Digital Extremes has released the official gameplay trailer for Warframe’s next major update, Iceblade of Narin, confirming that it will launch across all supported platforms on September 23, 2026. Featuring narration by actor Choi Han, the new preview introduces an icy mystery connected to the Tenno’s past and the growing influence of the Man in the Wall.
At the centre of the update is Narin, the 66th playable Warframe and the first female Warframe created around an ice-based combat theme. Described as a Sword Dancer, Narin combines rapid rapier attacks with abilities designed to heal, protect and control the battlefield.
Iceblade of Narin will also introduce Glacial Defiance, a new activity supporting teams of up to six players. The update returns to the Zariman Ten Zero, adds the dangerous Entropic Eximus enemy type and expands Cephalon Melica’s role through a previously unknown laboratory.
A substantial Banshee rework, changes to the Riven system, new customisation items and the arrival of Citrine Prime complete an update that extends well beyond the introduction of its titular Warframe.
An Icy Monument Appears on Yuvan Peak
The story begins on Yuvan Peak, a significant location on Earth where the Tenno first learned to control their Void powers. A mysterious frozen monument has appeared at its summit, coinciding with unusual activity aboard the Zariman and the emergence of another threat associated with the Man in the Wall.
Yuvan Peak will become a new social Relay situated on the dark side of Earth. Players visiting the summit will encounter Narin’s Crest and discover the Warframe’s legendary Iceblade trapped inside the frozen monument.
The location appears to serve several purposes within the update. It provides a narrative connection between Narin, the Tenno and the Void, while also operating as a gathering point through which players can prepare for the new activities. Certain enhancements required to fight the Entropic Eximus will also be obtained there.
Digital Extremes is encouraging players to check their current position within Warframe’s main questline before Iceblade of Narin arrives. The update deals directly with the Zariman and the Man in the Wall, meaning that access to its story content may depend on progress through Warframe’s later narrative quests.
Narin Dances Between Protection and Destruction
Narin is presented as a fast and elegant sword fighter whose movements resemble a carefully controlled dance. Her signature rapier supplies the offensive foundation of her combat style, while her control over ice allows her to defend allies and survive pressure.
This distinction is important because Narin is not being positioned simply as a female equivalent to Frost. Although both Warframes manipulate ice, their identities and apparent combat philosophies are different. Frost is traditionally associated with large defensive barriers, freezing enemies and protecting fixed objectives. Narin instead emphasises movement, precision and rapid transitions between attacking and defending.
Official written information describes her as capable of healing and protecting as deftly as she strikes with her rapier. That combination suggests a flexible role in which successful players will need to move intelligently between enemies and allies rather than remaining in one position.
Her design also complements the update’s focus on melee combat. Players confronting Entropic Eximus enemies will be encouraged to increase their Melee Damage at Yuvan Peak, creating a natural opportunity for Narin and her Iceblade to occupy the centre of the new gameplay loop.
Digital Extremes has not yet published a complete written breakdown containing the final statistics of every ability on the update page. Exact values, scaling and interactions should therefore be treated as provisional until the official update notes arrive on September 23.
Glacial Defiance Expands Squads to Six Tenno
Glacial Defiance is a new mission type created for groups containing as many as six Tenno. Standard Warframe missions normally support squads of four, making the increased player count one of the update’s most notable mechanical additions.
The activity is intended primarily for experienced players looking to test optimised equipment and coordinated squad compositions. Rather than delivering one fixed difficulty level, Glacial Defiance uses weekly Cryobells obtained from Yuvan Peak.
Cryobells contain unique modifiers and provide increased rewards. Their effects can stack across the squad, allowing a team to combine several modifiers and create a more demanding version of the mission. This structure gives players control over how far they want to push the challenge while rewarding groups capable of surviving the resulting escalation.
A six-player activity also changes how teams can distribute responsibilities. Larger squads can bring a broader collection of damage, crowd-control, protection and support tools, but stacked modifiers may punish poorly coordinated builds more severely than ordinary missions.
The weekly nature of Cryobells should give Glacial Defiance a recurring rhythm rather than turning it into content that is completed once and abandoned. Different combinations could encourage players to reconsider their Warframes and equipment as the available conditions change.
Entropic Eximus Invade the Zariman
Iceblade of Narin takes players back aboard the Zariman Ten Zero, where an unexplored area known as Melica’s Lab has been discovered. Cephalon Melica requires the Tenno’s assistance to contain the activity surrounding the laboratory and sever a dormant but expanding connection to the Man in the Wall.
