Sidekick Masters turns Fortnite into a turn-based creature battler built around elemental teams

Fortnite’s Sidekicks are no longer limited to following players around the battlefield. Sidekick Masters, a new creator-made island developed by Ghost Gaming, places the creatures at the centre of a complete turn-based combat and progression system built inside Unreal Editor for Fortnite.

Available through island code 8402-7861-9119, Sidekick Masters allows players to collect creatures, assemble a squad, customize their abilities and enter tactical battles where preparation matters more than conventional Fortnite shooting skills.

The experience combines creature collection with elemental matchups, randomized action resources, boss encounters and a long-term Rebirth system. Players can explore different areas, capture new Sidekicks, fill their Codex and strengthen their team before attempting to climb an increasingly difficult combat Tower.

Sidekick Masters is also one of the headline experiences in Fortnite’s Cuddles and Chaos initiative, a collection designed to promote games that use Sidekicks and other creatures as functional gameplay systems rather than passive cosmetic companions.

Ghost Gaming has built a creature RPG inside Fortnite

Sidekick Masters is immediately recognizable as a Fortnite experience, but it does not play like Battle Royale, Zero Build or most combat-focused Creative islands.

Players do not enter an arena, collect conventional weapons and attempt to eliminate everyone else through direct third-person combat.

Instead, they begin by choosing a Sidekick and gradually assembling a complete creature squad.

Progress revolves around exploring the available areas, encountering wild Sidekicks, improving the creatures already owned and preparing a team capable of surviving increasingly demanding battles.

The structure is much closer to a compact creature-collection RPG than a traditional Fortnite map.

Ghost Gaming has previously experimented with progression-heavy experiences through projects such as Super Pet World. Sidekick Masters develops that foundation into a more strategically focused game where the creatures are not simply collected for visual variety.

They are the player’s combat units, progression investments and primary method of interacting with the game’s challenges.

Turn-based battles replace Fortnite’s conventional shooting

The most significant difference between Sidekick Masters and standard Fortnite is its combat system.

Battles unfold through turns rather than real-time gunplay. Players select actions for their Sidekicks, manage the available resources and attempt to defeat the opposing squad through tactical decisions.

This immediately changes which skills matter.

Mechanical aim, building speed and movement techniques are no longer the defining factors. Team composition, elemental coverage, ability selection and resource management determine whether a player can overcome an encounter.

The slower structure also gives each Sidekick a clearer role.

A creature can be selected because it offers reliable damage, supports the rest of the squad, counters a particular element or provides an ability needed for a specific boss encounter.

The result is a mode that still uses Fortnite’s characters, environments and technical framework while appealing to a very different type of player.

Dice rolls introduce uncertainty into every turn

Sidekick Masters uses dice rolls to determine how many action points players receive at the beginning of a turn.

Those points control which abilities can be activated and how aggressively a player can act before control passes to the opposing side.

A strong roll can provide enough resources to execute a powerful combination, while a weaker result may force the player to defend, use a cheaper ability or reconsider the planned sequence.

This random element prevents battles from becoming completely predictable.

Players can construct an efficient team and prepare a strong ability set, but they cannot assume that every turn will provide the exact resources required for an ideal attack.

That uncertainty creates a balance between planning and adaptation.

A well-designed squad should be able to function under several different action-point totals rather than depending entirely on one expensive combination. Cheaper abilities may be less immediately powerful, but they can become essential when the dice refuse to cooperate.

Randomized resources can create frustrating moments, especially when an important boss encounter is decided by consecutive weak rolls. However, they also prevent every battle from following an identical optimized sequence.

The system rewards players who build flexible squads rather than relying on a single perfect turn.

Building a complete squad matters more than one powerful Sidekick

Sidekick Masters is structured around squad-based combat.

Players are encouraged to develop several creatures rather than concentrating every resource on one favourite companion.

A powerful Sidekick may dominate early encounters, but later battles are designed to test whether the complete team can respond to different threats.

This creates several layers of preparation.

Players must consider which Sidekick should lead the battle, which creatures can compensate for its weaknesses and whether the squad has enough offensive and defensive flexibility to survive a longer encounter.

Team construction also becomes more important as additional Sidekicks are captured.

A newly acquired creature does not automatically improve the squad merely because it is rare or visually distinctive. Its element, abilities and relationship with the existing team determine whether it offers a meaningful upgrade.

That creates a stronger collection loop than simply asking players to obtain every available creature.

Completing the Codex remains an objective, but successful progression also requires understanding what each Sidekick contributes in combat.

Nine elements create the foundation for tactical matchups

Sidekick Masters features nine different elements.

Each creature belongs to an elemental category that influences how it performs against different opponents. Building an effective squad therefore requires more than selecting the Sidekicks with the highest visible power.

Elemental advantages can make a difficult encounter significantly more manageable, while entering a battle with poor coverage can place the entire team at an immediate disadvantage.

The nine-element structure gives Ghost Gaming enough room to create a broad network of strengths, weaknesses and specialized roles.

It also provides a natural reason to continue capturing and training additional Sidekicks.

