Something unusual is happening on Erangel, and PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS is turning the mystery into its latest teaser. Published through the game’s official channels on September 1, the “Erangel Anomaly Report” warns of unexplained disturbances across the island and identifies cursed care packages as the central discovery. The message ends with an investigation underway and further information promised, leaving the nature of the threat unresolved. Official announcement.
The premise puts an unsettling twist on a familiar part of PUBG. A care package normally gives players a reason to move, compete for supplies and expose themselves to enemy fire. Describing one as cursed introduces a different question: what, exactly, are players being invited to approach?
There is also a noteworthy clue pointing toward Jujutsu Kaisen. Although the announcement’s wording does not name a collaboration, the official promotional upload contains a reference to the anime—giving this otherwise cryptic warning a more specific possible direction.
A Jujutsu Kaisen Connection Hiding in Plain Sight
The strongest clue is attached to PUBG’s own Facebook publication. Its public video address includes the wording “jujutsu-kaisen-main-teasing,” despite the accompanying announcement retaining the more mysterious Erangel Anomaly Report title. That reference suggests a connection to Jujutsu Kaisen, rather than speculation based solely on the use of the word “cursed.” Official Facebook upload.
It is a meaningful promotional clue, but it is not a complete event announcement. The published description does not identify participating characters, explain any crossover mechanics or provide a release schedule. Accordingly, a possible Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration is the supported interpretation—not confirmation of particular skins, abilities or game modes.
That distinction leaves plenty for a subsequent reveal to establish. A collaboration could be represented through character cosmetics, environmental changes or playable features, and the teaser does not yet tell players which of those approaches applies.
Why Care Packages Make an Effective Warning Sign
The announcement’s focus on care packages gives the mystery an immediate connection to ordinary PUBG decision-making. Approaching a drop is already a calculated risk: players must consider their equipment, nearby opponents, available cover and whether a detour is worth the exposure.
From a design perspective, placing the unknown inside that familiar situation is an effective setup. It does not require a new location to make the battlefield feel different. Instead, it invites players to reconsider an object whose purpose they normally understand.
However, “cursed” remains a description, not an explained gameplay rule. There is no published basis here for claiming that opening these packages causes damage, summons enemies, grants supernatural powers or awards exclusive equipment.
PUBG has previously used care packages as part of collaboration-themed presentation. The official Update 37.2 notes, published in September 2025, documented G-DRAGON-themed care packages alongside other environmental decorations. That precedent shows why a themed package does not, by itself, establish a new combat mechanic. Update 37.2 patch notes.
PUBG and Jujutsu Kaisen Have Met Before—on Mobile
There is an established history between Jujutsu Kaisen and the wider PUBG franchise, but the distinction between games matters.
PUBG MOBILE hosted a Jujutsu Kaisen collaboration in 2022. Its official introduction described themed versions of Erangel and Livik, appearances by characters including Yuji Itadori and Satoru Gojo on Spawn Island, and limited-time character-inspired outfits. Players could also select non-themed versions of the maps during that event. PUBG MOBILE’s original collaboration announcement.
That earlier release provides relevant background for the new clue. It establishes that the two properties have previously worked together and that Erangel has already served as a setting for the anime’s world.
It does not establish what this BATTLEGROUNDS teaser will deliver. The 2022 mobile event’s characters, rules and availability cannot be carried across as details of a new PC-and-console announcement. For players remembering the previous crossover, the important point is that this is a fresh promotional tease from PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, not an announcement that the old mobile event has simply returned.
Erangel’s Familiarity Gives the Mystery Weight
Erangel is a particularly recognizable setting for this kind of disruption. PUBG’s official map guide describes an 8×8-kilometre island encompassing grasslands, mountains, towns and cities. Within the game’s fiction, it is also the location of the first official Battlegrounds. Official Erangel guide.
That identity gives an anomaly report a useful foundation. The setting does not need much introduction; the intrigue comes from something behaving differently within it. For experienced players, an unusual object on familiar ground can stand out more sharply than another feature on a completely new map.
The island has also continued to receive gameplay changes. Update 41.1 introduced destructible terrain to Erangel in April 2026, allowing explosives and the Pickaxe to reshape parts of the ground. The developers explicitly distinguished this from Sanhok’s building destruction. Update 41.1 patch notes.
Those changes are separate from the current teaser. They provide context for Erangel’s ongoing development, not evidence that the disturbances involve terrain destruction or another map-wide overhaul.
The Next Report Needs to Explain the Rules
The central unanswered question is whether the cursed packages are primarily part of the presentation or something players will interact with under special rules. A fuller announcement would also need to establish affected modes, platform schedules, event duration and any associated rewards.
The teaser provides none of those details, and its promise of another notice does not specify when that notice will arrive. Likewise, its in-world report that packages have been discovered should not be treated as a service announcement confirming that a playable event is already available.
For now, PUBG has established a clear mystery and left a credible clue about its possible source. Erangel is under investigation, the care packages are suspect, and a Jujutsu Kaisen connection looks plausible. What happens when players approach those packages remains the part worth watching for in the next official reveal.
