Dune: Awakening expands the war for Arrakis' most valuable resource with a DLC focused on power, water, and survival

On Arrakis, water is worth more than any weapon. And the new downloadable content for Dune: Awakening seems built precisely around that idea. Funcom has officially launched The Water Wars DLC, a cosmetic and building expansion inspired by the dynasties that control one of the most important—and dangerous—resources in the Dune universe.

The focus is crystal clear from the very beginning: status, economic control, and territorial dominance through water.

The expansion revolves around the Water Shippers; groups associated with the transport and management of water within Arrakis. In a society where survival depends directly on access to potable water, controlling that resource means accumulating influence, wealth, and leverage over others.

And the DLC attempts to translate that exact identity into the game.

The content includes a massive building set featuring 52 pieces, designed to create structures inspired by the industrial and functional aesthetic of the Water Shippers. Added to this are 18 additional decorative items, expanding the options for personalizing bases with an identity clearly tied to the water trade and management.

But the pack isn't limited to architecture.

The expansion incorporates visual variants for stillsuits, light and heavy armor, as well as new skins for melee and ranged weapons. All of it maintains a coherent aesthetic line based on extreme survival and adaptation to the hostile desert environment.

One of the most striking elements is the inclusion of an exclusive variant for the Scout Ornithopter, allowing players to bring the Water Shippers theme into aerial transportation as well.

Additionally, the DLC adds exclusive emotes, custom colors, and other cosmetic elements aimed at reinforcing visual identity within the persistent world.

This thematic choice doesn't seem accidental either.

While many cosmetic DLCs focus solely on pure spectacle, The Water Wars leans directly on one of the central pillars of Dune lore: the constant struggle for scarce resources and the power derived from managing them.

This fits exceptionally well with Dune: Awakening, a game where survival, economics, and territorial control are deeply interconnected.

The community is already starting to debate the value of the content for players focused on building and settlement customization. The large volume of structural pieces could make this expansion a particularly attractive option for those looking to visually differentiate their bases.

There is also keen interest in whether future updates will further expand on the economic or political factions inspired by the universe created by Frank Herbert.

With The Water Wars DLC, Dune: Awakening serves as a reminder of a fundamental truth about Arrakis: he who controls the water rarely needs to control anything else.
