The First Descendant prepares a major July 15 update with Extreme battles and new Serena builds

The First Descendant is setting up a substantial July 15 update with a new Dev Note led by Jason, outlining a patch focused on higher-difficulty endgame content, balance adjustments and fresh build options for several Descendants. The headline additions are Void Intercept Battle: Extreme, two new Serena Transcendent Modules, a monthly balance update for Blair, adjustments for Ines, weapon tuning, system improvements, new skins and a wider event schedule running through July and August.
Void Intercept Battle: Extreme raises the ceiling for endgame farming
The most important addition in the July 15 update is Void Intercept Battle: Extreme, launching first in beta. The mode consolidates Hard Void Intercept and Void Abyss Intercept into a single structure, creating a clearer endgame path for players who want tougher Colossus battles and better farming efficiency.
The progression model is built around escalation. Players first need to defeat each Void Intercept Colossus and meet the required Mastery Rank for each encounter. Once all normal Colossi in Extreme are defeated, Critical Point Breakthrough becomes available, allowing players to apply modifiers that increase difficulty in exchange for improved farming efficiency.
That design is a strong fit for The First Descendant’s current endgame needs. Rather than simply adding one harder boss tier, Critical Points give players a way to tune challenge through specific penalties and enemy advantages. These can include reduced Descendant shield or defense, increased Colossus physical or attribute attack, damage taken when using the grappling hook, or reduced movement speed. The higher the Critical Point value, the stronger the reward efficiency becomes.
This is a sensible structure because it lets different groups choose their own risk level. Highly optimized squads can push higher modifiers for efficiency and leaderboard placement, while more casual endgame players can engage with Extreme without immediately being forced into the harshest possible settings.
Completing Extreme grants Quality Certified ETA Vouchers, which can be exchanged for limited items in the season-exclusive shop. Nexon also plans to adjust Critical Point balance for about a month during the beta period before officially launching Extreme in Season 4, where a leaderboard will rank players by their highest Critical Point value.
Serena gets new build paths while Ines is pulled back
The update also makes important changes to Serena, one of the main balance targets of the July 15 patch. Her Redemption skill is being adjusted so its existing AoE additional damage is split into Base Additional Damage and AoE Additional Damage. The stated goal is to strengthen her single-target firepower more clearly while preventing AoE performance from scaling too aggressively over time.
That balance direction is important because Serena needs to remain powerful without becoming mandatory in specific content. Nexon has said it wants an environment where multiple Descendants can be used across different activities, rather than pushing players toward one dominant choice for a given mode.
To support that, Serena is also receiving two new Transcendent Modules: Battlefield Nun and Archangel.
Battlefield Nun is focused on firearm-based single-target damage while airborne. It lowers AoE damage in exchange for stronger focused damage, rewards precise weak-point hits with Consecration stacks, and lets players consume those stacks to summon Aurora for explosive burst damage.
Archangel pushes Serena toward an airborne skill-based playstyle. While midair, it increases skill power and skill critical hit rate, changes her first skill into a projectile attack, modifies her third skill into an aerial bombardment tool, and allows her fourth skill to consume Holy Passion stacks for stronger projectile-based damage.
Ines, meanwhile, is being adjusted downward. Nexon’s Dev Note states that gameplay data after patch 1.3.32 showed Ines holding a considerable performance advantage in major content such as Onslaught Mode Level 3, Axion Plains and Bounty Operations. As a result, the skill power damage of Dark Current will be adjusted in patch 1.3.34, with further monitoring planned after release.
Blair receives a broader monthly balance pass
The July 15 update also makes Blair the focus of the monthly balance pass. This is not framed as a minor numerical tweak. Nexon says his base skills and many modules are being reworked to make Flame Zones more versatile and to improve his effectiveness against single targets.
The most notable change is tied to Deadly Feast, Blair’s fourth skill. Previously, he could not fire projectiles at the same target, which limited his single-target damage potential. The update improves this so projectiles can be fired at the same target, allowing Blair to deal much higher damage when focused properly.
His Next-level Recipe module also receives damage increases for skills 1 and 3. The intended result is clear: Blair should feel less restricted, more flexible and more competitive in situations where sustained fire damage and focused target pressure matter.
Weapon updates, system improvements and summer events
The July 15 patch also includes weapon balance adjustments for Divine Punishment and The Final Masterpiece, alongside broader improvements to firearm core types, skill cooldown reduction, rolling and resurrection effects. New Trigger Modules are also coming, although the final practical impact of those changes will depend on the full patch notes and how the numbers land in live play.
The update is also connected to a larger event schedule. Descendant’s Firepower Check Mission runs from July 15 to August 19, giving players a reason to test Serena and Blair’s updated combat power while earning rewards, including a Fire Transcendent Module Selection Box that contains Serena’s new Transcendent Modules.
Other events include Accelerate Research Week, Descendant’s Weekend, Dismantle Ancestors Module Week, Readjustment Discount Weekend and Today’s Readjustment Benefit, offering research acceleration, boosted rewards, module dismantling incentives and discounts around Ancestors Module readjustment.
A patch aimed at build diversity and harder long-term progression
The July 15 update looks like an important midpoint before Season 4: The Great Clash arrives in August. Void Intercept Battle: Extreme gives endgame players a new permanent challenge structure, Serena gains two distinct build paths, Blair receives much-needed attention, and Ines is being brought closer to the rest of the roster after outperforming in key activities.
The main risk is balance. Extreme needs to feel demanding without becoming a narrow meta check, Serena’s new modules need to create real choices rather than one obvious best build, and Blair’s improvements need to make him relevant without overcorrecting. If Nexon lands those adjustments, the July 15 update could give The First Descendant a stronger bridge into Season 4 and a healthier endgame loop for players who want more than routine farming.
