Capcom has fully revealed Arjun, the second downloadable fighter included in Street Fighter 6’s Year 4 roster. The imposing newcomer will enter the fight on October 13, combining extraordinary lung capacity, yogic breathing and overwhelming physical strength in a moveset built around pressure, traps and recoverable damage.
Described as a slower powerhouse, Arjun is not designed to overwhelm opponents through rapid movement. Instead, he gradually compromises their vitality while forcing them to navigate projectiles, delayed attacks and threatening close-range options. Many of his special moves inflict recoverable damage even when blocked, allowing him to turn apparently successful defense into a dangerous situation.
Arjun can be purchased individually with Fighter Coins. Players who own the Year 4 Character Pass or Year 4 Ultimate Pass will receive access automatically when he becomes available.
A Fugitive Fighter Searching for Justice
Arjun is one of the completely original characters introduced during Street Fighter 6’s fourth year. Before becoming a fugitive, he served as a police officer in India alongside a partner he trusted completely. That partner was eventually murdered, with Arjun framed for the crime.
Now living on the run, he is attempting to uncover the truth behind the killing and identify the person responsible. Capcom connects this search for justice directly to his fighting philosophy: every breath is treated as a source of strength, and only his final breath will stop him from pursuing his objective.
His martial art is officially described as Bare-knuckle Yoga. The style combines his enormous physique with controlled breathing techniques capable of producing bursts of air, reinforcing his muscles and even disturbing the ground beneath his opponents.
Although Arjun shares the broader concept of Yoga techniques with Dhalsim, their approaches are markedly different. Dhalsim traditionally controls distance with stretched limbs, teleports and fire projectiles. Arjun instead fights like a heavily armoured brawler, advancing behind powerful strikes and creating situations in which blocking only postpones the damage.
Recoverable Damage Is the Core of Arjun’s Strategy
Arjun’s most distinctive mechanic revolves around recoverable damage, commonly called gray life by fighting-game players. This portion of a character’s vitality can regenerate if the fighter avoids further punishment, but a subsequent clean hit can erase the accumulated damage before it has time to recover.
Several of Arjun’s special moves add recoverable damage even when the opponent blocks. Consequently, defending against him does not always end the threat. An opponent may successfully stop several attacks but still find a significant part of their vitality exposed if Arjun lands his next opening.
This creates a two-stage strategy. Arjun first builds recoverable damage through safe pressure, projectiles, traps or defensive counters. He then looks for one decisive hit capable of converting that temporary damage into a genuine loss of health.
The mechanic should make his pressure psychologically demanding. Opponents must decide whether to remain patient and risk accumulating more gray life or challenge Arjun and potentially run directly into one of his slower but considerably more damaging attacks.
His lack of speed is intended to balance that threat. Arjun must still earn the correct position, manage the distance and anticipate defensive reactions. If faster characters can escape before he establishes his offense, his theoretical damage becomes far less meaningful.
Arm of Justice and Cruel Shoulder Keep Him Advancing
Arm of Justice is a winding punch with properties that change according to the attack strength used. The light and medium versions are safe when blocked, while the heavier version gives Arjun frame advantage and allows him to continue applying pressure.
The attack also has an optional follow-up that can leave him in an advantageous position. Its Overdrive version starts more quickly and remains plus on block, offering a more immediate way to force the opponent into another decision. Arm of Justice also inflicts recoverable damage against a blocking target.
Cruel Shoulder gives Arjun a more direct method of closing space. It is a lunging shoulder tackle whose safety and startup vary between the light, medium and heavy versions. The lighter alternatives are unsafe when blocked, preventing Arjun from advancing without consequence, while the slower heavy version provides frame advantage.
Its Overdrive form preserves the useful properties of the heavy version but reaches the opponent more quickly. Cruel Shoulder is therefore both a commitment and an important part of Arjun’s larger trap system, especially once he has placed a Divine Pillar on the battlefield.
Breathing Ring and Divine Pillar Turn the Arena Into a Trap
Despite his enormous frame and emphasis on close-range power, Arjun is not restricted to conventional brawling. Breathing Ring creates a concentrated ring of air that can be converted into Breathing Shockwave, sending a projectile towards the opponent.
Different buttons alter the projectile’s angle, giving Arjun several ways to contest movement rather than covering only a single horizontal path. The Overdrive version travels faster, remains active for longer and strikes multiple times. Blocking it still produces recoverable damage, supporting his broader strategy even when the projectile does not connect cleanly.
