Solo Leveling: ARISE is preparing to push its Hunters into the next stage of progression. Netmarble has released a new teaser for the game’s upcoming 2.5 Anniversary update, introducing “PHASE 2 — Beyond the Limits, The Start of a New Battle” and confirming October 22 as the date players should have marked on their calendars.

The teaser is deliberately brief, but it arrives at an important moment. Netmarble has already outlined a substantial roadmap leading into the anniversary, and the October update is positioned as more than another conventional content drop. The developer has been discussing broader changes to progression, competitive systems, endgame activities and guilds, alongside new battle modes designed to break away from some of ARISE’s established structures.

That makes “Beyond the Limits” an appropriate message. The next phase is being built around giving highly developed rosters more meaningful challenges while providing clearer reasons for players to continue increasing their Total Power.

October 22 Begins the Next Major Phase of ARISE

The October 22 date is consistent with Netmarble’s existing update schedule. Several current systems and events are already scheduled to conclude when maintenance begins that day, clearing the way for the 2.5 Anniversary period.

Most notably, Special Commission will be discontinued with the October 22 update. Netmarble has confirmed that its menu and associated features will be removed, with unclaimed Essence Stones and Draw Tickets from completed commissions sent to players through the mailbox.

It will not simply disappear without a replacement. A new Seasonal Card Collection, currently a working title, is being prepared as its successor.

Instead of completing Special Commissions, players will obtain card packs during each season and work toward completing designated collections. Duplicate cards are planned to convert into a dedicated currency that can be used to acquire higher-grade packs, while collection milestones can provide rewards including Rate Up Draw Tickets, Essence Stones and Dungeon Entry Keys.

The intention is to turn a recurring progression task into something more visibly collection-driven, rewarding consistent participation rather than simply replacing one checklist with another.

Four Hunters Will Fight Together in the Deep Containment Zone

One of the most substantial additions already confirmed for October is the Deep Containment Zone, a new battle mode built around four-Hunter teams.

That alone represents a significant departure from the traditional three-Hunter structure that has defined much of Solo Leveling: ARISE. All four Hunters will participate in combat, opening the door to compositions that combine Strikers, Breakers, Supporters, Stackers and Busters in ways that existing activities cannot fully accommodate.

Netmarble has also revealed that familiar enemies will return as special “Subjects” inside the mode. Igris and Kargalgan are scheduled to appear in new forms when the Deep Containment Zone makes its initial debut in October.

The mode is being developed alongside another new mechanic provisionally called Union. This system allows Hunters sharing the same element to combine their abilities for powerful elemental attacks, with additional effects determined by the classes participating in the formation.

That changes the emphasis from building around one overwhelming damage dealer toward finding value across the entire squad. Netmarble has specifically described the mode as one in which all four Hunters should contribute through their respective roles.

If that philosophy survives intact into the final release, Deep Containment Zone could become an important testing ground for characters that have previously struggled to justify a place in conventional three-Hunter compositions.

An Infinite Boss Challenge Will Test How Far Players Can Push

The anniversary will also introduce a very different kind of endurance test.

Netmarble is developing the Infinite Relay Boss Challenge, another working title, in which players will battle a continuous sequence of bosses taken from across the Solo Leveling universe.

Rather than defeating one boss and finishing the encounter, the objective is to keep progressing through a succession of enemies. Every boss defeated adds time to the remaining clock, allowing stronger teams to continue deeper into the challenge.

Rewards will be attached to progression milestones, with additional rewards planned at specific threshold stages.

Importantly, players will not necessarily have to wait for the mode’s final implementation. Netmarble says an early version will be pre-released as a special event during the 2.5 Anniversary update.

For veteran players, the structure addresses one of the central issues Netmarble has acknowledged in recent developer communications: increasing a roster’s power has not always been matched by enough content capable of demonstrating how much stronger that account has actually become.

A boss relay provides a straightforward answer. Instead of asking whether a player can clear a single predefined encounter, it can measure how long that roster continues surviving as the challenge progresses.

Total Power Is Becoming More Important Again

The anniversary roadmap is also closely connected to Netmarble’s attempt to restore meaning to Total Power.

