Overwatch delves into Moira's past, reopening one of the game universe's most controversial experiments

The history of Overwatch once again turns its gaze toward one of its most ambiguous and morally questionable characters. Blizzard has presented “Progress,” a new short story centered on Moira O'Deorain, exploring how the scientist resumes development of the Soldier Enhancement Serum following the events at Watchpoint: Grand Mesa.

And looking at the premise, it feels less like a story about scientific breakthroughs and more like a reflection on obsession, power, and ethical boundaries.

The narrative kicks off after the coup executed by Talon, when Vendetta orders Moira to perfect the original serum formula for use on herself and her gladiators. This detail is crucial because it connects directly to one of the most influential experiments in Overwatch lore: the genetic treatment responsible for the superhuman capabilities of Soldier: 76 and Reaper.

In other words, Blizzard is returning to one of the darkest origins of the game's narrative universe.
