NARAKA: BLADEPOINT is preparing a substantial expansion for its cooperative Showdown mode. Sandforge Season, presented as Showdown 6.0, launches on September 2 PT with Inor Wan as a new playable hero, an additional campaign chapter and boss, new Souljades, revised Potentials and several changes intended to make long-term character progression less repetitive.

The update combines conventional seasonal content with a more fundamental revision of Showdown’s supporting systems. The new boss and playable hero provide the immediate attraction, but the redesigned Recast process and more flexible Weekly Quests could have a greater effect on players who regularly invest time in improving their Souljade collections.

Detailed English launch notes were not available on the official international website at the time of writing. Some of the specific mechanics and numerical values discussed below come from translated August 28 test-server notes. Those details are provisional: terminology, balance values and even individual effects may change before Sandforge reaches the live game.

Inor Wan brings his thunder powers into Showdown

Inor Wan is the central playable addition to Showdown 6.0. Originally introduced as a Survival hero, he is known as the Thunder’s Voice and fights through a mixture of mobility, counters and lightning-enhanced attacks.

As with other characters adapted for Showdown, Inor Wan will not simply carry his competitive Survival kit into the PvE mode unchanged. NetEase has confirmed that his Showdown skills and Ultimate behave differently, allowing the developers to emphasize sustained damage, elemental interactions and boss encounters without being constrained by PvP balance.

This distinction is important. Showdown characters must confront groups of enemies and bosses with large health pools, while Survival abilities are designed around engagements against other players. Crowd control, burst damage and defensive skills consequently require different values and secondary effects when transferred between the two modes.

Inor Wan’s thunder identity makes him a natural match for Showdown’s existing elemental systems. Thunder can be integrated with Elemental Burst builds, critical effects and counter-focused Souljades rather than functioning exclusively as visual reinforcement for his standard attacks.

The test version also includes interactions specifically associated with Inor Wan. One adjustment changes the priority of the enhanced dodge available during Bolt Dash after a successful Counter. Another new Technique allows Inor Wan, Tianhai and Yueshan to continue using Counter mechanics after entering their transformed Ultimate states.

These details suggest that Showdown Inor Wan will reward players who combine aggressive transformation windows with accurate defensive timing. However, his final skill descriptions, cooldowns and optimal Souljade combinations should not be considered settled until the live patch notes are published.

A new chapter hides a serpent beneath the red sands

Sandforge adds another main campaign chapter and a new boss encounter. The official announcement describes only an enemy rising from the sands, while the translated test notes connect the battle to Liu Tianjun, an elder of the Hidden Clan, and a serpent-shaped threat formed from red sand.

The encounter appears designed to continue Showdown’s movement toward mechanically distinctive boss fights rather than relying exclusively on larger versions of ordinary enemies. Recent updates have given bosses unusual attacks, environmental mechanics and elemental vulnerabilities, requiring teams to coordinate defensive actions and adapt their builds to the encounter.

The new chapter also gives players a practical reason to engage with Sandforge’s progression changes. A new hero and additional Souljades have limited value if the surrounding content does not provide suitable challenges in which to use them. The boss therefore needs to test the season’s elemental and counter mechanics without becoming dependent on a single mandatory build.

No complete breakdown of the boss’s phases or attacks has been officially released. It is consequently too early to determine whether the fight will substantially change the Showdown endgame or primarily function as another source of seasonal equipment and upgrade materials.

Six provisional Souljades expand elemental builds

The test-server update lists six new Souljades focused on elemental critical hits, Miasma, Frostbite, Divine Thunder and a new meteor-based interaction. Their English names are direct translations and may differ in the final localization.