The Entropic Eximus are the principal enemies associated with this storyline. These enhanced units will appear throughout the Zariman’s nodes and are designed to withstand conventional attacks more effectively than ordinary opponents.
Operators can damage Entropic Eximus enemies, although that damage will be applied at a reduced rate. Digital Extremes instead identifies enhanced melee attacks as the most effective response, with the necessary improvements connected to Yuvan Peak.
Defeated Entropic Eximus units have a chance to drop Entropic Kuva. This new resource can be traded with Cephalon Melica for rewards, including the blueprints needed to construct Narin.
The system establishes a direct progression loop: players visit Yuvan Peak to prepare their melee equipment, confront Entropic Eximus enemies aboard the Zariman, collect Entropic Kuva and exchange it for Narin’s components. Unless the final update notes introduce additional requirements, this will be the principal gameplay route for earning the new Warframe without purchasing her bundle.
Banshee Receives a Major Ability Rework
Narin is not the only Warframe receiving attention on September 23. Banshee’s sound-based ability set is being revised to improve survivability, fluidity and synergy while preserving her established identity as a Warframe capable of amplifying weapon damage.
Her passive will retain the ability to silence weapon noise. Casting abilities will additionally apply the maximum number of Puncture Status stacks to nearby enemies within ten metres.
Sonic Boom is becoming a one-handed ability that no longer locks Banshee in place. Instead of ragdolling enemies, it will push and stun them, deal more Impact damage and remove 70% of their Armour. That reduction can scale to 100% with sufficient Ability Strength. The functionality previously associated with the Sonic Fracture Augment is therefore moving into the base ability.
Sonar’s marked areas will count as conventional Weak Points, opening compatibility with a wider collection of Mods and Arcanes. The ability will prioritise unmarked body parts and will no longer immobilise Banshee during its casting animation.
Silence can be recast to refresh its duration and apply its stun again, while clearer visual effects will make affected targets easier to identify.
Sound Quake is receiving the most fundamental adjustment. It will no longer require continuous channelling and will instead create an area that persists for 25 seconds. Banshee becomes briefly invulnerable during the cast, while enemies inside the area suffer guaranteed Blast Status Effects.
The existing Resonating Quake Augment will be renamed Gaseous Quake and inherit a modified version of the old channelled behaviour. Its damage and Energy consumption will increase over time while adding Gas damage and Status Effects.
All of these details originate from a pre-release Developer Workshop and remain subject to adjustment before launch.
Every Player Can Claim Banshee for Free
To accompany the rework, Digital Extremes will give players a complete Banshee Warframe as a login reward. Anyone who enters Warframe between September 23 and October 7 can claim her for free.
The two-week availability window gives returning and newer players an accessible way to experiment with the revised abilities. It also ensures that the rework can be tested by a much larger portion of the community instead of being limited to players who already own Banshee.
Because the reward is tied to logging in, players do not need to complete Glacial Defiance or progress through the Iceblade of Narin storyline before claiming it. The offer ends on October 7, however, making it one of the few parts of the update with a confirmed expiration date.
Riven Mod Customisation Becomes More Controlled
The update will also make significant changes to Riven Mods. Players rerolling a Riven with Kuva will be able to preserve selected traits, reducing the risk of losing a desirable property while attempting to improve the rest of the Mod.
New Riven Splicers can be used through the Mod Segment inside the Orbiter. These items allow two Riven traits to be combined into a new trait selected from a special pool of possibilities.
Full costs, restrictions and probabilities have not yet been detailed in the written overview, so the real impact on Riven progression will only become clear once Digital Extremes publishes the complete update notes.
Additional content includes the Narin Bundle, Citrine Prime Access, the Banshee Threnodia and Qorvex Basilica Collections, and a new wave of TennoGen cosmetics. Community-created additions include an Entrati-inspired Syandana, new Signas, a Citrine helmet and the first TennoGen skin made for Jade.
A Frozen Prelude to Warframe’s Next Journey
Iceblade of Narin arrives while Warframe is preparing for its next major narrative movement beyond the Origin System. The frozen monument, Melica’s hidden laboratory and the growing connection to the Man in the Wall suggest that this update will contribute more than an isolated equipment hunt.
Its structure combines several layers of Warframe’s evolving design: a new character with a distinctive combat identity, a challenging six-player activity, repeatable progression, revisions to an older Warframe and improvements to a long-standing customisation system.
Players can begin investigating Yuvan Peak, hunting Entropic Eximus enemies and constructing Narin when Iceblade of Narin launches across all platforms on September 23. Those who log in before October 7 will also receive Banshee and immediate access to her redesigned ability set.
