24 Entertainment has presented the next major expansion for The Evolution, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT’s roguelike-inspired casual mode. The update adds Wanchu to its map rotation alongside a large collection of Techniques capable of producing sustained invisibility, major offensive bonuses, extended Ultimates, more forgiving Counters and several unconventional survival builds.

Wanchu is the maritime map introduced with NARAKA: BLADEPOINT’s fifth-anniversary update, not a new playable hero. When 24 Entertainment says that Wanchu is “entering the fray,” it means that the map is becoming playable inside The Evolution. Matches will randomly select either Wanchu or Perdoria, giving the mode a second environment with its own traversal systems, combat items and map-specific upgrade opportunities.

The content entered testing on August 27 PT, with its official release scheduled for September 2 PT. As the corresponding test-server notes warn, individual numbers, translated Technique names and even some effects may change before reaching the live game.

Wanchu changes more than The Evolution’s scenery

Wanchu was originally introduced as a regular Survival map on July 2, 2026. Its inclusion in The Evolution now brings the map’s aquatic combat and crafting mechanics into a mode built around increasingly powerful character builds.

Characters can fight both on the surface and underwater. The test version introduces moving Charged Attacks for weapons while swimming or diving, allowing players to hold Horizontal Strike and continue advancing during the charge. The timing of vertical and horizontal underwater attacks has also been adjusted, alongside earlier cancel windows and smoother transitions into water-skimming movement.

Those systems make Wanchu mechanically different from Perdoria rather than merely providing a new backdrop. Techniques built around Coralline materials, aquatic armor and Wanchu’s Ancient Oracle items connect character progression directly to the environment.

The update also adds more Soaring Arm mechanisms and relocates several Scout Bells. These changes should make vertical traversal and information gathering easier, particularly during matches in which teams need to move quickly between objectives and resource areas.

Ancient Oracle·Primal Echo, Ancient Oracle·Ethereal Descent and Sea of Calamity can be used repeatedly in the test build. Each carries a 120-second cooldown and a 360-second duration, although their effectiveness has been reduced to compensate for the possibility of using them more than once.

Primal Echo’s restoration falls from 250 to 200, while the associated reduction to incoming Soaked damage drops from 33% to 15%. Ethereal Descent’s strike multiplier is reduced from 4.5 to 2.25, and Sea of Calamity’s damage per second falls from 80 to 50.

This is an important balancing distinction. The update increases access to Wanchu’s strongest combat items but lowers their immediate output, encouraging repeated strategic use instead of a single overwhelming activation.

The Evolution remains a mode about building during the match

The Evolution operates differently from NARAKA: BLADEPOINT’s standard Survival modes. Players gather Cultivation Essence through combat, exploration and objectives, evolving through progressively stronger Tiers during the match.

Techniques are selected as those Realm upgrades are reached. They can grant additional statistics, modify basic combat mechanics, enhance specific weapons or substantially change a hero’s Ultimate. Different qualities determine the strength and rarity of the available effects.

The mode therefore combines NARAKA’s normal melee combat with a roguelike build system. Two players using the same hero and weapon can finish a match with radically different capabilities depending on the Techniques they find and the risks they take while exploring.

Wanchu expands that structure with 15 general Techniques in the current test build, plus two exclusive options for crossover hero Ye Xiu. Several are designed around the maritime map, while others significantly alter universal systems such as dodging, invisibility, Rage generation and Countering.

Hidden Edge rewards constant offensive pressure

One of the most heavily promoted additions is Hidden Edge. Landing three Uncharged strikes on enemies grants four seconds of invisibility.

The official promotional material refers to “full-time invisibility,” but the test-server description does not grant unconditional permanent stealth. The effect must first be triggered through successful attacks and lasts for a limited period. Players can potentially maintain or repeatedly reactivate it by continuing to land the required strikes.

This distinction matters for how the Technique is likely to function in practice. Hidden Edge rewards aggressive players who can maintain a combo, stay close to their target and avoid being launched away. It does not appear to provide passive invisibility while disengaged from combat.

If the effect can be refreshed before its previous activation expires, fast weapons and heroes capable of sustaining pressure may be able to remain hidden for much of an engagement. That would make visual tracking considerably more difficult without removing the need to earn the effect.

The mechanic also introduces a potential readability problem. NARAKA: BLADEPOINT already demands close attention to animation states, Focus levels and attack timing. Repeated invisibility during a melee exchange could make an empowered opponent substantially harder to read, particularly when several characters are fighting in a confined area.

Its final balance will depend on details not yet confirmed, including whether the invisibility breaks under every type of attack, how easily it can be refreshed and whether area effects provide reliable counterplay.

Solid Fundamentals turns defense into an offensive buff

Solid Fundamentals provides an 8% Attack increase after either a successful Dodge or Counter. The bonus disappears when the character is launched.

The Technique rewards defensive execution without forcing players into a passive style. A well-timed Dodge or Counter immediately improves offensive output, encouraging the player to capitalize on that short-term advantage rather than retreat.

