Gorr the God Butcher is ready to begin his campaign against the divine when Marvel Rivals Season 10 launches on September 11, 2026. NetEase Games has presented the new Duelist through a character reveal focused on All-Black the Necrosword, the creation of Black Berserkers and a highly mobile fighting style designed to pressure enemies from unexpected positions.

The new character arrives as the central villain of Season 10: Butcher’s Blasphemy. After eliminating two deities in succession, Gorr has finally revealed his true form and taken his crusade to Yggsgard. His objective extends far beyond defeating Thor or capturing territory: he intends to destroy every god and remove their influence from existence.

Marvel Rivals will begin its Season 10 update on September 11 at 09:00 UTC. NetEase estimates that maintenance will last approximately two hours, after which Gorr will become available alongside the new seasonal story, Battle Pass, event content and balance changes.

A Duelist Built to Hunt Rather Than Hold Ground

Despite his imposing appearance and reputation for surviving battles against gods, Gorr enters Marvel Rivals as a Duelist. His role is therefore focused primarily on offensive pressure, securing eliminations and disrupting the enemy formation rather than providing the sustained protection expected from a Vanguard.

His announced design combines close-range brawling with mobility and limited ranged pressure. All-Black can alter its shape according to the situation, allowing Gorr to attack with different manifestations of the living weapon instead of relying on a conventional sword throughout every engagement.

The character reveal presents him as a persistent hunter. Rather than standing in one place and trading attacks, Gorr can reposition across the battlefield, create new angles and use his summoned creatures to divide the enemy’s attention.

This should make him particularly threatening against isolated targets and vulnerable backline heroes. A Strategist who concentrates entirely on Gorr may leave themselves exposed to a Black Berserker, while a player dealing with the summon risks losing track of the God Butcher himself.

The precise balance will depend on his launch statistics, cooldowns and defensive limitations. NetEase has not included a complete numerical breakdown in the written reveal, so conclusions about his competitive strength remain premature. Character trailers are deliberately constructed to demonstrate ideal scenarios and should not be treated as evidence that a hero will dominate normal matches.

All-Black Is More Than a Sword

At the centre of Gorr’s kit is All-Black the Necrosword, described as the first symbiote and a living weapon capable of assuming several deadly forms.

This adaptability allows the development team to represent more of Gorr’s comic-book abilities than a standard melee kit would permit. All-Black can function as a blade, generate extended attacks and ultimately transform into the considerably larger Annihilablade.

The weapon is also responsible for Gorr’s supernatural strength, durability and ability to create living constructs. In Marvel Comics, Gorr was originally a mortal without divine power. His transformation began after discovering that gods existed but had ignored the suffering of his family and people. Bonding with All-Black gave him the power necessary to turn that resentment into a universe-spanning campaign.

Marvel Rivals uses that relationship as the foundation of his gameplay. The Necrosword is not simply equipment held by the character; it acts as an extension of his body and will. Its transformations provide the visual explanation for his attacks, mobility and summoned army.

That approach is consistent with the game’s strongest character adaptations. Instead of attaching unrelated shooter abilities to a recognisable Marvel design, the kit translates one central fantasy—in this case, commanding a primordial symbiote weapon—into several connected mechanics.

Executed Enemies Feed the Black Berserker Army

Gorr’s most distinctive ability is his power to absorb the flesh of defeated enemies and convert it into Black Berserkers. These shadowy creatures can then be ordered to attack his next target, extending his presence beyond his immediate position.

Summoned units are relatively uncommon in Marvel Rivals, and Gorr appears to use them more aggressively than characters whose constructs primarily defend territory. His Berserkers are presented as hunters that join his assault and help overwhelm specific enemies.

This creates the potential for a momentum-based gameplay loop. Gorr secures or contributes to an elimination, converts the victim into an additional combat resource and then uses that resource to increase the pressure on the remaining team.

The exact conditions for generating a Berserker remain important. The promotional description refers to executing and absorbing enemies, but the public written material does not yet clarify every requirement, duration or limit associated with the summons. It is therefore unclear how frequently Gorr can maintain multiple active creatures during a standard match.

If their availability depends heavily on eliminations, he may become considerably more dangerous once a fight begins to favour his team. If the opposing side denies those executions, part of his pressure could be reduced. That would give the character a natural difference between initiating a fight and cleaning up a team that has already lost a member.

The Berserkers may also create a target-priority problem. Ignoring them could expose a Strategist or weakened Duelist to additional damage, but spending too much time destroying summons gives Gorr more freedom to attack personally.

Mobility Lets the Butcher Choose His Victims

NetEase describes Gorr as capable of travelling across the battlefield and attacking from unexpected angles. This mobility complements the Black Berserker system by preventing the character from becoming a predictable melee fighter.

