQUADRA more approachable without completely eliminating the competitive and strategic depth that existing players value.
More importantly, the studio has confirmed that once the overhaul arrives, the existing ruleset will no longer remain available. This is not being positioned as another seasonal balance pass operating alongside the current game. It is a replacement.
That gives Goku Blue's arrival an unusual significance. He is joining near the end of the original version of GEKISHIN SQUADRA, becoming part of the roster at precisely the moment the rules governing that roster are preparing to change dramatically.
Season 7 is still celebrating the game that exists today
Before that overhaul arrives, the first-anniversary campaign continues. Season 7 began on September 9, exactly one year after GEKISHIN SQUADRA's worldwide release, with login campaigns, anniversary cosmetics, special Capsules and Super Gogeta as its opening Hero.
Goku Blue's release now coincides with the next phase of those celebrations. Season 7 Drops Vol. 2 begins on October 14 at 11:00 PM PT and runs through November 11, allowing players to earn rewards by watching eligible Twitch streams after linking both the game and Twitch to the same Bandai Namco ID.
Thirty minutes awards five P7G-Capsules, one hour provides 7,000 Zeni, two hours gives another ten P7G-Capsules and three hours unlocks an exclusive Icon.
Bandai Namco is also running another social campaign around Goku Blue's reveal: reaching the required community engagement target on the official new-Hero post awards five P7G-Capsules to players.
The release is therefore being treated as another stage of the anniversary rather than an isolated mid-season character drop.
The third Season 7 Hero may have the most “Squadra” Super Attack of them all
There are flashier individual attacks throughout the roster, but Kamehameha & Galick Gun represents what GEKISHIN SQUADRA is supposed to do differently from another Dragon Ball action game.
The entire game is built around four players combining Heroes with Damage, Tank and Technical roles, developing their power during the match and eventually using increasingly powerful abilities to dominate objectives and defeat opposing Heroes and bosses.
A Super Attack that literally cannot exist unless two specific teammates coordinate their resources captures that idea better than another gigantic beam performed alone.
Goku Blue's personal kit is about individual momentum.
His most spectacular move only exists when Vegeta is there too.
Super Saiyan God SS Son Goku is live now
Super Saiyan God SS Son Goku joins DRAGON BALL GEKISHIN SQUADRA on October 14, 2026 as a Damage Hero. His Decisive Fists passive rewards maintaining a Combo through continuous Rush Attacks and Skills, eventually unlocking No Hard Feelings and additional HP. Dragon Claw Barrage drives his close-range pressure, Fierce Flash Blast adds explosive Ki damage, Blue Spirit Surge creates an expanding damaging field and God Speed Kamehameha provides both burst damage and sustain.
Field him alongside Super Saiyan God SS Vegeta and the pair gain access to the exclusive Kamehameha & Galick Gun Team Attack, combining their Super Attacks into a larger and longer-reaching blast.
Season 7 began by giving players Gogeta.
Then it gave Vegeta divine blue power.
Now Goku has arrived to make sure nobody gets enough distance to enjoy it.
