TennoCon 2026 opens Warframe’s path to Tau with Brysko, Fornax and a full year-end roadmap

27/07/2026 - 07:50

TennoCon 2026 has established the next major transformation of Warframe: the Tenno are finally leaving the Origin System.

Warframe: Tau will launch in late 2026 across all supported platforms, opening a new Star Chart within a binary star system that has existed at the center of the game’s mythology for years without becoming a permanent destination.

The first stage of that journey leads to Fornax, an orbital Sentient metropolis transformed from a supposed paradise into a rain-soaked center of crime, addiction and political corruption. Players will follow Albrecht Entrati into its criminal underworld with Brysko, a noir-inspired Warframe armed with an Exalted pistol and a pair of brutal fist weapons.

Digital Extremes also confirmed that Fornax is only one part of the launch. Another location remains unrevealed, suggesting that Tau will be considerably broader than the urban infiltration demonstrated during TennoLive.

The expansion is not the only major update still scheduled for 2026. Amir’s Shockwave arrives on August 12 with a new Nightwave Mix and permanent KIM narrative. The fall update, Iceblade of Narin, will introduce Warframe’s 66th playable frame, a Banshee rework, two Deluxe Collections and Citrine Prime before the journey to Tau begins.

TennoCon therefore presented more than one distant cinematic promise. It outlined a sequence of updates intended to carry Warframe from the consequences of The Old Peace into an entirely new solar system.

Tau is Warframe’s most important geographical expansion

Warframe has expanded repeatedly without leaving the broad boundaries of the Origin System.

Digital Extremes has added open landscapes, hidden dimensions, Orokin laboratories, alternate timelines, the Zariman, Duviri, 1999 and reconstructed memories of distant wars. Those locations radically changed the game’s tone and mechanics, but they remained connected to the same historical and geographical center.

Tau changes that structure.

The new expansion takes players beyond the limits of the established Star Chart and into a separate binary star system. This is not another moon, ship or concealed region waiting behind an existing node. It is a new astronomical territory with its own societies, environments and evolved forms of Sentient life.

That distinction creates considerable expectations.

A new system should not feel like one additional destination attached to the edge of the existing map. It needs enough narrative, environmental and mechanical identity to justify crossing the distance between the Origin System and Tau.

Digital Extremes appears aware of that burden. Fornax is described as the beginning of the new Star Chart rather than its complete expression, and at least one additional launch location remains hidden.

Warframe: Tau must establish the foundations of a region capable of supporting years of future updates, not merely one cinematic quest completed over a weekend.

The Old Peace transformed Tau from legend into remembered history

Tau has been present throughout Warframe’s lore because it was central to the conflict between the Orokin Empire and the Sentients.

For much of the game’s history, players understood that conflict through fragmented accounts, unreliable memories and the consequences left behind in the Origin System. The Old Peace changed that relationship by allowing the Operator to experience reconstructed memories from the war directly.

Using Albrecht Entrati’s Dark Refractory, players entered a fragile period between the Orokin and their Sentient creations, witnessed the failure of an attempted peace and confronted the Operator’s own involvement in that buried history.

The update did not permanently relocate the player to Tau. Its Perita Rebellion mode returned to a Tau moon through controlled memories limited by time.

Warframe: Tau is the next step.

Instead of observing the system through historical reconstruction, the Tenno will travel there physically and discover what became of it after the Old War. The distinction between memory and present-day reality gives the expansion one of its strongest narrative questions.

The Sentient civilization encountered in Tau will not necessarily resemble the armies remembered by the Operator.

Centuries have passed, societies have developed and Fornax has evolved into a place with its own classes, criminal structures and cultural practices. The Sentients are no longer only the enemy force that invaded the Origin System. They are residents of a deteriorating world carrying the consequences of a history the Tenno helped create.

Lotus has opened the route, but Albrecht Entrati remains ahead

The official Tau overview states that the Lotus has been temporarily freed from the Indifference’s grasp, allowing the long-awaited route beyond the Origin System to be found.

That wording leaves the wider threat unresolved.

The Lotus may be free for the moment, but the Indifference has not been presented as permanently defeated. Warframe’s recent narrative has repeatedly connected Albrecht Entrati, the Void and the Man in the Wall through conflicts that extend across time and identity.

