Birthdays are rarely quiet in Castor Woods. One year after survivors first entered its infected valleys, Dying Light: The Beast is preparing a three-week anniversary celebration built around shared objectives, player-selected modifiers and a daily calendar of free rewards.

The main event, Call of the Beast: 1st Anniversary Edition, runs from September 21 to October 12, 2026. Before that hunt begins, Techland is opening the celebrations with a Double XP Weekend starting on September 18, giving returning players an opportunity to strengthen Kyle Crane and reacquaint themselves with Castor Woods.

Call of the Beast turns the anniversary into a community campaign

Instead of limiting the celebration to a collection of login bonuses, Techland is asking the entire Dying Light: The Beast community to work towards global objectives. A new goal will be available during each week of the event, with every participating survivor contributing to the same collective target.

Completing these shared challenges will unlock exclusive anniversary bonuses. The final result therefore depends on the wider community rather than an individual player finishing a conventional bounty list alone.

That structure should encourage players to remain involved throughout the full event rather than completing everything during its opening weekend. Each week introduces another objective and another opportunity for the community to earn its corresponding reward.

Techland has not published every weekly target in the initial announcement. Players will need to monitor the event page on Dying Light Outpost as each phase becomes available. This gradual reveal also allows the challenges to become part of the anniversary’s weekly rhythm instead of being reduced to a single checklist.

Player votes will change the danger in Castor Woods

Community participation will extend beyond simply accumulating kills or completing objectives. Players will also be able to vote every week on how they want to confront the infected, with the winning decisions determining special gameplay modifiers for the weekend.

These modifiers will affect how combat encounters unfold across Castor Woods. The exact options may change between weeks, but the underlying idea is to let the community influence the conditions of the event before everyone returns to face the result.

It is an appropriate concept for an anniversary focused on shared survival. One player’s vote may be insignificant by itself, but the final community decision will alter the experience for everyone participating during the relevant weekend.

The event will also introduce more demanding enemies and rare Bober Infected appearances. Techland has not fully detailed their spawn conditions, so survivors should not assume they will appear everywhere or replace the standard infected population. Their inclusion nevertheless gives experienced players something less predictable to track while pursuing the global goals.

Crane’s Anniversary Drops deliver 21 days of rewards

A separate web-based reward calendar called Crane’s Anniversary Drops will operate alongside the in-game event. Beginning on September 21, a new gift will become available through the Dying Light Outpost landing page on each of the anniversary’s 21 days.

The rewards range from practical in-game supplies to store points, digital extras and festive weapon skins accompanied by their blueprints. Fridays will feature some of the calendar’s more valuable drops, giving players an additional reason to check the Outpost before heading back into the game for the weekend.

Despite the daily format, missing one day does not automatically mean losing its reward. Techland says players can return and claim previously unlocked gifts until October 19 at 14:00 CEST. After that deadline, anything left unclaimed will become permanently unavailable.

That distinction is important. Players do not necessarily have to visit the calendar at the exact moment every reward appears, but they must manually collect everything before the final claim deadline. Waiting until after October 19 will leave no recovery option.

The anniversary calendar is managed through the Outpost Web Hub rather than being delivered automatically through the game. Survivors interested in the complete collection should therefore remember to visit the web page instead of expecting all 21 rewards to appear directly in their inventory.

Double XP starts the celebration ahead of schedule

The main event does not officially begin until September 21, but the first anniversary festivities start earlier with a Double XP Weekend on September 18.

For returning players, the bonus provides an incentive to reinstall the game, revisit their equipment and rebuild some familiarity with Kyle Crane’s movement and combat abilities. Newer survivors can use the increased progression rate to unlock skills before the weekly community challenges begin.

It also creates a more natural transition into the main celebration. Rather than activating every anniversary feature simultaneously, Techland is using the XP bonus as an opening act before the global goals, player votes and daily reward calendar go live.

Update 1.7 prepares the game for the anniversary

The event arrives as part of Dying Light: The Beast Update 1.7, which also includes several gameplay and technical corrections. These fixes are less eye-catching than exclusive rewards, but they address issues that could directly affect the anniversary experience.

Race Challenges have received a correction for environmental assets that sometimes failed to break properly, potentially blocking the intended route and slowing players down. This should make challenge results more dependent on movement and execution rather than inconsistent obstacles.

The technical fixes include solutions for various crashes and errors, alongside several platform-specific improvements. Techland has addressed FPS spikes that could occur during boss encounters on PlayStation 5, stuttering in the Settings menu and screen tearing associated with Ray Tracing and Frame Generation on RTX 40-series graphics cards.

Update 1.7 does not represent a major mechanical overhaul. Its priority is clearly the anniversary event, supported by a smaller collection of targeted stability and performance fixes.

Why shared goals suit Dying Light: The Beast

The anniversary format reflects one of the strengths of the wider Dying Light series: individual survival can become a collective experience. Although Kyle Crane’s campaign is personal, Castor Woods can also be explored cooperatively, and the global goals extend that idea across the entire player base.

Not every participant needs to play in the same session or join the same cooperative lobby. Each contribution still feeds into the shared total, turning ordinary encounters with the infected into progress towards a community reward.

The voting system adds another layer by asking players to help determine the conditions of upcoming weekends. It is a relatively simple form of community influence, but it makes the event more interactive than a fixed sequence of preselected modifiers.

The main limitation is that much of the value depends on participation. Individual players may complete their own contribution, but the largest bonuses require the wider community to reach the announced thresholds. That dependence is intentional, although it also means the outcome cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Every important anniversary date

The opening Double XP Weekend begins on September 18. Call of the Beast: 1st Anniversary Edition and Crane’s Anniversary Drops both start on September 21, with the principal anniversary event continuing until October 12.

Daily calendar rewards can still be collected after the main event ends, provided players claim them through Outpost before October 19 at 14:00 CEST. Any unclaimed items will disappear permanently once that deadline passes.

After a year of experiments, chases, infected encounters and brutal nights, Castor Woods is inviting its survivors home. This time, everyone’s contribution—and everyone’s vote—will help decide how dangerous the celebration becomes.