Divine Pillar provides his more elaborate form of space control. Arjun blows towards the ground with enough force to raise an earthen spire at a selected distance. The attack button determines where the pillar appears, while holding the input delays its activation.
This delay introduces a trap-based element to his game. Arjun can place the threat in advance, pressure an opponent as they recover from a knockdown or discourage them from occupying a specific area. Only one pillar can exist at a time, and the structure disappears if Arjun is hit, giving opponents a clear way to interrupt his setup.
The pillar also interacts with Cruel Shoulder. If Arjun contacts an active Divine Pillar while performing the tackle, he activates Justice Beyond, grabs the structure and swings it towards the opponent regardless of which side they occupy. This interaction transforms the environmental trap into a second attack and makes its placement relevant even when the initial eruption misses.
Ghastly Interrogation Punishes Passive Defense
Ghastly Interrogation is Arjun’s command throw and another important part of his recoverable-damage game plan. When used against an opponent without existing gray life, the grab deals only recoverable damage. Against a target already carrying recoverable damage, however, it can inflict normal damage.
That distinction encourages Arjun players to prepare the opponent before attempting the throw. A series of blocked specials can build the necessary gray vitality, after which Ghastly Interrogation becomes a considerably more serious threat.
The grab also prevents opponents from treating blocking as a complete solution to his pressure. Once Arjun reaches close range with frame advantage, defenders must consider both his strikes and the possibility of being caught by the command throw.
The Overdrive version takes a step forward before attempting the grab, extending its practical reach. Whether that additional movement is worth the Drive Gauge expenditure will depend on the situation, but it should make the throw more difficult to avoid through simple spacing.
Indomitable Defense Turns Attacks Into Counterattacks
Arjun can also use his breathing to reinforce his body through Indomitable Defense. While the technique is active, he can move backwards or forwards and respond to incoming melee attacks with a counterattack that deals recoverable damage.
The stance can absorb projectiles as well, although projectile contact does not trigger the same automatic counterattack. This gives Arjun another method of resisting ranged pressure without converting every successful read into immediate offense.
While maintaining Indomitable Defense, he can transition into Moral Breakdown, a two-fisted attack that is advantageous on block. The move deals recoverable damage against a defending opponent and normal damage when it connects directly.
Together, the stance and follow-up create another decision-making layer. Attacking Arjun carelessly can activate his counter, but hesitating may allow him to move into position and initiate Moral Breakdown. Throws and other responses are likely to become important counters, although the final competitive assessment will depend on recovery frames and the stance’s precise vulnerabilities.
Three Super Arts Complete Arjun’s Arsenal
Howling Destruction is Arjun’s Level 1 Super Art. It unleashes rapid bursts of his breathing technique, carries invincibility during startup and can intercept airborne opponents. That combination gives him a potential defensive reversal and a method of punishing unsafe aerial approaches.
His Level 2 Super Art, Instant Oblivion, launches the opponent high into the air and sends them across the stage. More importantly, the resulting distance gives Arjun an opportunity to establish a Divine Pillar, potentially turning the Super Art’s conclusion into the beginning of another pressure sequence.
Yaksha’s Order serves as his Level 3 Super Art. Arjun disrupts the opponent’s inner ear before delivering a cinematic finishing assault. Capcom has not yet published the complete damage and frame information, so its exact place in optimized combos and comeback situations will need to be established after release.
Outfits, Character Passes and the Year 4 Roster
Arjun’s default Outfit 1 depicts him during his time as a fugitive, reflecting the darker circumstances surrounding his search for justice. Outfit 2 presents a more idealized version of the character who has moved beyond that pursuit.
The second costume can be unlocked by filling Arjun’s Acquisition Gauge in Avatar Arcade mode or purchased with Fighter Coins. Additional Outfit 1 colours are included for owners of the Year 4 Character Pass.
Arjun follows Yasmine as the second fighter in Street Fighter 6’s Year 4 lineup. The remaining announced characters are Tifa from the Final Fantasy VII Remake series and Bosch, one of the central figures in Street Fighter 6’s World Tour storyline. Tifa is scheduled for early 2027, with Bosch expected in spring 2027.
Street Fighter 6 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Arjun joins the roster across supported platforms on October 13.