Albrecht is already operating inside Tau before the player arrives.

The Tenno will follow his trail and help him infiltrate Fornax’s criminal underworld, continuing the pattern established by Whispers in the Walls, Warframe: 1999 and The Old Peace. Albrecht understands more about the approaching threat than almost anyone, but he rarely provides information without manipulating the people around him.

His presence gives the mission an immediate objective while creating another source of distrust.

The Tenno may be assisting his investigation, but that does not mean they understand what he wants from Tau, why he has selected Fornax or what he intends to do after reaching the Sentient underworld.

The expansion’s noir structure is therefore appropriate. The detective is following clues supplied by a man who may be responsible for creating part of the mystery.

Fornax is a paradise that survived long enough to become a slum

The first Tau destination is Fornax, an orbital ring city constructed by the Sentients.

It was once part of the paradise associated with Tau, but the passage of time has transformed it into a distorted version of that original ambition. Crime, sickness and betrayal dominate the city, while an endless black rain carries madness-inducing consequences through its streets.

The environment combines several forms of urban decay.

Addicts occupy the slums. Criminal enforcers control local neighborhoods. Thugs operate around the docks. A casino sits at the center of the city’s economy, offering one of the few apparent routes toward legitimate wealth while the surrounding population struggles beneath organized violence.

This is a substantial visual departure from the Sentient environments players already know.

Warframe has traditionally portrayed Sentient spaces through alien geometry, advanced machines and military architecture. Fornax adds commercial districts, nightlife, residential desperation and a functioning criminal economy.

The Sentients are being presented as a civilization rather than a combat faction.

Their city contains poverty, entertainment, organized crime, social hierarchy and inhabitants attempting to survive between larger powers. That should make Tau more narratively complicated than a conventional invasion destination.

The Tenno are not entering an empty enemy stronghold. They are entering somebody else’s damaged home.

The black rain could make the city itself an active threat

The persistent black rain is one of the most distinctive elements of Fornax.

Digital Extremes describes it as madness-inducing and warns players not to become overconfident when it begins to fall. That language suggests it may influence combat or mission conditions rather than functioning only as atmospheric decoration.

The exact mechanics have not yet been fully detailed.

The rain could alter enemy behavior, visibility, environmental hazards or the effects of Bloom. It may appear dynamically, creating periods in which familiar routes become more dangerous or the Fornax Drowners receive additional power.

A changing environmental condition would help distinguish the city from Warframe’s conventional tilesets.

Fornax should not simply be a series of alleys and interiors using Sentient textures. Its weather needs to influence how players move, fight and interpret the people living beneath it.

The strongest possibility is that the rain changes both enemies and the player’s perception of events. A noir investigation becomes more effective when the environment itself cannot be treated as entirely reliable.

Digital Extremes will need to keep those effects readable. Atmospheric disorientation can strengthen the fiction, but losing control without understanding the reason would make the city frustrating rather than oppressive.

Brysko turns Warframe into a noir protagonist

Brysko is the new Warframe associated with the Tau storyline.

He works with Albrecht Entrati to infiltrate Fornax’s criminal underworld, pursuing leads with a combination of determination, cynicism and controlled violence. Although he remains silent to other characters, players hear an internal monologue revealing the thoughts hidden behind the usual Warframe exterior.

That presentation is unusual.

Warframes have distinct themes and personalities communicated through animation, abilities and lore, but they do not normally narrate their own actions through an audible internal voice. Brysko’s monologue gives Digital Extremes a method of recreating noir detective fiction without requiring him to become a conventional speaking protagonist in every interaction.

The contrast is important.

To the inhabitants of Fornax, Brysko may appear to be another silent and unreadable Warframe. To the player, he becomes a cynical investigator commenting on the city, its suspects and his own decisions.

This allows the story to preserve the Warframe’s external mystique while giving the new character a stronger authored identity.

The risk is overuse. Noir narration can establish tone efficiently, but constant commentary may weaken player discovery when Brysko explains every visual clue or emotional implication.

The internal monologue should reveal character, not substitute for environmental storytelling.

Corecracker gives Brysko the weapon of a futuristic detective

Brysko’s first confirmed signature weapon is Corecracker, an Exalted pistol.

