F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is a dieselpunk-style game which plays out in a universe filled with anthropomorphic animals. In it we are introduced to Rayton, an armoured rabbit equipped with cybernetic armour and a large fist capable of crushing any opponent who crosses his path.

The story of the rebellion that unfolds is not the most interesting part of the game. One event in particular will force Rayton back into action to fight against those occupying Torch City – a kind of a neon, dirty and futuristic dystopia with a high population density.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is not trying to offer anything new outside of the metroidvania genre, at least in terms of gameplay, which has already been done to death. As a result, it still has everything that makes these games so great, such as labyrinthine maps allowing you to explore different routes, points which are inaccessible until you get some kind of skill or attack, and a progress system so that you can upgrade Rayton as you see fit. What’s good about this game is not so much innovation, but instead achieving what it set out to do well.

F.I.S.T. delivers on all of the above and is accompanied by a good 2D combat system which is fast and agile, and can only really be criticised for being a little limited at the beginning stages. This changes, however, as you progress and unlock new attacks that lead to more ways to kill enemies. The control system is fairly simple, which is welcome. Something to keep in mind is to avoid getting overly damaged.

Enemy attack patterns are significantly varied to force you to have to rethink your strategy depending on whether opponents throw projectiles, fight melee or move fast. Naturally, at the end of each section, you’ll face bosses and put everything you’ve learned to the test.

It has to be said that what makes the game truly shine is the ambition behind F.I.S.T. The city ends up being the main event, thanks to all the attention to detail. It has a very vibrant feel and a variety of locations, which give way to Rayton’s fluid movement, both in the platforming areas and in combat – which is always a challenge.

There's no denying that one of the most striking aspects of F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is the graphics and sound. It was developed using Unreal Engine 4 and is a real spectacle due to the quality of scenery, effects and colour that actually give the city a slightly oppressive feel. It also has well-animated cinematics, and you can see that the main characters have been modelled to perfection.

F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is very playable indeed, with a minimum 20 hours of gameplay. Many more hours can, of course, be played should you decide to delve even further.

Con F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch podemos decir que tenemos una joya jugable con un mínimo de 20 horas pero que serán muchas más si deseamos investigar todo.
