Arrakis has found an unexpected route into Fortnite. Funcom has teamed up with Meta4 Interactive’s Power Up team to bring Dune: Awakening into selected Fortnite creator islands, transforming established community experiences with sandworms, weapons and progression systems inspired directly by the open-world survival game.
The limited-time activation arrives shortly after Dune: Awakening expanded to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, giving Funcom another way to put the game in front of a much wider audience. Rather than creating a completely separate Dune island, however, the collaboration takes a different approach: Dune: Awakening mechanics are being inserted directly into popular Fortnite experiences that players are already visiting, including Crazy Red vs. Blue and Troll Bed Wars.
Dune Awakening is not simply getting another Fortnite map
The distinction is important because this is not being presented as a conventional Fortnite crossover built around a dedicated branded island.
Funcom worked with the Power Up team at Meta4 Interactive to integrate Dune: Awakening into existing creator-made experiences. Meta4 describes this model as a Native Playable Experience, where an IP becomes part of the existing gameplay loop rather than functioning as an advertisement positioned around it.
That means players can continue playing an established Fortnite creator island while suddenly encountering mechanics that belong unmistakably to Arrakis.
For this specific campaign, one of the principal destinations is Crazy Red vs. Blue, accessible through island code 2898-7886-8847. The existing PvP experience has been modified with a dedicated Dune: Awakening area containing three substantial additions rather than simply environmental decoration.
There is a sandworm to summon, a recognizable weapon from Funcom’s survival game and an elimination-based progression system with several unlockable rewards.
It is a relatively unusual crossover structure. Instead of asking Fortnite players to leave their preferred creator experiences for a promotional map, Funcom is effectively bringing Dune to where those players already are.
Players can summon Shai-Hulud directly into a PvP match
The most immediately recognizable addition is naturally the sandworm.
Players who discover and enter the appropriate secret code inside Crazy Red vs. Blue can gain access to a Thumper, one of the tools associated with attracting the enormous creatures that roam beneath the sands of Arrakis.
Once placed, the device calls Shai-Hulud.
The resulting sandworm is not simply a visual cameo appearing in the distance. Funcom says the creature erupts through the ground and directly affects the match, eliminating players and destroying structures in the surrounding area.
That gives the crossover a particularly appropriate interpretation of Dune: Awakening’s most famous environmental threat.
In Funcom’s game, the sandworm is something players learn to fear whenever they leave solid ground. Remaining exposed on open desert for too long can attract one, with vibrations determining how quickly the creature locates its prey. Losing a vehicle or valuable inventory to Shai-Hulud can have significant consequences.
Fortnite obviously does not reproduce that complete survival loop, but turning the worm into an unpredictable destructive element preserves the basic idea that summoning it should dramatically change what is happening around the player.
It also fits Crazy Red vs. Blue particularly well. A giant sandworm suddenly emerging in the middle of an established team deathmatch has the potential to disrupt both sides rather than functioning as a conventional weapon belonging exclusively to whoever activated it.
The Jabal Spitdart Rifle turns eliminated players into Spice
A second Dune: Awakening mechanic arrives through the Jabal Spitdart Rifle.
Players can acquire the weapon within the creator island and use it against other participants, but Meta4 and Funcom have added a visual effect specifically tied to successful eliminations.
Anyone eliminated with the Jabal Spitdart Rifle disintegrates into a cloud of Spice.
It is a relatively simple modification compared with summoning an enormous sandworm, but one that makes the weapon immediately identifiable as part of the Dune activation rather than merely reusing an existing Fortnite firearm with different branding.
The original Jabal Spitdart is one of the weapon designs players can encounter in Dune: Awakening, where ranged combat exists alongside blades, shields, abilities and equipment drawn from Funcom’s interpretation of Frank Herbert’s universe.
Its appearance in Fortnite consequently gives the collaboration another direct mechanical connection to the survival game rather than relying exclusively on imagery from Dune more broadly.
That distinction matters because this activation is specifically promoting Dune: Awakening, not simply the Dune franchise.
Eliminations lead through three levels of Arrakis mastery
Crazy Red vs. Blue also contains a dedicated Elimination Quest.
Players can enroll and begin progressing through three tiers of Arrakis mastery, with each rank unlocking another Dune-themed item for use within the creator island.
The first reward is an Atreides Scout Hood, followed by the Atreides Scout Helmet. Completing the final level unlocks Gurney Halleck’s Baliset.
These are presented as items that can be worn or used within the creator-island experience, rather than Funcom announcing them as general Fortnite Locker cosmetics available throughout Epic’s game.
That is another important difference between this promotion and the large Fortnite collaborations players may be accustomed to.
This specific Dune: Awakening activation is focused on gameplay occurring inside participating creator islands. The progression, mechanics and thematic rewards are integrated into those experiences rather than being framed as a Battle Royale-wide event.
For players interested primarily in the crossover itself, however, the quest provides a straightforward reason to remain inside Crazy Red vs. Blue beyond simply watching the sandworm appear once.
Troll Bed Wars has replaced lava with the sands of Arrakis
The campaign extends beyond a single island.
Troll Bed Wars, accessible with island code 9783-9810-3294, has also received Dune: Awakening content.
Its transformation is particularly direct. Areas that would normally contain lava have been converted into sand, creating exactly the kind of territory where players should probably be concerned about what might be moving underneath them.
And Shai-Hulud is once again part of the experience.
Troll Bed Wars ordinarily divides players into custom trio teams and revolves around building and improving bases, obtaining resources and attempting to destroy enemy beds so opposing players eventually lose the ability to respawn.
Replacing parts of that environment with Dune-themed desert terrain allows the collaboration to adapt itself to a fundamentally different type of Fortnite creator experience from Crazy Red vs. Blue.