An Exalted weapon is directly tied to a Warframe’s abilities rather than equipped as an ordinary independent firearm. That places Corecracker at the center of Brysko’s gameplay identity.

The pistol suits the noir premise immediately.

Detective fiction is closely associated with handguns, sudden confrontations and protagonists capable of resolving an investigation through violence when the evidence leads to the wrong room. Corecracker translates that imagery into Warframe’s faster and more destructive combat system.

Its name suggests a weapon designed specifically against Sentient cores or armored targets, although Digital Extremes has not yet published a complete ability breakdown.

The important mechanical question will be how it distinguishes itself from Mesa’s Regulators and other powerful secondary weapons.

Another Exalted pistol cannot rely solely on high damage or visual style. Corecracker needs a relationship with investigation, targeting, evidence or Brysko’s wider ability loop.

It could reward identifying marked enemies, exploiting discovered weaknesses or chaining attacks between suspects connected by an ability. Those possibilities remain speculative until Digital Extremes reveals the complete kit.

The weapon’s thematic foundation is strong. Its final design needs to make Brysko feel like an investigator rather than another gunslinger.

Rain & Shine gives the detective a considerably less subtle option

Brysko is also associated with Rain & Shine, a pair of fist weapons.

The contrast with Corecracker communicates his two-sided combat identity.

The pistol suggests investigation at a distance, controlled execution and precision. The fists represent what happens when the investigation reaches somebody unwilling to cooperate.

Fist weapons also fit the physicality of Fornax.

The city’s enforcers and knucklebusters appear designed for close combat, while narrow alleys, docks and interior spaces should give Brysko repeated opportunities to engage at short range.

The title Rain & Shine may refer directly to the city’s weather and neon visual identity, or to two differently functioning weapons within the pair. Digital Extremes has not yet confirmed whether they are standard equippable fist weapons, another ability component or a weapon with form-changing properties.

Together with Corecracker, they establish a character capable of shifting between ranged execution and close-quarters brutality.

That combination should allow Brysko to remain effective throughout Fornax rather than depending on one narrow engagement distance.

The Fornax Drowners prove that Sentient evolution did not stop after the war

The principal enemy faction revealed for the city is the Fornax Drowners.

They include hired enforcers, thugs and heavy-handed criminal muscle who have evolved far beyond the Sentient units familiar from the Origin System. Their existence is one of the most important details in the reveal.

The Sentients encountered by the Tenno have often been understood through their roles in an ancient military conflict. Fornax demonstrates that Sentient life continued developing after that period.

The Drowners are not merely reskinned Battalysts or Conculysts operating under another commander. They belong to an urban society shaped by crime, Bloom and the black rain.

That gives Digital Extremes freedom to create enemies based on social function as well as battlefield classification.

A dock enforcer, casino guard and street-level addict may all be Sentient while behaving very differently. Their weapons and bodies can reflect adaptation to Fornax rather than the requirements of the Old War.

The new faction also creates a balancing challenge.

Warframe’s high-level players can eliminate ordinary enemies extremely quickly. The Drowners need mechanics that reward attention without reproducing the most frustrating forms of invulnerability, damage attenuation or ability immunity.

Evolution should make them tactically distinctive, not simply harder to kill.

The Hunra sits at the center of Tau’s first criminal conspiracy

Fornax is controlled by the Hunra, a violent kingpin who dominates the city’s rackets through fear, loyalists and the distribution of Bloom.

The title may refer to an individual identity or a criminal position within the city’s hierarchy. The initial presentation treats the Hunra as an almost untouchable boss whose followers are willing to die for the possibility of gaining favor.

Reaching this figure appears to be the objective driving Brysko and Albrecht’s infiltration.

The casino at the center of Fornax may function as the Hunra’s principal base, placing the expansion’s first major antagonist above a system where desperation, gambling and addiction continually produce new victims.

The character needs more than physical strength to justify that position.

Warframe already contains numerous leaders capable of commanding armies. The Hunra should feel dangerous because of influence, information and control over the city’s dependencies.

Removing a criminal boss does not automatically repair the system that created them. Somebody else can take the position, the trade in Bloom can continue and the populations dependent on the criminal economy may suffer further instability.

That gives the Tau storyline room to ask whether the Tenno are liberating Fornax or merely eliminating the person standing between Albrecht and his next clue.

