NARAKA: BLADEPOINT transforms Akos Hu into the Great Sage with the new Tome of Journey collection

NARAKA: BLADEPOINT is returning to one of the most recognizable figures in Chinese mythology with a new interpretation of the Great Sage.

Akos Hu’s Tome of Journey·Great Sage collection is now available following the August 13, 2026 update, transforming the ferocious Rebel Claw into a warrior inspired by Sun Wukong and the mythology of Journey to the West.

The new collection goes considerably further than a conventional Legendary Outfit.

Players can combine the Tome of Journey·Great Sage costume with the returning Journey of Blades·Great Sage hairstyle and the new Phoenix-Feather Cap, while a separate Equal to Heaven pack changes the visual presentation of both Akos Hu’s Feral Frenzy Ultimate and Roar Skill.

Additional cosmetics expand the theme through a Staff Sweep Pose, Heavenstride Background and Flaming Depths Base.

The result is effectively a complete Great Sage presentation for Akos Hu, covering his character model, profile cosmetics and two of the abilities most strongly associated with his aggressive playstyle.

The collection also reconnects NARAKA with a mythology it explored extensively during 2023. That earlier Journey of Blades series introduced interpretations of Wukong, Yang Jian, the Spider Demoness, Wujing and other figures associated with the classic Chinese novel.

Tome of Journey revisits that material with a new visual direction.

And Akos Hu is an obvious choice to carry it.

Akos Hu becomes the Great Sage

The centerpiece is the Legendary Outfit Tome of Journey·Great Sage.

Its concept draws on the unmistakable image of Sun Wukong: regal armour, supernatural confidence and the visual authority of a warrior who considers Heaven itself a legitimate opponent.

That connection is reinforced directly by the naming surrounding the collection.

One Akos Hu bundle is called Great Sage·Akos Hu.

The second is called Equal to Heaven·Akos Hu, echoing the Great Sage Equal to Heaven identity traditionally associated with Sun Wukong.

This is not the first time NARAKA has placed Akos Hu in that role.

The 2023 Journey of Blades series already included the Legendary Journey of Blades·Wukong Outfit and Journey of Blades·Great Sage hairstyle.

The 2026 collection therefore feels less like an unrelated reinterpretation and more like a return to an established parallel between Akos and the Monkey King.

The choice of Akos Hu fits more than his appearance

Akos Hu already shares several characteristics with the Great Sage before any cosmetic is equipped.

He is rebellious, physically explosive and deeply uncomfortable with authority.

NARAKA describes Akos as someone born free and raised by tigers. He briefly served in the military before abandoning it and turning against the injustices of the Empire.

That temperament makes him an unusually natural host for Wukong imagery.

Sun Wukong is similarly defined by refusal to accept imposed limitations. His mythology repeatedly places him in conflict with celestial authorities, established hierarchies and anyone attempting to control him.

The Tome of Journey design is therefore doing more than dressing Akos in famous mythological clothing.

It amplifies personality traits already present in the character.

Tome of Journey continues NARAKA’s long relationship with Journey to the West

NARAKA officially described its earlier 2023 collections as interpretations of the classic Chinese mythological novel Journey to the West.

The series spread those references across numerous heroes and weapons.

Akos Hu represented Wukong.

Yueshan appeared as Yang Jian.

Tianhai received Wujing-inspired material.

Viper Ning became the Spider Demoness.

Feria Shen participated through another Journey of Blades design, while weapons such as the Golden-Hooped Rod pushed the theme beyond character costumes.

Tome of Journey continues that creative direction in 2026.

The name has changed, and the visual interpretations are new, but the underlying idea remains the same: take recognizable figures from one of China’s foundational fantasy stories and reinterpret them through NARAKA’s heroes.

Akos Hu’s Great Sage is the most immediately recognizable example.

The new outfit is different from 2023’s Wukong costume

Players who already own Akos Hu’s older Journey of Blades·Wukong Outfit should not confuse it with the new release.

Tome of Journey·Great Sage is a separate Legendary Outfit.

The earlier Wukong design belongs to the 2023 Journey of Blades collection.

The new Great Sage Outfit belongs to Tome of Journey and is being sold through the current August 2026 Store rotation.

That distinction gives longtime Akos players two different interpretations of the same mythological inspiration.

Rather than simply returning the original costume to the Store and presenting it as new content, NetEase has created another visual treatment around the Great Sage concept.

The older hairstyle, however, does return.

The Phoenix-Feather Cap pushes Akos away from his normal rebellious fighter appearance and toward a more ceremonial warrior identity.

The current availability period runs from August 13 until September 16, 2026 at 23:00 UTC.

That deadline applies to the pack and its newly introduced items.

Equal to Heaven changes Akos Hu’s actual ability presentation

The more mechanically interesting cosmetic bundle is Equal to Heaven·Akos Hu.

It contains two Legendary ability accessories:

Tome of Journey·Immortal Peach changes the appearance of Akos Hu’s Ultimate, Feral Frenzy.

Tome of Journey·Divine Nectar changes the appearance of his Skill, Roar.

These are not ordinary accessories visible only on the character model.

They modify the visual presentation of abilities during gameplay.

The pairing reinforces the collection’s Journey to the West foundation.

Akos represents the rebellious Great Sage.

Tianhai’s Golden Cicada imagery connects him to a different spiritual dimension of the story.

Using multiple heroes allows NetEase to avoid reducing Journey to the West to Sun Wukong alone.

Wukong may be the most internationally recognizable figure, but the novel’s pilgrimage depends on an ensemble of characters with very different personalities and spiritual roles.

The 2026 series builds on a concept NARAKA established three years earlier

During the 2023 Reckoning season, NetEase explicitly described its Journey-themed cosmetics as reinterpretations of Journey to the West.

The company said it wanted to approach the classic stories and characters with fresh styles and new perspectives.

Tome of Journey demonstrates that the idea was not discarded after one seasonal collection.

Three years later, the mythology remains useful enough to support another premium series.

The most interesting part of the new collection is how it evolves an existing association.

In 2023, Akos Hu was explicitly Wukong.

In 2026, the emphasis moves toward the Great Sage.

The difference may appear semantic, but it changes the presentation.

Wukong identifies the character.

Great Sage emphasizes the title, authority and legendary reputation he eventually claims.

The new costume is consequently presented with more commanding, regal imagery.

It is less about showing Akos Hu dressed as a recognizable monkey hero and more about presenting him as a warrior powerful enough to carry the Great Sage’s mythic authority.

NARAKA contains a huge number of elaborate crossover and mythological cosmetics, but the strongest designs are usually those that preserve something fundamental about the original hero.