Provisional Souljade Test-server effect Intended build direction
Fierce Element Art Raises Elemental Critical Rate by 30% but reduces Move damage by 5% Elemental specialization at the expense of conventional weapon techniques
Venom Tempering Reduces the Miasma stacks needed to trigger an area strike by two Faster Poison activation and improved crowd clearing
Elemental Burst Starfall Elemental critical hits summon a Meteor Strike and leave a Meteor that can trigger a Star Burst Creates a new elemental critical-hit damage cycle
Ice Ring Break Filling an enemy’s Frostbite gauge triggers an additional Ice Ring attack Rewards repeated Frostbite application
Roaming Thunder Counter Divine Thunder can be Countered and reflected along a straight path, hitting on the outward and return journey Adds timing and positioning to Thunder-focused combat
Starcrusher Force Triggering a Star Burst increases Attack by 20% for 15 seconds Converts the meteor mechanic into a temporary damage window

The most elaborate addition is Elemental Burst Starfall. According to the test notes, an elemental critical hit calls down a Meteor Strike and leaves a Meteor at the impact point. Striking that Meteor with another elemental attack produces a Star Burst, after which Starcrusher Force can activate its temporary Attack bonus.

This creates a multi-stage damage engine rather than a passive numerical increase. Players must first generate an elemental critical hit, then connect another elemental attack with the resulting object and finally exploit the damage window. If the live version preserves that structure, positioning and attack order will matter as much as the underlying statistics.

Roaming Thunder Counter follows a similarly interactive philosophy. Instead of simply increasing Thunder damage, it allows Divine Thunder to be reflected through a Counter. The test version reduces the reflected attack’s damage by 50%, but sends it forward and back along the same line. Against groups or large bosses, a carefully positioned reflection could potentially strike more than once.

Fierce Element Art presents a more conventional trade-off. Its additional elemental critical chance is accompanied by a reduction to Move damage, discouraging players from treating it as an automatic improvement for every build. Whether the penalty is meaningful will depend on how frequently a particular hero relies on weapon techniques compared with elemental effects.

The common theme is specialization. Sandforge appears to be encouraging players to construct builds around specific activation chains rather than equip whichever Souljades provide the largest independent damage bonuses.

Potentials are being adjusted around the new elemental options

The Potential system will also receive new effects and balance changes. NetEase has not yet published a complete official English tree, but the new nodes are expected to support the Souljades introduced with the season and provide additional routes for existing heroes.

Potentials determine a significant part of Showdown’s build identity. Their value does not come only from individual bonuses, but from how those bonuses interact with a hero’s abilities, equipped Souljades and chosen elemental specialization.

The challenge for Sandforge is avoiding the creation of one obviously superior route. Meteor and Star Burst builds may be mechanically interesting, but build diversity will remain limited if their damage is high enough to invalidate Poison, Frostbite, weapon-Move or transformation-based alternatives.

The developers previously acknowledged that Move Souljades had not produced as much variety as intended. Their May Showdown roadmap promised additional Souljades, Potential updates and balance passes intended to improve strategic depth. Sandforge represents the first major opportunity to assess whether that work has produced genuinely competitive alternatives or merely another temporary seasonal meta.

Recasting is being redesigned to reduce inventory management

The Recast overhaul may be Sandforge’s most consequential change for established Showdown players.

Under the test-server system, every Attribute Recast or Value Recast grants one Aura Point. Accumulating 120 Aura Points allows the player to claim a Flux Jade. The interface displays this progress directly, and points can continue accumulating beyond the threshold before rewards are collected.

Any existing progress toward the previous rare-attribute guarantee is expected to convert into Aura Points at a one-to-one rate. If that conversion reaches the live game unchanged, players should not lose the progress already accumulated through earlier recasts.

A second option, provisionally translated as Jade Bloom Recast, uses a new Jade Bloom Crystal to make a much larger improvement to a Souljade’s attribute value. The beta notes describe one Crystal as providing approximately the same improvement as 40 ordinary Value Recasts. Any amount exceeding the attribute cap is returned proportionally through materials.

Using a Jade Bloom Crystal on a rare attribute reportedly raises that value directly to its maximum. The Crystals can be earned from Showdown stages that consume Fatigue and through Weekly Quests.

This system targets two persistent friction points: performing large numbers of individual recasts and storing excessive quantities of Souljades for future upgrades. The developers explicitly state that they want players to spend less time examining every item after a match and less inventory space preserving potential recast material.

There is nevertheless a trade-off. The test build prevents Attribute Recast from generating rare attributes, while newly dropped or imbued attributes are set between 50% and 60% of their maximum value. That makes exceptional random drops less likely and shifts more of the optimization process toward structured Recast resources.