Bloom appears to be both commodity and corruption

Bloom is referenced throughout the Fornax presentation.

It is connected to the city’s deterioration, the Hunra’s power, local addiction and even one of the suits used in Portau. The exact nature of the substance or phenomenon has not yet been fully explained.

Its repeated appearance indicates that it will be central to the expansion.

Bloom may be a drug, energy source, biological process, Sentient material or several of those things simultaneously. It has enough economic value to support criminal rackets and enough psychological influence to contribute to Fornax’s social collapse.

The name creates an intentional contradiction.

Blooming normally suggests growth, beauty and renewal. In Fornax, it appears connected to sickness, dependency and corruption. The paradise built by the Sentients may still be producing new life, but that growth has become uncontrolled or exploitative.

Digital Extremes should resist explaining Bloom entirely through one exposition sequence.

Its effects can be communicated through enemies, architecture, environmental changes and the different ways Fornax’s inhabitants depend upon it.

Portau is Warframe’s first original card game

Players will be able to visit the casino and participate in Portau, the first original card game created specifically for Warframe.

Portau uses four suits: Blooms, Cores, Moons and Suns.

Digital Extremes has not yet explained the complete rules, reward structure or whether cards will be collected outside the casino. The TennoLive demonstration established it as a playable activity rather than background decoration.

Its inclusion gives Fornax an important non-combat system.

Warframe’s destinations are more convincing when they include activities reflecting how the local population lives. Fishing, conservation, racing and board-game-style diversions help settlements feel like societies rather than vending hubs positioned between missions.

Portau serves that function while reinforcing the noir casino atmosphere.

It can also become a long-term collection system when supported properly. Unique opponents, regional card variants, cosmetic rewards or difficult challenge hands could give players reasons to return after completing the cinematic storyline.

The danger is that it becomes a novelty with shallow rules and little incentive beyond one mandatory match.

Warframe’s first original card game should be substantial enough to justify the designation.

Fornax is only the beginning of the Tau Star Chart

The TennoCon gameplay demonstration focused on Fornax, but Digital Extremes explicitly confirmed that another unrevealed location will launch with the full Tau update.

That detail is essential.

A new Star Chart containing only one principal destination would struggle to feel like an entirely separate system. A second location allows Digital Extremes to demonstrate environmental and cultural variation within Tau from the beginning.

It may also prevent Fornax’s noir identity from defining the entire system.

The city is urban, criminal and rain-soaked. Another destination could reveal a radically different part of Sentient civilization: an untouched region, military territory, ruined battlefield or location operating outside the Hunra’s influence.

Nothing beyond its existence has been confirmed.

Digital Extremes should preserve that secrecy until the new area can be shown with enough context to explain why it matters. The Tau reveal already contains substantial information, and another location deserves more than a few disconnected images at the end of a trailer.

The Vessel gives the Tenno a symbol of the journey ahead

TennoCon’s in-game relay introduced players to a personal Vessel connected to the coming journey.

After the temporary relay closed, Digital Extremes made the Vessel available from any Dry Dock to players who had completed Vor’s Prize. It can be viewed and personalized ahead of the Tau expansion.

The function of the Vessel has not yet been fully explained.

It may become the vehicle or hub associated with travel beyond the Origin System, but Digital Extremes has not provided enough information to define its complete gameplay role. It should not be treated as a Railjack replacement or another controllable spacecraft until those mechanics are officially confirmed.

For now, it functions as a physical promise.

Players can see and customize something connected to Tau months before the new Star Chart opens. Arturos and Zioa are also expected to answer their calling later in the year, suggesting that the Vessel will acquire further narrative significance before departure.

That gradual activation can make the journey feel prepared rather than instantaneous.

The Tenno are not selecting Tau from a menu after one update download. Their infrastructure, allies and understanding of the route are being assembled across several releases.

Amir takes over Nightwave on August 12

The next confirmed update arrives considerably earlier than Tau.

Amir’s Shockwave launches on August 12 and places Amir of The Hex in control of a remixed Nightwave series. The update will include new 1999-themed rewards such as the Globakk Syandana, Kaneshell Atomicycle Regalia and Teisatz Oculus.

Nightwave normally operates through broadcasts hosted by Nora Night, combining daily, weekly, elite and permanent acts with a rotating reward track.