That is effectively the underlying concept behind Meta4’s Power Up system: the same intellectual property can appear across several established experiences without requiring each creator to turn their island into exactly the same branded game.
Crazy Red vs. Blue incorporates Dune through weapons, progression and direct combat disruption. Troll Bed Wars instead modifies one of its core environmental hazards and introduces the sandworm into a mode built around attacking and defending bases.
Funcom chose established Fortnite communities instead of building from zero
Meta4 Interactive has been increasingly focused on this type of integration through Power Up.
The Montreal-based studio describes the approach as placing branded mechanics inside popular user-generated games instead of constructing promotional experiences that first need to attract their own audience.
That distinction is particularly relevant on Fortnite, where the Discover ecosystem contains enormous numbers of creator islands competing for attention.
A bespoke promotional island can offer greater control over presentation, but it also requires players to actively seek it out. Integrating content into an established experience means the campaign appears inside something with an existing community and gameplay loop.
Meta4 has previously used the same broader strategy for other entertainment and brand campaigns in Fortnite. The studio argues that the objective is to make the promotional material function as gameplay rather than interrupting gameplay.
Dune: Awakening is especially compatible with that philosophy because many of its recognizable elements can be translated into interactive systems.
A sandworm is a hazard. A Thumper is a player-triggered device. The Jabal Spitdart is a weapon. Atreides equipment can become a progression reward.
The IP therefore lends itself more naturally to playable mechanics than a crossover consisting entirely of billboards, trailers or static decorations.
The Fortnite promotion follows Dune Awakening’s console expansion
The timing is not accidental.
Dune: Awakening launched on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 22, substantially expanding the audience for a game that originally released on PC in June 2025.
The console release arrived alongside one of the most important updates Funcom has produced for the survival game so far.
Update 1.5 introduced a complete single-player mode, allowing players who have little interest in the game’s broader shared-world structure to explore Arrakis independently. Funcom also added extensive gameplay customization, with settings covering aspects such as difficulty, resource gathering, experience gains, durability and other survival systems.
The update additionally completed Book One of Dune: Awakening’s current storyline and introduced further quality-of-life and progression changes designed partly to make later content more accessible to solo players.
That represents a meaningful repositioning of the game.
Dune: Awakening originally launched with a strong emphasis on a persistent multiplayer survival world in which players could build bases, manufacture vehicles, participate in faction politics and eventually compete over Spice and other valuable resources.
The new version still supports that experience, but players now have considerably more control over how much multiplayer interaction they want.
The Fortnite campaign consequently arrives when Funcom is actively attempting to broaden the type of player Dune: Awakening can reach.
Film-inspired content arrived alongside the console launch
September’s expansion was also accompanied by the Filmic Archive DLC, drawing directly from the visual interpretation of Dune established by Legendary Entertainment and Denis Villeneuve’s films.
The package includes multiple armour sets, weapons, emotes, decorations and construction pieces inspired by the recent movies, covering factions including the Atreides, Harkonnens and Sardaukar.
That content exists separately from the new Fortnite activation, but both initiatives form part of a wider period in which Funcom is putting Dune: Awakening back in front of players following more than a year of post-launch development.
The company has also confirmed that the game will continue expanding.
One of the major additions currently planned for later in 2026 is the Polar Cap, a new survival map that will move players away from Arrakis’ familiar desert conditions and introduce an icy environment with its own survival mechanics, resources, equipment and standalone storyline.
Full cross-play is also planned following the console release.
The Fortnite activation therefore arrives at a transitional point: Dune: Awakening is no longer simply the PC survival game that launched in 2025, but a multi-platform project that Funcom is attempting to grow through substantial mechanical updates, new maps and broader promotional collaborations.
This is a temporary invasion of Fortnite
Anyone interested in seeing the crossover should not wait indefinitely.
Funcom says the Dune: Awakening activities will only remain available for several days before being “reclaimed by the sands.”
The company has not presented this as a permanent extension to the participating creator islands, meaning the sandworm encounters, Jabal Spitdart Rifle and associated Arrakis progression should be treated as a limited-time event.
That temporary structure also makes sense for the Power Up model.
The base Fortnite islands remain independent creator experiences before and after the campaign. Dune: Awakening temporarily modifies them, introduces additional mechanics and then leaves without requiring the creators to permanently redesign their games around somebody else’s IP.
For players looking specifically for the collaboration, the two confirmed destinations are straightforward:
Crazy Red vs. Blue — 2898-7886-8847
Troll Bed Wars — 9783-9810-3294
Both can be found through Fortnite’s Discover search by entering their respective island codes.
Arrakis entering existing games may be more interesting than another branded island
Fortnite has become one of the largest crossover platforms in gaming, and simply seeing another recognizable franchise appear somewhere inside it is no longer particularly surprising.
What makes this Dune: Awakening campaign more interesting is where the crossover has been placed.
Funcom has not announced another large standalone desert recreation that players visit once to see an advertisement. Instead, a sandworm can suddenly destroy structures in an existing PvP game. A familiar Dune weapon changes how eliminations look. Progress through normal combat produces Atreides-themed rewards. Another established island has had its environmental rules visually rewritten around Arrakis.
For Funcom, it is fundamentally marketing for the recently expanded Dune: Awakening. For the creators involved, however, the promotion also introduces temporary mechanics into games that already have their own communities.
Whether this model is more effective than creating an entirely separate Fortnite experience will depend on how players respond, but it addresses one of the obvious problems facing branded creator islands: convincing people to leave the games they already play.
Power Up’s answer is essentially not to ask them.
Dune: Awakening is available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while its Fortnite creator-island activation is live for a limited time in selected experiences.