The developer acknowledged player feedback that recommended power values had become unreliable as practical indicators of difficulty. Players could sometimes exceed a stage’s recommendation while still finding the encounter unexpectedly demanding, reducing the sense that upgrading an account produced a tangible benefit.

The September update began addressing that problem.

Content now provides progressively larger advantages when players exceed the Recommended Total Power and clearer penalties when they fall significantly below it. The interface represents that difference through multiple blue and red tiers, making the relationship between the player's strength and the content requirement more visible.

Netmarble intends to build further on that foundation around the anniversary by restructuring how progression, rewards and rankings interact.

The broader objective is relatively clear: Total Power should function as more than a large account statistic. Players who spend considerable time developing Hunters, weapons, Artifacts, Cores and other progression systems should be able to feel that investment when confronting difficult content.

The newly expanded endgame supports that approach. September already introduced additional progression ceilings, including higher Battlefield of Trials floors, expanded Core levels, further Armory pages and new difficulty tiers across several activities. Inven also reports that Netmarble views the coming 2.5 Anniversary as the next stage of that wider progression overhaul.

Guilds Are Getting Their First Major Anniversary Overhaul

Solo players will not be the only focus.

Netmarble plans to begin the first phase of a Guild system revamp in October, addressing a feature the studio admits currently offers relatively few meaningful reasons for players to feel attached to their guild beyond Guild Boss activities and the Exchange Shop.

Among the first changes will be new rewards tied to the number of guild members checking in each day.

Guild Buffs are also being redesigned. Rather than functioning primarily as something configured at guild level, Netmarble intends for the new buffs to scale according to individual progression and player setups. Simply belonging to a guild should therefore provide a noticeable Total Power benefit.

Management is also receiving attention. Guild leveling requirements are planned to decrease, while integrated Discord links will make it easier for communities to organize outside the game.

This is only the opening stage. Additional improvements are scheduled progressively through December, including new cooperative guild content, an updated Guild Exchange Shop and a Tutorial Guild system aimed at helping newer Hunters find their footing.

The 2.5 Anniversary therefore appears to be the beginning of the guild restructuring rather than its conclusion.

The Anniversary Follows a Major Expansion of the Endgame

“Beyond the Limits” also follows an unusually active period for Solo Leveling: ARISE.

August introduced Lee Joohee, Pilgrim of the Labyrinth, as a Light-element Buster, together with additional story difficulties, a new Sung Jinwoo weapon and further Simulation Gate challenges.

September then brought Diana Lopez, the game’s first Wind Buster, alongside Adan, the Monarch of Fangs and another expansion of high-level progression. Diana uses heavy weaponry and a Lock-On mechanic designed around marking opponents and delivering powerful follow-up attacks, while Adan changes forms throughout his encounter and introduces several mechanics that require carefully timed responses.

These updates provide the mechanical groundwork for what comes next. Larger rosters, higher progression ceilings and increasingly specialized classes make more sense when the game provides modes capable of exploiting that additional complexity.

Deep Containment Zone is particularly important in that respect because expanding the team from three to four creates another variable for team-building without simply raising enemy health or increasing numerical difficulty.

“Beyond the Limits” Is About More Than Another Anniversary Banner

Netmarble has not yet revealed every detail associated with the October 22 update, and several announced features remain under development or carry working titles. The exact anniversary events, rewards and any additional playable characters connected to the celebration will therefore require further announcements.

What is already confirmed, however, establishes the scale of the update.

The 2.5 Anniversary is being used to introduce an early version of the Infinite Relay Boss Challenge, launch the four-Hunter Deep Containment Zone, begin restructuring guilds, replace Special Commission with a seasonal collection system and continue the larger effort to make progression and Total Power more meaningful.

That gives the phrase “Beyond the Limits” considerably more weight than a typical teaser slogan.

Solo Leveling: ARISE has always been built around Sung Jinwoo becoming progressively stronger. On October 22, Netmarble appears ready to ask the same question of its players: after spending more than two years building Hunters, weapons and teams, how far can those accounts actually go?