A squad capable of defeating one region or Tower boss may struggle when the dominant enemy element changes. Players must either strengthen their current team enough to overcome the disadvantage or develop alternative creatures better suited to the encounter.

This is where Sidekick Masters begins to resemble a genuine creature-battling game rather than a cosmetic showcase.

The Sidekicks are not interchangeable models placed over identical statistics. Their elemental identities shape how they fit into a wider combat strategy.

Skill customization allows Sidekicks to evolve beyond their starting role

Players can customize the skills available to their Sidekicks.

This means two versions of the same creature do not necessarily need to serve exactly the same purpose.

One player may configure a Sidekick around direct damage, while another may prioritize abilities that improve survivability or support the rest of the squad.

Customization also gives players a reason to experiment with creatures that initially appear less useful.

A Sidekick’s default setup may not fit the current team, but alternative skills can potentially transform it into the missing part of a stronger combination.

This system is especially important in a collection game.

Without meaningful customization, progression eventually becomes a straightforward search for statistically superior creatures. Every new rarity tier would replace the previous one, leaving much of the collection irrelevant.

Configurable abilities create more room for horizontal progression.

A Sidekick can remain valuable because of a particular skill or tactical function even after the player has obtained creatures with greater raw power.

Capturing Sidekicks gives exploration a permanent purpose

Sidekick Masters includes a Codex that records the creatures captured by the player.

This transforms exploration into more than a method of finding the next battle.

Every new area can contain Sidekicks that expand the player’s tactical options and contribute toward completing the broader collection.

Capturing creatures also creates a direct connection between exploration and combat progression.

A player who discovers a useful elemental type or ability can immediately begin considering how that Sidekick might fit into the current squad.

The appeal is not limited to optimization.

Creature-collection games are also driven by attachment, rarity and visual preference. Some players will pursue the strongest available squad, while others will prioritize particular Sidekick designs or attempt to complete every Codex entry.

Sidekick Masters supports both motivations.

The combat system gives each capture potential mechanical value, while the Codex provides a long-term objective for players who enjoy the collection itself.

The Tower provides the game’s central PvE challenge

The Tower serves as the primary test of a player’s squad.

Each stage introduces increasingly demanding encounters, forcing players to improve their creatures and reconsider their strategy as they climb.

This structure gives Sidekick Masters a clear progression target.

Exploration, capturing and skill customization all feed into the same objective: creating a team capable of reaching a higher floor.

Boss encounters provide the most important checkpoints.

A normal battle may be overcome through superior levels or a strong offensive opening, but bosses can expose weaknesses that remained hidden during easier encounters.

A squad may lack the correct elemental counter, sufficient durability or affordable skills for turns with limited action points.

When that happens, players must return to the broader progression loop.

They can level their current Sidekicks, capture alternatives, change their skills or trigger another Rebirth before attempting the encounter again.

Ghost Gaming has already expanded this part of the experience with an endless Tower format, giving advanced players a continuing challenge rather than a fixed final floor.

Rebirth turns restarting into permanent progression

Sidekick Masters includes a Rebirth system that allows players to reset portions of their current progress in exchange for lasting advantages.

Rebirth can unlock new areas, increase progression multipliers and provide permanent buffs that make subsequent runs more efficient.

The system gives the island an incremental-game structure beneath its creature-battling mechanics.

Eventually, the cost of strengthening the current squad becomes less efficient than beginning again with better permanent bonuses.

The player sacrifices short-term power in exchange for faster and stronger long-term development.

This creates an important decision point.

Rebirthing too early may erase useful momentum before the player has extracted enough value from the current run. Waiting too long can make progress unnecessarily slow when a reset would provide substantial multipliers.

The system also gives previously completed content a new purpose.

Earlier areas and Tower floors may no longer represent serious challenges, but replaying them after a Rebirth demonstrates how much stronger the player’s account has become.

That visible acceleration is one of the main attractions of persistent progression games.

Offline earnings keep progression moving between sessions

Sidekick Masters saves player progress and includes offline earnings.

Resources can continue accumulating while the player is away, reducing the amount of repetitive grinding required at the beginning of the next session.

This is a significant design decision.

Turn-based battles and creature collection provide the active gameplay, but offline progression ensures that the experience continues to reward regular returns.

A player can leave after reaching a difficult Tower floor and return later with enough accumulated resources to improve the squad, unlock another upgrade or prepare for a Rebirth.

The system also makes Sidekick Masters more accessible to players who cannot dedicate long uninterrupted sessions to Fortnite.

Meaningful progress does not depend entirely on remaining inside the island for several consecutive hours.

However, offline earnings must be balanced carefully.

If passive income becomes too generous, active battles lose their importance. If it provides too little, the system becomes a notification rather than a meaningful progression mechanic.

Its strongest function is to remove low-level repetition without replacing the strategic decisions required for difficult encounters.

The bond between player and Sidekick is more than promotional language

Fortnite describes Sidekick Masters as a game where a deeper bond can lead to greater victory.

That language reflects the wider purpose of the Sidekick system.

