Wētā Workshop Forges Taldramir, the First Legendary Staff in World of Warcraft: Forever

Before anyone could wield Taldramir, the Whispering Wood in Azeroth, Wētā Workshop built it in the real world. Blizzard’s Forging Forever follows the making of the staff from the workbench to the finished replica, a process that runs for roughly five and a half hours on video. The result is also the reveal of World of Warcraft: Forever’s first Legendary weapon, unveiled as Blizzard’s reimagining of the original Azeroth opens to players.

The reveal started at a workbench

Blizzard first showed the build through a livestream in partnership with Wētā Workshop, which also worked on weapons and armour for the Warcraft film. The video spends its time on the physical construction rather than cutting to combat footage or an item tooltip. By the time the staff takes shape, the audience has seen the object Blizzard is asking players to hunt for in-game, even if the route to earning it remains a mystery.

The design may already look familiar. Wowhead identified the two-handed staff in the Skyborne key art, where it appeared before Blizzard publicly gave it a name. Its woodland look has also drawn comparisons to Druid equipment, but the design alone can’t tell players which classes will be able to equip it. Blizzard hasn’t published Taldramir’s stats, class restrictions or Legendary effect in the reveal.

How do you get Taldramir in WoW: Forever?

Blizzard hasn’t confirmed the acquisition method or the date players can first earn Taldramir. The official announcement names the staff and shows how Wētā made the replica. It doesn’t say whether the in-game hunt starts with a raid drop, a quest or a discovery elsewhere in Azeroth. Players weighing up a class or a raid roster have a confirmed weapon to look forward to, but no confirmed requirements to plan around yet.

There are clues for anyone who doesn’t mind potential spoilers. Icy Veins reports that data from an early Forever build points to a healing-oriented staff and possible steps involving Hyjal Summit, Un’Goro Crater and the Cenarion Circle. Those clues suggest a hunt that could stretch beyond a raid, but they come from datamining. They don’t establish a final quest order, a required boss difficulty or an official class restriction.

Hyjal Summit has a confirmed opening date

Blizzard had previously teased a Legendary reward while discussing Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps. Its raid overview now confirms that both open on 9 December 2026, alongside Onyxia’s Lair, for level 60 players. That’s the first confirmed date for groups to enter Hyjal Summit. It isn’t a confirmed release date for Taldramir itself.

Hyjal Summit is a 20-player raid set near the World Tree Nordrassil. It has 13 bosses and opens with an ancient guardian; after that fight, groups can choose from multiple paths through the mountain’s ruins. The Barrow Deeps is a smaller 10-player raid with eight bosses, while Onyxia’s Lair takes 40 players and requires every member to complete their faction’s attunement and carry the Drakefire Amulet. Those are concrete targets for players preparing for December, regardless of where the staff hunt begins.

The first Legendary sets the tone for a different Azeroth

World of Warcraft: Forever is a permanent version of Azeroth that runs alongside modern WoW and WoW Classic. It takes place after Warcraft III: Reforged – Forsaken Kingdom and before Molten Core, sending players through the original continents on their way to level 60. Blizzard says the journey includes more than 1,000 new quests, with new or reimagined areas such as Mount Hyjal, Shen’dralas and the Riverglades. Access is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time; the Skyborne packs are optional upgrades.

Forever keeps flying mounts and level scaling out of that journey, with Blizzard putting the emphasis on exploration, preparation and cooperation. Taldramir is the first named Legendary that players can look forward to in that version of Azeroth. For now, Forging Forever shows exactly what Wētā made. How adventurers will earn the staff is the part Blizzard has left for the game to reveal.