Removing the bonus after a launch gives opponents a clear way to end the effect. The empowered player must maintain positional control and avoid losing the exchange, making the Attack increase dependent on continued execution rather than functioning as an unconditional statistical improvement.

Solid Fundamentals could become especially effective when combined with Techniques that make Dodging or Countering more sustainable. With Ease reduces Dodge Stamina consumption by 25% while the character remains at full Health, potentially allowing more frequent defensive movement before committing to an attack.

Counter King changes Counter into a stance that can be held for an extended period. Maintaining it consumes Stamina, and the stance can be cancelled manually.

This should make Counter timing more forgiving, but it does not remove the resource cost or strategic risk. Holding the stance for too long can drain the Stamina required to escape or continue attacking, while an opponent may simply delay the expected Focus Strike.

Together, the three Techniques can create a build based on defensive reactions generating offensive momentum. Their interaction will need careful monitoring because a longer Counter window, cheaper Dodges and an Attack bonus for successfully performing either action can reinforce one another.

Transformation heroes gain sustained Counter access

Transformation Trick allows Tianhai, Yueshan and Inor Wan to Counter after activating their Ultimates. This addresses one of the vulnerabilities associated with entering a transformed state, giving those characters another defensive answer against incoming Focus attacks.

The wording indicates that the Technique modifies their Ultimate forms rather than granting a universal Counter bonus to every hero. It therefore has no value without one of the supported characters but could become a defining part of their Evolution builds.

Battle Fervor provides another major benefit to transformation-oriented heroes. While Tianhai, Yueshan, Feria Shen or Inor Wan is in an Ultimate state, every 600 damage dealt extends the Ultimate by three seconds.

This creates a direct feedback loop. A successful Ultimate lasts longer, and the additional duration provides more time to inflict the next 600 damage required to extend it again. Under favorable conditions, a player who continually connects attacks may preserve an Ultimate well beyond its normal duration.

The mechanic is not completely self-sustaining because the player must continue dealing damage. Opponents can reduce its effectiveness by disengaging, using mobility to deny targets or preventing the transformed character from establishing momentum.

However, in crowded team fights, the number of available targets may make repeated extensions considerably easier. Battle Fervor could therefore be much stronger in team modes than in isolated encounters.

Last Stand provides a powerful emergency reversal

Last Stand activates when the player’s Health drops below 10%. It grants 60% Rage and launches all nearby enemies, with a 240-second cooldown.

The Technique combines survival, space creation and Ultimate generation. Knocking opponents away can interrupt an attempted finishing sequence, while the Rage injection may immediately provide access to an Ultimate or move the player significantly closer to one.

Because the activation threshold is extremely low, Last Stand remains risky. A powerful attack could eliminate the player without leaving enough time for the effect to matter, depending on how the final trigger is implemented. It also activates only once every four minutes, preventing it from becoming a routine answer in every encounter.

The interaction with Battle Fervor is potentially significant. Last Stand can supply the Rage required to activate an Ultimate, after which Battle Fervor can extend its duration through continued damage. A character close to defeat could therefore transition directly into a sustained offensive state.

Currency can become a defensive resource

God of Gamblers randomly multiplies the player’s Dark Tide Coins by a value between 0.1 and 50, with a maximum final balance of 100,000. The range makes the Technique deliberately volatile: it can dramatically increase a player’s funds or reduce them to a fraction of their previous value.

Currency of Survival returns as another Technique, allowing the player to spend 20,000 Dark Tide Coins when taking lethal damage. The activation negates that damage, launches nearby enemies and restores 1,000 Health.

The two Techniques form an obvious high-risk combination. A favorable God of Gamblers result can finance multiple purchases and ensure that Currency of Survival has the 20,000 coins required to prevent a death. An unfavorable roll can instead remove the resources needed for the defensive effect.

This is one of the clearest examples of The Evolution prioritizing unusual, run-specific builds over predictable competitive balance. The combination can produce an extremely powerful safety net, but it requires both Techniques and enough currency to survive the random multiplier.

It also forces players to reconsider spending decisions. Dark Tide Coins are normally an economic resource, but Currency of Survival turns 20,000 of them into an additional life. Purchasing equipment may therefore directly reduce the player’s ability to survive a lethal attack.

Wanchu’s Techniques connect combat with crafting

Several additions are specifically tied to Wanchu’s resources and map mechanics.

Seafood Bundle grants Rare Soul-Devouring Armor that will not be dropped on defeat. It also provides two Golden Flame Coralline, three Violet Coralline and four Azure Wave Coralline. These materials can be used to craft Thick Hide Armor and Habitat Armor at Wanchu’s Foundry.

The Technique offers both immediate protection and a route toward additional equipment. Its value will depend on how quickly players can reach the Foundry and whether the crafted armor supports their chosen build, but the starting resource package removes much of the normal gathering requirement.

Urchin Buffet supplies two Iron Urchins every 40 seconds. Repeated generation can provide a steady source of combat items over a longer match, although carrying capacity and the actual utility of the Urchins will determine whether the Technique remains valuable throughout the run.

