Greak: Memories of Azur

12/02/2023 - 20:10

The Greak: Memories of Azur adventure is set in the legendary lands of Azur, where the magical Courines race find themselves fleeing the threat of the terrible Urlags.

Three brothers, Greak, Adara and Raydel, must get together with and help the inhabitants of Raven Road Camp finish building an airship in order to leave their lands and find their way in the region of Synoraz.

The story is simple but enjoyable, and the dialogue is very well developed. The game makes constant use of animated cutscenes so that you experience something new every time you land in a new location. The cinematics are extremely artistic – everything hand-drawn with smooth, natural transitions – and so are the characters and enemies themselves. Everything is produced using colourful 2D art that contrasts with the blurred backgrounds of the settings, all of which are packed with detail.

After a brief, playable introduction you will take on the role of Greak – the youngest of the three brothers – and start the search for Adara and the materials needed for the airship. The game is divided into three parts: the first part you are alone, the second with two of the characters, and the third with all three as a team.

Each character has abilities that set them apart from each other and so they complement each other perfectly. Greak uses a sword and crossbow, has a double jump and rolls forward; Adara can perform magic attacks, levitate and hold her breath for a long time underwater; while Raydel has the strongest attacks and the longest life bar, a shield and a hook, though is the only one who can't go near water, as he can't swim. Alternating between characters is key in order to complete each area encountered in the level design.

Playing Greak: Memories of Azur is a very positive experience. Navegante Entertainment has succeeded in bringing out a very enjoyable, fun first game which is impeccable artistically and boasts a fantastic story.
