World of Warcraft is a massive online multiplayer role videogame developed by Blizzard Entertainment. It is the fourth game launched that is set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, first introduced in Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994. World of Warcraft is set in the world of Azeroth, four years after the final events in the previous Warcraft addition, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on 2nd September 2001.

The game was launched 23rd November 2004, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the franchise.

There are a total of three playable races divided into two factions, the Alliance and Horde, being the thirteenth race (pandaren) shared by both teams. In the Alliance there are humans, gnomes, dwarves, night elves, drainei, worgons and pandarens. In most of the zones, the Alliance and the Horde are at war with each other, although there are also neutral zones like the floating city of Dalaran or the Shattrath city. These zones are known as sanctuaries.