These creatures were designed to feel more personal than ordinary Fortnite cosmetics. Players can choose their appearance, give them names and bring compatible Sidekicks into different parts of the ecosystem.

Sidekick Masters extends that attachment through progression.

A creature is no longer merely present beside the player. It can be captured, developed, assigned new skills and incorporated into a squad that improves over time.

The bond therefore emerges from repeated use.

A Sidekick that survives difficult Tower encounters or becomes central to a successful team can develop a stronger identity than a companion that only performs cosmetic reactions during Battle Royale matches.

Ghost Gaming’s design does not need an elaborate relationship simulator to create that attachment.

Persistent combat progression is enough to make a favourite creature feel like a genuine partner.

Cuddles and Chaos gives Sidekicks an active role in Fortnite

Sidekick Masters is part of Fortnite’s Cuddles and Chaos collection, which highlights creator-made games built around creatures and companions.

The collection arrives alongside Epic Games opening Sidekick NPC functionality to UEFN developers.

Creators can now use Sidekicks through the NPC Spawner, define their behaviour with Verse and incorporate them into combat, exploration, farming, puzzle and role-playing experiences.

They can be instructed to follow players, attack targets, flee from danger, retrieve objects and react to different events.

Cosmetic Sync can also allow a compatible NPC to take the appearance of a player’s equipped Sidekick.

These systems create the technical foundation for games such as Sidekick Masters.

Ghost Gaming is not merely placing pet models into a conventional Creative map. The entire progression loop has been designed around collecting and controlling creatures.

That distinction makes Sidekick Masters an important demonstration of what the new UEFN tools can support.

Sidekick Masters and Sidekick Wars approach the same creatures differently

Sidekick Masters is being promoted alongside Sidekick Wars, but the two experiences interpret Fortnite’s creatures through very different genres.

Sidekick Wars, developed by FOAD, is a faster competitive strategy game where players build a deck of Sidekicks and spells before attempting to destroy the enemy Keep.

Its focus is direct competition, rapid decisions and real-time pressure.

Sidekick Masters takes a slower and more progression-oriented approach.

Its turn-based battles give players time to assess abilities and elemental matchups, while the Tower, Codex and Rebirth systems create a persistent PvE structure.

The comparison demonstrates the flexibility of Fortnite’s creature tools.

The same broad Sidekick concept can support a real-time competitive game, a turn-based RPG, a farming experience or a cooperative adventure without requiring every island to share the same mechanics.

For Cuddles and Chaos to become a meaningful category rather than a temporary promotional row, that variety will be essential.

PvP could eventually test the limits of the progression system

Sidekick Masters currently places its main emphasis on PvE progression, but Ghost Gaming has confirmed that PvP and live events are planned for future updates.

Competitive battles could significantly change how players evaluate their squads.

Abilities that are reliable against predictable Tower enemies may be less effective against a human opponent capable of anticipating combinations, targeting vulnerable Sidekicks and adapting to elemental choices.

PvP would also create a much stronger balance requirement.

Permanent Rebirth buffs, creature rarity, skill customization and progression speed would all need to be managed carefully to prevent established players from becoming effectively unbeatable.

A competitive mode could separate players by progression level or standardize certain statistics while preserving team-building choices.

Ghost Gaming has not yet detailed how the final system will work, so its impact cannot be assessed until the rules are confirmed.

The potential is considerable, but PvP will only strengthen Sidekick Masters if tactical decisions remain more important than accumulated account power.

In-island purchases create convenience but also require restraint

Sidekick Masters includes optional in-island transactions.

Available items include a Prism Berry, a Reroll Token and an additional Vault Slot.

These purchases appear designed around convenience and progression management rather than direct access to an unbeatable exclusive Sidekick.

Even so, monetization must be handled cautiously in a game built around random rolls, collection and long-term advancement.

Rerolling an unfavourable result or expanding storage can become increasingly valuable as players invest more time into the progression system.

The central question is whether the free experience remains properly balanced without those purchases.

Players should be able to construct competitive squads, complete the Codex and climb the Tower through normal play. Paid options can reduce inconvenience, but they should not become an unofficial requirement for overcoming progression barriers.

Sidekick Masters will need to preserve that distinction as more systems, creatures and competitive features are added.

Sidekick Masters gives Fortnite a convincing monster-battling identity

Sidekick Masters works because it does not treat Fortnite’s Sidekicks as a superficial theme.

Ghost Gaming has built a complete progression loop around them.

Players capture creatures, study nine elemental categories, customize abilities, assemble a squad and test that team through turn-based battles and Tower bosses. Rebirth and offline earnings then provide the persistent structure needed to keep that loop moving across multiple sessions.

The island still has room to evolve.

PvP and live events remain future additions, while the long-term depth of the elemental and skill systems will depend on continued balancing and content updates.

Its current foundation is nevertheless substantial.

Sidekick Masters demonstrates that UEFN can support a recognizable creature RPG without simply imitating Fortnite’s standard shooting mechanics.

The island can be accessed through code 8402-7861-9119.

This time, bringing the right Sidekick matters more than bringing the right weapon.