Goddess’s Grace grants either Ancient Oracle·Primal Echo or Ancient Oracle·Ethereal Descent, with a small possibility of receiving both. The effect carries a 90-second cooldown, creating another renewable source of Wanchu’s map-specific powers.

One-Shot Wonder provides a Ballista combat item every 120 seconds. Since the item summons a Ballista rather than simply improving the character’s conventional attacks, it introduces a deployable threat capable of changing how a team controls open ground or approaches an objective.

Weapon-focused Techniques provide immediate direction

Phoenix Blast·Skyveil gives the player a Souljade of the same name and a Rare Longsword. Overlord·Might follows a similar structure, supplying its associated Souljade and a Rare Greatsword.

Both Techniques provide a complete starting direction rather than a general statistical effect. They equip the player with the relevant weapon and the Souljade needed to modify its attacks, reducing dependence on favorable loot.

This makes them relatively reliable early selections. A player choosing either Technique immediately knows which weapon should anchor the build and can evaluate later upgrades around that decision.

The update also consolidates several Legacy weapon Techniques. The previous Longsword, Greatsword, Dagger, Dual Blades and Katana versions are merged into a single Legacy Scroll, which grants a random weapon scroll from those five categories and increases scroll damage by 21%.

The random selection reduces control compared with choosing a specific weapon Technique. In exchange, the consolidated option creates a broader reward and prevents several closely related Techniques from occupying separate positions in the selection pool.

Ye Xiu receives two exclusive Evolution Techniques

Crossover hero Ye Xiu gains two Techniques connected to Unspecialized Blitz.

Unspecialized Blitz·Dragon Momentum restores charges of Dragon Ascends when Ye Xiu secures eliminations during his Ultimate. This creates another snowball mechanic: successful kills restore the resource needed to continue using one of the Ultimate’s important actions.

Unspecialized Blitz·Riding Momentum instead accelerates the recovery of Feint Combo Charge while the Ultimate is active. It appears designed for more consistent pressure rather than rewarding only final eliminations.

These Techniques reinforce Ye Xiu’s existing identity instead of granting effects unrelated to his kit. Their exclusivity also means they will not dilute the build options of players using other heroes.

Some of the most dramatic effects are still provisional

The update is currently represented by test-server data, and 24 Entertainment explicitly states that test adjustments are not final. Several English Technique names are also marked as literal or unofficial translations in the available patch transcription.

Balance changes are already present alongside the new content. Jabbing·Through has its damage multiplier reduced from 5.04 to 4.65, while Tempest Kick·Chill falls from 0.89 multiplied across seven hits to 0.79 across seven hits.

Guerilla and Dodge Master are removed from the Technique pool in the test build. The new Hidden Edge and Solid Fundamentals effects occupy some similar design territory, but they should not be treated as simple renames because their activation conditions and bonuses differ.

The most important variables will be the frequency with which the strongest Techniques appear and how easily players can combine them. Sustained invisibility, repeatable Ultimate extensions, held Counters and lethal-damage protection may be manageable individually but far more disruptive when assembled into a single optimized build.

The Evolution is becoming a more map-dependent mode

Adding Wanchu does more than increase environmental variety. It establishes a model in which The Evolution’s available Techniques can change according to the selected map.

The Technique Collection receives a map filter, allowing players to review which options belong to each environment. This indicates that Perdoria and Wanchu will not simply share one universal pool.

Map-specific builds can improve replayability because players must adapt to more than a random selection of Techniques. Wanchu’s water combat, Coralline materials, Foundry armor and Ancient Oracle items encourage different priorities from a Perdoria match.

The risk is that The Evolution becomes harder to understand. New players must already learn hundreds of Techniques, hero-specific effects, rarity levels and unusual combat interactions. Dividing that information across multiple maps increases the amount of preparation required.

The update attempts to mitigate that complexity through the Technique Collection and recommended sets. New accounts have also had the mode’s unlock requirement reduced to account level 8, giving players access relatively early in their progression.

Wanchu pushes The Evolution toward more extreme combat

The showcase presents an update built around escalation. Hidden Edge can reward uninterrupted pressure with repeated invisibility, Battle Fervor can extend already powerful Ultimates, Counter King makes defensive timing more flexible and Currency of Survival can convert accumulated wealth into protection against death.

These effects fit The Evolution’s roguelike identity. The mode is not intended to reproduce the controlled balance of ranked Survival matches; it is designed to let players assemble exaggerated builds during an individual run.

That does not make balance irrelevant. If a small group of Techniques becomes dramatically stronger than every alternative, meaningful build selection can disappear. A roguelike system works best when several combinations feel powerful for different reasons, rather than when every successful run depends on finding the same invisibility or survival effect.

Wanchu and the new Techniques will be tested before their live release. The final update is scheduled to launch on September 2 PT, bringing the maritime map, water-focused progression and the expanded Technique pool to The Evolution.
