Decades of Dragon Ball history collide in a single roster showcase. A new Super Limit-Breaking NEO trailer has assembled the expansion’s fighters for another look at the characters added to Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO, ranging from original-series veterans to warriors drawn from Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball GT.
This is not the announcement of another character pack. Super Limit-Breaking NEO launched on July 30 as the largest paid DLC released for Sparking! ZERO to date, and the new showcase instead gives its expanded lineup another moment in the spotlight. The expansion adds 33 playable characters, four stages, new Episode and Extra Battles, additional customization and the Limit Breaker Journey solo mode.
A Dragon Ball Roster Spanning Four Generations
Roster size has always been central to the identity of the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Super Limit-Breaking NEO reinforces that philosophy by adding fighters from multiple periods of the franchise rather than focusing exclusively on its most powerful transformations.
The original Dragon Ball receives some of the expansion’s most important additions. Mercenary Tao, Grandpa Gohan, General Blue, Chi-Chi, Demon King Piccolo, Ma Junior and World Tournament Goku are among the characters joining the game.
These fighters broaden the roster beyond the increasingly destructive battles of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. Their presence allows players to recreate earlier martial arts encounters and revisit the period when tournaments, specialized techniques and personal rivalries played a larger role than planet-threatening power levels.
Several of these characters are also making their first appearance in the Budokai Tenkaichi lineage. That makes the DLC more than a collection of alternate forms: it fills historical gaps and gives the original Dragon Ball era considerably stronger representation within Sparking! ZERO.
Bardock, Supreme Kai and Zangya Expand the Dragon Ball Z Lineup
Dragon Ball Z receives another selection of familiar and less predictable combatants. Super Saiyan Bardock is one of the expansion’s headline additions, bringing an alternate transformation of Goku’s father into the playable roster.
Supreme Kai, Mighty Mask, Kid Uub, Zangya and Chilled are also included among the Z-era selections. Their inclusion illustrates the expansion’s interest in characters who sit outside the franchise’s usual group of Saiyan protagonists and primary villains.
Zangya represents Bojack’s Galaxy Soldiers, while Mighty Mask recalls the comedic World Tournament disguise used by Goten and Trunks. Supreme Kai adds another divine character to the roster, and Kid Uub draws from the final stage of Dragon Ball Z’s story.
This mixture of major figures, supporting characters and unusual picks fits Sparking! ZERO’s arena-fighter identity. The game’s appeal does not depend solely on competitive balance or assembling the strongest possible team. It also comes from creating unlikely matchups, recreating specific scenes and testing characters who rarely receive a playable role in other Dragon Ball games.
Dragon Ball GT Brings Super 17, Vegeta and Trunks Into Battle
Super Limit-Breaking NEO also gives Dragon Ball GT a substantial presence. Super 17 leads the new GT selections alongside Hell Fighter 17, creating the components required to revisit one of the series’ central villain arcs.
Vegeta and Trunks receive their GT incarnations, while Nuova Shenron expands the playable roster of Shadow Dragons. These characters complement the GT fighters already available in the base game and provide more options for building teams around that period of the anime.
Super 17 is particularly significant because he has an established history within the wider Budokai Tenkaichi series. His return addresses one of the notable absences identified by longtime players when Sparking! ZERO originally launched.
The GT additions also strengthen the DLC’s broader purpose. Rather than building its entire identity around one film, transformation or recent anime arc, Super Limit-Breaking NEO acts as a large-scale roster expansion covering several generations at once.
Champa, Jaco and Cheelai Represent Dragon Ball Super
The Dragon Ball Super portion of the roster introduces Champa, Jaco and Cheelai among its playable characters. Champa brings another God of Destruction into the arena and creates an obvious counterpart for Beerus.
Jaco offers a more unconventional fighting style based on the Galactic Patrolman’s abilities and personality. Cheelai is an even less traditional selection, having been established primarily as an ally rather than a frontline warrior in Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
Their inclusion demonstrates how far Sparking! ZERO is prepared to reach when building its roster. Not every character needs to be a tournament champion or universe-destroying villain. The spectacle also comes from translating secondary characters into fully playable fighters and placing them against opponents they would never normally confront.
That philosophy is especially suited to an arena fighter with destructible environments, exaggerated transformations and attacks designed to recreate the scale of the anime.
Limit Breaker Journey Creates Custom Super Warriors
The expansion’s largest addition beyond its characters is Limit Breaker Journey, a solo mode that lets players develop a chosen fighter over the course of repeated battles and events.
Each journey unfolds across a map containing different destinations. Moving between locations consumes stamina, which can reduce the character’s starting health in the next encounter. Players therefore need to balance exploration, potential rewards and the risk of entering difficult battles at a disadvantage.
Opponents are assigned an SP value indicating their strength. More dangerous enemies award greater experience, while special events can provide training opportunities, character encounters and Battle Arts with additional statistical effects.
As a fighter’s SP increases, players receive points that can be distributed across six parameters. This makes it possible to shape a character around a preferred combat approach rather than following one predetermined upgrade path.
Characters developed through Limit Breaker Journey can subsequently be used in offline battles and Player Matches. The system therefore gives the solo mode a purpose beyond completing an isolated campaign, although the enhanced fighters are not intended to replace the standardized structure of competitive ranked play.
Four Stages, New Battles and More Customization
Super Limit-Breaking NEO introduces four new Episode Battles and additional Extra Battles alongside its expanded roster. These scenarios provide more structured encounters for players who want authored objectives and matchups rather than unrestricted versus battles.
Four completely new stages are also included. Among them are Kami’s Lookout, one of the franchise’s most recognizable training locations, and a version of Planet Vegeta connected to Bardock’s confrontation with Frieza’s forces.
The DLC further adds approximately 20 customization items, including costumes and Super Attacks. Players can use them to reproduce familiar scenes or alter a fighter’s available techniques, extending the game’s character-building options beyond cosmetic changes.
Taken together, the characters, stages and solo progression mode make Super Limit-Breaking NEO closer to a traditional expansion than a small fighter pack. Its main attraction remains the roster, but Limit Breaker Journey gives players a new framework in which to use those characters.
Free Combat Mechanics Accompanied the Paid Expansion
A free update launched alongside Super Limit-Breaking NEO, ensuring that two of its most important combat mechanics were not restricted to DLC owners.
Sparking! Boost allows a player in Sparking! mode to consume a large amount of Skill Stock in exchange for a major temporary attack increase. The additional power comes with a delayed cost, as the fighter suffers reduced statistics after the effect expires.
Chain Blast introduces a team-oriented combo option. After launching an opponent, players can switch to a reserve fighter and continue the attack with a Blast, creating new opportunities for damaging follow-ups.
The free update also added three variations of existing stages. These additions are separate from the four entirely new arenas included with Super Limit-Breaking NEO.
Super Limit-Breaking NEO Is Available Now on PC, PS5 and Xbox
Super Limit-Breaking NEO is currently available for Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam. Bandai Namco still lists the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions for release at a later date.
Players can purchase the expansion separately or obtain it through editions that bundle the base game with Super Limit-Breaking NEO. It is not automatically included with the game’s original Season Pass, so existing owners should check the contents of their edition before purchasing.
The latest character showcase does not introduce another wave of fighters, but it effectively summarizes what makes the expansion important. With 33 additions covering four Dragon Ball eras, Super Limit-Breaking NEO pushes Sparking! ZERO further toward its central ambition: placing as much of the franchise’s history as possible inside one enormous, destructive arena.