For some players, this will be an improvement because progression becomes more predictable. For others, it may make the system feel more dependent on accumulating specific currencies. The quality of the change will depend on how frequently Jade Bloom Crystals and Flux Jades are awarded in the live economy.

Weekly Quests become more flexible

Sandforge is also revising the Weekly Quest structure. Instead of requiring every listed objective, completed quests provide Activeness. Reaching the necessary Activeness threshold unlocks the full weekly reward allocation.

This should allow players to avoid objectives that do not fit their preferred heroes, available playtime or progression goals. Removing the requirement to complete every quest is a practical quality-of-life improvement, especially in a mode with several different stages and build systems competing for attention.

Normal Doom stages and their associated Weekly Quests are being removed, with their rewards incorporated into the current reward structure. Weekly progression will also contribute toward a Legend Jade, with the test notes indicating that four completed weeks award one.

Legend Jades are particularly valuable because they offer more control over rare Souljade attributes. Adding a visible monthly route to one of these resources should provide a clearer progression target than relying primarily on random acquisition.

The Season Start quest line is being updated as well. Players who complete Showdown stages across seven days during the initial event window can earn a seasonal gift containing a Souljade Choice Gift and a Legend Jade. Final reward contents and availability should still be checked after the live update.

Nirriti’s Ruins and Yama’s Abyss will reset

The arrival of Sandforge resets progress and seasonal rewards for Nirriti’s Ruins, Yama’s Abyss and the broader Season Challenge. Saved Nirriti’s Ruins runs are also expected to be cleared.

This reset is consistent with previous Showdown seasons, which regularly refresh rankings, challenge rewards and progression targets. It gives returning players a new ladder to climb, but anyone holding an unfinished seasonal objective should be aware that it will not simply remain available after the transition.

Nirriti’s Ruins and Yama’s Abyss serve different parts of the Showdown endgame. Yama’s Abyss operates as a stage-advancing solo challenge, while Nirriti’s Ruins supports difficulty progression and saved Anima Ring configurations for its Innerworld content.

Refreshing both modes ensures that the new Souljades and Potentials can be evaluated within a new seasonal environment. It also means that players will need to reconstruct some of the temporary progression and saved configurations developed during the preceding season.

Sandforge begins a more predictable Showdown schedule

The September update also marks the implementation of a standardized six-month seasonal structure.

NetEase announced the change after acknowledging that previous Showdown seasons had inconsistent lengths and an uneven content cadence. Longer seasons created additional development time, but also left players waiting for resets and substantial progression updates without a reliable schedule.

Under the revised model, the first half of a season is expected to introduce a new hero, Souljades, Potential updates, campaign stages, bosses and returning challenge modes. The second half is intended to focus on another hero where applicable, new Curios, Move Souljades and balance changes, alongside additional modes and higher-difficulty challenges.

Sandforge’s announced content closely follows that first-half template. Inor Wan, the new boss, elemental Souljades and progression revisions establish the season’s foundation, while later updates are expected to expand and rebalance it.

A six-month cadence is not automatically an improvement. The schedule will only succeed if meaningful updates arrive throughout that period and the progression economy avoids becoming excessively repetitive. However, a published structure gives players a clearer understanding of when resets and major additions are likely to occur.

The progression changes may matter more than the new boss

Sandforge is being marketed around thunder, red sands and another major enemy, but its long-term impact will probably be decided through less cinematic systems.

Inor Wan and the new chapter give players an immediate reason to return. The elemental Souljades offer new builds to test. The Recast changes, flexible Weekly Quests and scheduled Legend Jade progression determine whether those builds remain enjoyable to develop after the novelty of the new boss has passed.

The direction is sensible: reduce unnecessary item management, make upgrades more predictable and allow players to complete weekly progression without following one rigid checklist. The remaining uncertainty concerns resource rates and balance. A streamlined system can still feel restrictive if its most important materials are too scarce, while diverse-looking Souljades will not create genuine variety if one elemental combination clearly outperforms everything else.

Sandforge Season launches for NARAKA: BLADEPOINT on September 2 PT. Players should consult the final live patch notes before dismantling existing Souljades or committing valuable Recast materials, as the currently available test-server values remain subject to adjustment.