Amir’s takeover gives the system a different personality.

His rapid speech, technical obsession and chaotic enthusiasm should create a very different presentation from Nora’s controlled pirate-radio narration. The event also creates another bridge between the Origin System and 1999, allowing rewards from that period to appear during ordinary Warframe progression.

The complete reward catalogue has not yet been published.

Players should also distinguish Amir’s Shockwave from the new narrative content launching alongside it. One is a limited Nightwave Mix. The other is a permanent addition to the KIM system.

Running Late turns KIM into a playable tabletop campaign

Fables & Frontiers: Running Late is a six-day KIM mini narrative adventure hosted by Amir.

It adapts the fictional tabletop game associated with Warframe: 1999 into a new conversational storyline. Players will need to complete The Hex finale, reach Rank 5 with The Hex Syndicate and achieve Close-level chemistry with Amir before gaining access.

The requirements make the story deliberately personal.

Amir is not inviting an unknown player into the adventure. Running Late becomes available only after the Drifter has built a substantial relationship with him and completed the major Hex progression systems.

Rewards include an Atomicycle Key Sugatra, character-themed Fables & Frontiers Glyphs and returning items from Nora’s Mix Volume 8. They can be obtained from Amir in a new section of the Höllvania Central Mall by spending Hex Standing.

Most importantly, Running Late is permanent.

It is launching with Amir’s Shockwave but is not tied to the Nightwave season’s expiration. Players who meet the prerequisites later will still be able to experience the narrative.

That distinction prevents character development from becoming temporary content and gives the KIM system another function beyond romance conversations.

Iceblade of Narin is the final major bridge before Tau

Warframe’s fall 2026 update is titled Iceblade of Narin.

Digital Extremes has not yet revealed its central narrative, new Warframe or complete activity structure. The name and first teaser establish a colder thematic identity, but the update remains intentionally less detailed than Tau.

Its confirmed content includes:

  • Warframe’s 66th playable frame.
  • A Banshee ability and playability rework.
  • A new Banshee Deluxe Collection.
  • A Qorvex Deluxe Collection.
  • Citrine Prime Access.
  • Additional unrevealed content.

The next major information release is scheduled for the September 4 Devstream.

Iceblade of Narin occupies an important position in the roadmap.

It must provide enough substantial content to stand independently while also preparing the narrative or systems required for Tau. If it functions only as a waiting room for the year-end expansion, its new Warframe and reworks may be overshadowed before release.

Digital Extremes has avoided presenting it as a simple prologue. The update has its own name, visual identity and headline content, suggesting that the connection to Tau may be indirect rather than another explicit staging mission.

Banshee’s rework needs to preserve sound as more than a damage multiplier

Banshee will receive a long-requested rework alongside her first Deluxe Collection since 2016.

Her theme remains one of Warframe’s most distinctive concepts: manipulating sound to reveal weaknesses, suppress enemy awareness and convert sonic force into destruction.

The problem is that parts of her kit have become uneven within the modern game.

Sonar can create enormous damage amplification, but Banshee’s survivability and wider ability interactions make her difficult to justify in many forms of fast public play. Silence remains useful and has found value through the Helminth system, while Sound Quake has struggled to remain competitive as Warframe’s movement and enemy design evolved.

Digital Extremes says the rework will improve her sound-based abilities and overall playability.

That needs to involve more than raising numerical damage.

Banshee should become better at controlling how enemies detect, communicate and respond to the squad. Sound can provide information, disruption and defensive value without turning her into another conventional armor-stripping damage platform.

The rework also needs to account for Silence’s popularity as a transferable Helminth ability. Improving Banshee herself should not depend entirely on a tool that other Warframes can already acquire.

Banshee and Qorvex receive opposite Deluxe fantasies

Banshee’s new Deluxe design is built around darkness, nightmares and nocturnal imagery. Community artist Mischka created the concept, giving the “scream queen” a more explicitly horror-oriented presentation.

Qorvex’s Deluxe Collection takes another direction.

The concrete and radiation-themed Warframe will receive a design inspired by gargoyles and Gothic architecture, expanding the monumental qualities already present in Albrecht Entrati’s original creation.

Both collections reinterpret their Warframes without abandoning the foundations of the base designs.

