The Bloodthirsty have completed the final stage of Make Them Bleed, unleashing Bloodskin into Hunt: Showdown 1896. Introduced as the ultimate community reward of the Blood Testament event, this new Boss Target brings a two-phase battle, a connection to the returning Hunter known as Lynch and another dangerous source of the powerful Siphon Burn Trait.
Bloodskin is not simply a monster that suddenly appeared in the corrupted territories. He was once Warren Russett, a desperate man trying to find a cure after losing everything. His search brought him into contact with Lynch, who offered him an experimental blood serum promising access to a greater portion of the Corruption’s power.
The treatment achieved something very different. Russett was physically transformed and consumed by an insatiable need for blood, becoming the creature now waiting in the Incursion areas. The cure has become a curse—and the person trying to escape a monster has become one himself.
The Community Has Unlocked Blood Testament’s Final Nightmare
Bloodskin’s arrival marks the completion of Stage 3 of Make Them Bleed, the large-scale community event running alongside Blood Testament. Instead of releasing every major addition immediately, Crytek asked the entire Hunt community to work toward a series of shared objectives.
Players contributed by killing monsters, defeating Targets and interacting with Blood Wells. Each completed stage permanently expanded the event’s gameplay, gradually transforming the bayou and Mammon’s Gulch as the total community score increased.
Stage 1 unlocked the Blood Moon, a dynamic nighttime condition that affects visibility and the behaviour of AI-controlled enemies. Stage 2 introduced Chupacabra, a Burn Trait that restores one Health Chunk when its owner interacts with certain animals. Stage 3 has now released Bloodskin, completing the event’s initial progression and delivering the creature Crytek had deliberately kept hidden before launch.
This community structure gave Blood Testament a sense of escalation. Players were not only progressing through an individual Battle Pass or completing personal challenges. Every successful Hunt contributed toward releasing content for the wider player base—even if the final reward turned out to be another creature determined to kill them.
Warren Russett’s Cure Became His Curse
Bloodskin’s origin continues one of Hunt’s most persistent narrative ideas: attempts to control the Corruption usually create something worse.
Warren Russett had lost everything and became willing to pursue a cure regardless of the cost. Lynch recognised that desperation and gave him a blood serum capable of channelling the Corruption’s power. According to Crytek’s official description, those who consume the serum become physically deformed and develop a hunger that cannot be permanently satisfied.
Blood may temporarily reduce that craving, but it never removes it. Smell, taste, touch, thought and instinct are eventually consumed by the same overwhelming need. By the time Russett became Bloodskin, the man beneath the mutation appears to have been almost completely overtaken.
Lynch’s precise intentions remain less certain. Crytek states that her obsession has no limits and that nothing will stop her pursuit, but the official material does not yet provide every detail about what she hopes to accomplish. It is reasonable to infer that Russett became either a failed experiment or an acceptable consequence of her research, although that interpretation has not been explicitly confirmed.
What is clear is that Bloodskin’s transformation was not a random result of exposure to the bayou. He represents a deliberate attempt to weaponise or channel the Corruption—another example of human ambition feeding the supernatural catastrophe already consuming Hunt’s version of 1896.
Bloodskin Is a Two-Phase Boss Target
Unlike a conventional Boss Target that maintains the same basic behaviour throughout an encounter, Bloodskin undergoes a complete transformation during the battle. Crytek describes the confrontation as a two-stage fight whose pace changes dramatically once enough damage has been inflicted.
During the first phase, Bloodskin is slow, heavily armoured and extremely dangerous at close range. His protective shell conceals the more disturbing creature underneath, allowing him to absorb punishment while delivering powerful attacks.
Players must damage the armour and reduce his health until the encounter reaches its transformation point. Bloodskin does not return to this initial state once the second phase begins.
After losing his protective exterior, the boss becomes a faster and more agile abomination. The second form can move around the combat area more aggressively and use new blood-related abilities. Official patch information also states that Bloodskin can teleport to ambush Hunters, creating an entirely different threat from the heavy but comparatively predictable creature encountered at the beginning.
The mechanical contrast is the defining feature of the fight. Loadouts or tactics that work effectively against the armoured phase may become much less reliable once Bloodskin begins rapidly repositioning. Hunters must be ready to change their spacing, movement and use of the compound instead of treating the encounter as a single sustained damage check.
Breaking the Armour Is Only the Beginning
Bloodskin’s initial shell encourages players to remain patient and carefully manage the first half of the fight. A heavily armoured target naturally increases the value of positioning, stamina management and attacks capable of applying consistent damage without exposing the team for too long.
The danger is spending too many resources before the transformation. Ammunition, healing items and defensive tools used against the first form will not return when the faster phase begins. Teams that enter the confrontation without planning for both stages may survive the armoured creature only to be overwhelmed once its mobility increases.
The second phase appears designed to punish static strategies. A creature capable of teleporting and ambushing players can disrupt safe positions, separate teammates and make revives far more dangerous. Remaining close enough to support the squad will be important, but grouping too tightly could also allow Bloodskin’s attacks to pressure multiple Hunters at once.
These are strategic implications drawn from Crytek’s description of the mechanics. The most effective damage methods and safest compound positions will ultimately depend on live testing across Bloodskin’s different possible locations.
As always in Hunt, enemy players remain the greater uncertainty. A team cannot focus exclusively on learning Bloodskin’s attack patterns. Gunfire, damaged armour and the sounds of the transformation may reveal the fight to nearby Hunters, giving rival squads an opportunity to arrive while the original team is wounded or low on supplies.
Defeating Bloodskin Rewards the Siphon Trait
Killing Bloodskin causes the boss to drop Siphon, one of the major Burn Traits introduced with Blood Testament. Siphon can also be obtained through Blood Wells or discovered in the world like other Scarce Traits, but defeating the new Target provides another confirmed source.
