The First Descendant continues to adjust its course for Season 3, and the upcoming May 21 update is shaping up to be one of the most content-heavy and improvement-packed patches since the Season 3 launch. Nexon shared a recap of their latest dev stream focused on Episode 4, revealing new activities, powered-up characters, and several changes aimed at one of the community's most debated topics: progression pacing and the grind.
The major addition will be Ultimate Esimo, a new, enhanced version of the character that arrives with advanced gear and a design aimed at expanding options within the current meta. As with other Ultimate Descendants, his release will likely trigger new builds, extreme optimization, and adjustments to high-level team compositions.
But perhaps the most eye-catching content is Onslaught Mode.
While full details are still under wraps, Nexon is presenting it as one of the pillars of the update. Everything points to an activity designed to offer more intense, highly replayable encounters, likely geared toward the endgame and earning high-tier rewards.
The need to add modes capable of sustaining long play sessions is particularly important for The First Descendant, a game that heavily relies on the loop of combat, resource gathering, and continuous gear optimization.
And that is precisely where another key change comes in.
The studio confirmed modifications to the farming systems, a decision that directly responds to recurring player feedback regarding drop rates and progression pacing. Although not every single adjustment has been detailed, the goal seems clear: reduce friction and make the search for materials and gear more efficient.
That point could ultimately end up being more important than any new character.
In games centered around loot and repetitive activities, minor tweaks to progression usually have a massive impact on community retention and satisfaction.
The update also incorporates buffs for Valby, expanding or adjusting the character's abilities. Partial ability reworks usually generate a lot of interest because they can bring less-utilized Descendants back into the spotlight or shake up existing competitive setups.
Additionally, the patch will introduce:
- New weapons
- Additional gear
- Battle Pass content
- Events with expanded rewards
- Quality of life improvements
- General user experience adjustments
All of this reinforces the feeling that Nexon wants to use Episode 4 as an update that is both corrective and expansive: more content, but with less friction in existing systems.
The community is already shifting its focus toward two main questions: to what extent the new Onslaught Mode will change the endgame, and whether the farming tweaks will be deep enough to alter the usual pace of progression.
Set to launch on May 21, The First Descendant is gearing up for an update that looks both toward the future of the endgame and at one of the biggest challenges of any modern looter shooter: making repetitive content still feel rewarding.
