Heroes of Might and Magic returns with Olden Era and sets Early Access after more than a decade of waiting

The wait has been long, but the return now has a date. After more than ten years without a new main installment, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era confirms its Early Access launch on April 30, 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for one of the most iconic strategy franchises.

This return is not merely symbolic. Olden Era aims to recapture the classic essence that made the franchise a benchmark, combining resource management, exploration, and turn-based tactical combat, but adapted to current expectations.

Early Access arrives with a solid content foundation. From day one, players will be able to choose from six distinct factions — Temple, Dungeon, Schism, Grove, Necropolis, and Hive — each with its own identity and playstyle. This element is key, as it defines strategy from the very first move.

On the narrative side, the game will include the first act of the campaign, making it clear that content will progressively expand until the full release. In addition, there are standalone scenarios with their own stories, designed to offer variety and replayability from the start.

The focus on game modes is also ambitious. Olden Era will include options such as Classic, Single Hero, and Arena, available both in solo and multiplayer. It will also feature matchmaking, ranked play, and leaderboards, indicating a clear commitment to competitive play within a genre traditionally more strategic than competitive.

One of the most notable points is the return of beloved classic systems, such as Hotseat, which allows players to take turns on the same PC, and the Random Map Generator, which ensures different games in each session.

A preliminary version of the map editor is also included,a key tool for those who want to create their own adventures and extend the game’s longevity.

With this launch, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era not only aims to continue the saga… but to reclaim its place in the genre.

The question is inevitable: after so many years, will you conquer the map again like in the old days… or discover that the world has changed more than you expected?