Siphon allows a Hunter to loot a Scarce Trait from the body of a defeated enemy. The stolen Trait is removed from the corpse and replaced by Siphon, turning successful PvP encounters into opportunities to acquire particularly valuable abilities.
The system prioritises Death Cheat whenever it is available. If Death Cheat cannot be taken, Siphon selects another Scarce Trait possessed by the defeated Hunter. For solo players, Necromancer becomes the next priority, although a solo cannot steal Necromancer from another solo Hunter; it can only be taken from a member of a team.
When Death Cheat is stolen, it remains active for the defeated player during the rest of that Mission. The theft still affects the Hunter’s longer-term Trait state, but it does not immediately cancel the protection already operating in the current match.
Because Siphon is a Burn Trait, using its effect consumes it. That limitation prevents Hunters from repeatedly stripping abilities from multiple bodies with a single copy, forcing players to decide when a defeated opponent is valuable enough to justify the exchange.
Bloodskin’s Banish Makes the Compound Even More Dangerous
The threat does not end when Bloodskin dies. Once the banishing process begins, nearby monsters become more aggressive in a manner comparable to enemies affected by the Intense Blood Moon.
This effect lasts for the duration of the banish, complicating what is traditionally an already dangerous stage of a Hunt match. The victorious team must defend the compound from rival Hunters while also accounting for more hostile AI in the surrounding area.
That additional pressure could affect several familiar strategies. Rotating away from the boss lair may become riskier if nearby monsters react more aggressively. External defenders could inadvertently reveal their positions while fighting AI, while attacking teams may find their planned approach disrupted before reaching the compound.
The mechanic also strengthens Bloodskin’s connection to the wider event. He does not merely appear during the Blood Moon storyline; his death temporarily reproduces one of its most important behavioural effects. The Corruption surrounding the creature continues to influence the environment even after his body has been defeated.
The Blood Moon Changed More Than the Colour of the Sky
Bloodskin arrives after players have already unlocked the first two stages of Make Them Bleed. The Blood Moon introduced in Stage 1 is divided into two dynamic phases that can change during a Mission.
During the Intense Blood Moon, the moon emerges from behind the clouds and covers the environment in brighter crimson light. Monsters become agitated, move more quickly and attack more aggressively. This creates additional pressure when rotating between compounds or attempting to remain silent near AI enemies.
During the Dark Blood Moon, clouds conceal the moon, reducing visibility and returning monsters to their normal behaviour. The red atmosphere remains, but the tactical conditions become closer to a conventional low-visibility Hunt.
Stage 2 subsequently unlocked Chupacabra. This Burn Trait allows a Hunter to restore one Health Chunk by interacting with a living horse, cow or animal cage. Dog cages permit separate interactions with all three dogs, while an entire chicken cage can only be used once.
Chupacabra is available from the Trait menu for two Upgrade Points following its community unlock. The selected animal dies when the interaction is completed, adding another grim survival mechanic to an event already centred on sacrifice, consumption and blood.
Bloodskin Strengthens Hunt’s PvPvE Identity
The most promising aspect of Bloodskin is not simply that Hunt: Showdown 1896 has another boss. It is the way his mechanics can create difficult decisions while other teams remain active on the map.
The first phase encourages commitment because Hunters must work through a protective shell. The second phase increases mobility and unpredictability. The banish then aggravates surrounding monsters, ensuring that the compound does not immediately become calm after the victory.
Each stage creates opportunities for another squad to intervene. A team can attack while the boss is still armoured, wait for the transformation or approach during the dangerous banishing period. The Hunters fighting Bloodskin must constantly judge whether to continue applying damage, search for enemies or temporarily disengage.
This overlap between a designed boss encounter and the unpredictable behaviour of human opponents is where Hunt is usually strongest. Bloodskin’s two-phase structure should generate more distinct windows of vulnerability than a relatively straightforward fight, particularly while players are still learning his attacks and audio cues.
Blood Testament Adds a New Shotgun and Wider Gameplay Changes
Bloodskin is the centrepiece of Stage 3, but Blood Testament and Update 2.9 contain considerably more than the new Boss Target.
The update expands the arsenal with the Burgess, a foldable slide-action shotgun. Bayonet and Trauma variants provide alternative melee attachments, giving Hunters access to either a blade or a hammer strike.
Combat balance has also changed. The Hunting Bow’s one-hit-kill range and reserve ammunition were reduced, while the Terminus received higher damage and a tighter spread. Heavy Knife hit detection was improved by increasing the height of its melee hitbox, and several pieces of equipment received adjusted Hunt Dollar prices.
Custom Loadouts can now save as many as 15 Traits, reducing the number of steps required to rebuild a Hunter. The maximum number of Hunter Slots has also increased from 75 to 100.
Update 2.9 additionally hides Extraction Points, Supply Points and Scout Towers by default. Investigating a Clue reveals two Extraction Points, while Scouting Maps and the Spyglass can uncover further information. These changes make navigation and information gathering a more deliberate part of each Mission.
The Hunt for Bloodskin Is Available Now
Blood Testament launched on September 8, 2026, and the Hunt community completed the three stages of Make Them Bleed shortly afterward. Bloodskin is now active as the game’s newest Boss Target on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Crytek originally described the community milestones as permanent, large-scale gameplay unlocks. Bloodskin should therefore be treated as a major addition to Hunt’s Boss Target roster rather than a creature available only for a brief promotional encounter.
His arrival completes the opening transformation promised by Blood Testament: the Blood Moon has risen, Chupacabra has been unleashed and Warren Russett has become the monster Lynch’s serum created.
The Bloodthirsty earned their reward by making the bayou bleed. Now they must survive what their collective efforts have released.