A traditional brawler usually needs to approach through obvious routes, making them vulnerable to crowd control and ranged damage. Gorr’s symbiote-assisted movement should give him more flexibility when entering or leaving an engagement.

His summons may also act as part of that positioning game, allowing Gorr to spread pressure across more than one location. The result resembles a hybrid between a frontline brawler and a dive-oriented Duelist: durable enough to remain involved at close range, but mobile enough to threaten targets outside the central fight.

That flexibility could make him difficult to balance. If his movement, survivability and summon pressure are all too strong simultaneously, opponents may struggle to identify a reliable weakness. Conversely, lengthy cooldowns or limited escape options could punish players who use his mobility too aggressively.

Until the final ability values are available and players have tested him in real matches, the safest conclusion is that Gorr is designed around deliberate aggression. His movement appears intended to create attacks and unexpected transitions rather than simply allowing him to avoid every dangerous situation.

The Annihilablade Ends the Hunt

Gorr’s Ultimate unleashes the true power of All-Black by transforming the Necrosword into the Annihilablade. The enormous weapon increases his immediate offensive threat and coordinates the Black Berserkers already present on the battlefield.

NetEase describes the summons as entering a ruthless slaughter when the Ultimate is activated. This implies that its effectiveness will be connected to Gorr’s preparation before activation, rather than functioning solely as an isolated burst of damage.

A Gorr player who has already created several Berserkers may gain far greater value than someone activating the Ultimate without an established army. Opponents, meanwhile, may need to eliminate the summons or disengage before the Annihilablade can convert their combined pressure into a team wipe.

The mechanic reinforces the character’s central theme. Gorr does not merely swing a larger sword; he directs every manifestation of All-Black toward the same act of destruction.

The written reveal does not confirm the Ultimate’s damage values, duration, area of effect or precise interaction with each Berserker. Those details will determine whether it functions as an execution tool, an initiation ability or a way to secure control of an objective.

A Comic-Accurate Crusade Against the Gods

Gorr was created by writer Jason Aaron and artist Esad Ribić, making his comic debut during their Thor: God of Thunder storyline. His hatred originates in the suffering of his family and the apparent indifference of the gods he once worshipped.

After discovering that divine beings were real, Gorr concluded that they were selfish creatures unworthy of mortal faith. His grief became an absolute ideology: if gods would not protect those who worshipped them, they had no right to exist.

The Marvel Rivals interpretation preserves that motivation. Gorr is not presented as a conqueror seeking wealth or political control. He views his campaign as liberation, believing mortals will only become independent once every deity and religious institution has been destroyed.

That ideology makes Yggsgard a natural target. Thor and the Asgardians embody everything Gorr despises, while the seasonal narrative gives the God Butcher an opportunity to confront several divine Marvel characters within the same conflict.

Season 10 adds a new serial titled Butcher’s Blasphemy, accompanied by Gorr’s “All Gods Will Die” lore entry and a new Loki story called “Journey into Mystery.” These additions should provide the narrative framework connecting Gorr’s personal history with the wider Marvel Rivals universe.

Season 10 Builds Its Progression Around the Godbomb

The arrival of Gorr extends beyond his playable appearance. Season 10 introduces The Godbomb Battle Pass, containing ten new costume sets. Its highlighted rewards include White Fox – Cosmic Kumiho, Captain America – Astral Aegis and Loki – The Chronicler.

The season also launches The Tetrameron, a story event involving Loki in his role as the Chronicler. Players will be able to complete event tasks and collect rewards while advancing the seasonal narrative.

Gorr receives several additional cosmetic options at launch. The Divine Destroyer Bundle and Blue Requiem appearance will enter the store on September 11, alongside a new character animation. Players who reach Gold rank during Season 10.0 can earn the Gods’ Graveyard costume as a permanent competitive reward.

The update also includes a major Scarlet Witch rework and a broad balance pass affecting characters across all three roles. Strategists will experience lower Ultimate Energy generation from both healing and damage, potentially changing the pace at which support Ultimates become available during team fights.

Gorr will therefore enter a game undergoing wider systemic adjustments rather than a completely stable metagame. His first weeks will be influenced not only by his personal kit but also by changes to the heroes expected to fight alongside and against him.

The God Butcher Arrives on September 11

Gorr brings a particularly dark character fantasy to Marvel Rivals. His transforming symbiote weapon, aggressive mobility and ability to create Black Berserkers give him an identity that extends beyond being another melee-focused Duelist.

The concept is strong, but its competitive success will depend on the limits surrounding each mechanic. Summon durability, execution requirements, movement cooldowns and Ultimate scaling will determine whether Gorr becomes a demanding momentum character or an excessively self-sufficient threat.

Players will be able to begin answering those questions when Marvel Rivals Season 10: Butcher’s Blasphemy launches on September 11 at 09:00 UTC.
