The heroes of Eternia land in Fortnite in an unexpected, nostalgia-packed collaboration

Few franchises represent 1980s heroic fantasy better than Masters of the Universe, and very soon, some of its most iconic characters will be making the leap to Fortnite island. Epic Games has confirmed that He-Man, She-Ra, and Skeletor will arrive in the item shop on June 6th, further expanding the massive catalog of collaborations that has turned the battle royale into one of the biggest pop-culture crossovers in the industry.

The announcement was accompanied by a teaser that long-time fans immediately recognized: "What's Going On?" This is a clear nod to the popular viral internet meme inspired by the classic He-Man series, which has been circulating for years and became one of the most recognizable memes tied to the franchise.

Fortnite continues to expand its pop-culture museum

The arrival of the Masters of the Universe crew fits perfectly with the strategy Epic Games has been executing over the last few years.

What started as a simple battle royale has transformed into a massive entertainment platform where characters from video games, cinema, television, comics, anime, and pop culture coexist. Over just the last few months, Fortnite has introduced collaborations with franchises like Star Wars, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Mortal Kombat, Marvel, DC, and numerous historic gaming sagas.

The addition of He-Man and company further strengthens the presence of classic characters who shaped multiple generations of fans.

He-Man and Skeletor clash once more

The undisputed star of the collaboration will be He-Man, the legendary defender of Eternia and wielder of the Power Sword.

Alongside him comes his eternal nemesis, Skeletor, one of Western animation's most iconic villains. The rivalry between these two characters has defined the franchise since its birth in the 1980s and remains one of its most recognizable elements.

The collaboration also includes She-Ra, the star of her own spin-off series and widely considered one of the most influential heroines in fantasy animation.

A crossover blending nostalgia with new generations

The choice of these characters is particularly interesting because Masters of the Universe has experienced a notable resurgence in recent years.

New animated series produced for streaming platforms, re-releases of classic action figures, and various media projects have allowed characters like He-Man and Skeletor to reconnect with original fans while introducing themselves to a brand-new generation of viewers.

Epic seems to have tapped right into that intergenerational appeal—a defining trait found in many of the game's most successful collaborations.

What will the crossover include?

For now, Epic has only officially confirmed the characters' arrival in the shop on June 6th.

However, following the usual pattern for these types of crossovers, it is safe to expect that the bundles will include various additional cosmetic items, such as retro-backpack, themed pickaxes, exclusive emotes and special effects inspired by the Power Sword or the magic of Eternia.

Full details should be revealed shortly before the official launch.

Fortnite proves that any universe is possible

At this point, few collaborations can be considered impossible inside Fortnite.

Epic's ability to bring together characters from completely different franchises has made the game a unique phenomenon within the industry, and the arrival of Masters of the Universe is just another perfect example of that philosophy.

In any other context, it would be hard to imagine He-Man fighting alongside Marvel characters, facing off against Darth Vader, or sharing a match with modern video game heroes.

In Fortnite, however, that’s just a typical Friday.

And starting June 6th, the power of Grayskull will join the battle.