Banshee converts sound into something associated with unseen nocturnal threats. Qorvex transforms industrial concrete into the carved weight of a Gothic structure.

The Deluxe Collections will inevitably attract attention, but they should remain secondary to the mechanical update.

A striking Banshee skin cannot compensate for a rework that fails to give the Warframe a clearer role in contemporary missions.

Citrine Prime continues the normal progression beneath the major reveals

Citrine will receive the next Prime Access release later in 2026.

Her crystalline body and gem-based visual identity should translate naturally into the gold, white and polished materials associated with Prime Warframes. The release will include upgraded Prime weapons, accessories and the usual acquisition options, although the complete equipment list remains unrevealed.

Citrine Prime is a more conventional part of the roadmap, but that normality is useful.

Warframe’s live service cannot operate exclusively through cinematic expansions. Prime Access, Nightwave, reworks, Deluxe Collections and seasonal events provide regular progression between the larger narrative releases.

TennoCon’s roadmap demonstrates that those layers will continue while Tau is developed.

Players do not need to wait until the end of the year for the next meaningful update. August and fall both contain new progression tracks, narrative content and character changes before the new system opens.

The 2026 roadmap has a clear escalation structure

Digital Extremes has arranged the remaining year around increasingly substantial changes.

August returns to Warframe: 1999 through Amir’s Shockwave and Running Late.

Iceblade of Narin introduces a new Warframe, major rework, Prime Access and cosmetic collections during the fall.

Warframe: Tau then moves the entire narrative and Star Chart beyond the Origin System in late 2026.

That sequencing allows each update to serve a different part of the audience.

Nightwave supports regular challenge progression. KIM content serves players invested in The Hex. The Banshee rework addresses an older frame. Citrine Prime strengthens the collection and trading economy. Tau delivers the major cinematic expansion expected from TennoCon.

The structure is convincing on paper, but the schedule leaves little room for significant delays or underdeveloped releases.

Warframe: Tau is not a small undertaking. A new system, enemy faction, Warframe, urban environment, card game, narrative chapter and unrevealed second location require substantial testing.

Digital Extremes must resist allowing the symbolic importance of reaching Tau to push the expansion out before its systems are ready.

Tau needs to become a living destination rather than a completed quest

The greatest challenge facing Warframe: Tau is longevity.

Warframe has produced exceptional cinematic quests that changed the game’s story while leaving their associated locations with limited reasons to return after the initial release. Tau cannot afford to follow that pattern.

Fornax needs repeatable activities, progression systems, resources and inhabitants whose stories continue after the Hunra’s first confrontation. Portau may provide one secondary activity, but the city requires a larger gameplay loop capable of supporting long-term engagement.

The Fornax Drowners need enough internal variety to remain interesting across repeated missions. Black rain should affect the destination dynamically. Brysko needs an acquisition route and build identity that remain relevant outside his cinematic introduction.

The second launch location will be equally important.

Two environments can create a meaningful Tau foundation only when each has a distinct purpose and enough content to justify returning. The new Star Chart should feel like the beginning of a persistent region rather than an elaborate corridor leading toward one boss.

TennoCon 2026 has finally made Tau tangible

Tau has spent years functioning as a distant idea within Warframe.

It was the destination connected to the Sentients, the Old War and histories the Tenno could understand only through fragments. The Old Peace allowed players to remember part of that conflict. Warframe: Tau will allow them to see what survived it.

Fornax is not the paradise the Orokin imagined or the pristine homeland players may have expected. It is a diseased ring city controlled through crime, Bloom and madness-inducing rain.

Brysko enters that environment as a silent noir investigator with a voice only the player can hear. Albrecht Entrati remains several steps ahead. The Drowners represent Sentient evolution beyond the old battlefield, while the Hunra turns the city’s suffering into personal power.

Before that journey begins, Amir will take over Nightwave on August 12 and Iceblade of Narin will reshape Banshee while introducing another new Warframe during the fall.

TennoCon 2026 has therefore given Warframe a complete direction for the rest of the year.

The Origin System is not being abandoned. Its characters, unfinished conflicts and systems are constructing the route outward.

When that route finally opens, the Tenno will not be returning to the Tau remembered from the war.

They will enter the civilization that grew from its ruins.
