Soviet pilot Pavel Golovachev carved his name into aviation history, scoring over 30 aerial victories during World War II. A true ace of the skies, he was twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his fearless combat achievements.
During the East Prussian Operation in December 1944, Golovachev ran out of ammunition while chasing a German reconnaissance aircraft. Undeterred, he rammed it with his La-7’s propeller, severing the enemy’s tail before stabilizing his aircraft and returning safely to base. For this daring maneuver, he received the Order of the Red Banner, later earning his second Hero of the Soviet Union title.
Following this feat, he claimed ten more victories near Königsberg, eventually transitioning to a Yak-9 and continuing his mission over Berlin’s war-torn skies.
