Darksiders Genesis

Darksiders Genesis is an adventure and action platformer with a notable focus on cooperative gameplay, but it can be enjoyed as a single-player. If we play solo, there will only be one character on the screen, but we can switch between Fight and War at any time. Also, if we play with another person, either locally or over the internet, we can switch riders as long as the other player agrees.

As you can see at first glance, there is one quite noticeable changethe camera. Unlike the saga's traditional third-person camera, we now have an aerial perspective that leads us to think of possible changes in gameplay. Although it obviously does implement several changes in its proposal, this is an adventure game that knows how to keep the hallmarks of the saga.

There is action, exploration, puzzles, platformseverything you would expect from a Darksiders, but from a new perspective. The combat system has also been adjusted, and now we have two completely different styles. On the one hand, War offers us a hack & slash style, with combos and skills to cause as much damage as possible in the melee and, on the other hand, Fight, is responsible for shooting everything that moves, with different types of ammunition and is more focused on ranged combat. In addition, each character has unique abilities that can be used both in combat and to solve puzzles.

When it comes to platforming, everything has been approached the right way, but when it comes to control, it isn't quite up to par. When a lot of precision is required in a jump, despite using classic tricks like the shadow to see where we're going to fall, it’s more a matter of luck. Usually complex sequences are optional, but there are also a few in the main missions that, because of the control issue, end up being unnecessarily frustrating.

Apart from this last point, Darksiders Genesis is a highly recommended and fun game, especially when played cooperatively. It is a game with great content and ideas, and is very similar to the other games in the Darksiders saga.
