World of Warcraft opens a new front against Xal’atath with uncharted zones, runic power, and an experimental raid in Midnight: Revelations

Blizzard has fully unveiled the content for Midnight: Revelations (Patch 12.0.7), one of the largest content drops in Midnight’s first season. The update takes players to two brand-new Void-dominated territories, introduces the Folio of the Omnium progression system, expands the Amani storyline alongside Zul'jan, and debuts Sporefall (Micosis), a new single-boss raid that will also serve as a testing ground for major changes to Mythic raiding.
Far from being a simple mid-tier patch, Blizzard has designed Revelations as a direct continuation of the main Midnight storyline. Xal'atath’s threat continues to grow, and players must hunt down her commanders across new worlds connected to the Void while uncovering secrets tied to the history of the elves of Quel'Thalas and the Amani trolls.
Naigtal and Val take the war against the Void beyond Azeroth
One of the core pillars of the update is the introduction of the new zones Naigtal and Val, two territories accessible through Void rifts that function as dynamic outdoor content areas.
Naigtal is presented as a world dominated by an eerie combination of arcane magic, giant fungi, and Void corruption. Operating there is the ethereal faction known as the Hal'hadar, one of the new primary enemies of the update. Meanwhile, Val is a frozen region marked by ancient vestiges of the Burning Legion and ruled by the powerful Domanaar Imperator Pertinax.
Both zones are part of a rotating system of Void invasions and assaults. Depending on the time, players will encounter different objectives, enemies, events, and world bosses, a design aimed at keeping outdoor content fresh and relevant for several weeks rather than being exhausted immediately upon launch.
The narrative revolves around hunting down Xal'atath's commanders, who are responsible for the recent offensives against Azeroth. Blizzard has made it clear that these regions are not mere side backdrops, but fundamental pieces to understanding the next chapter of the Midnight expansion.
The Folio of the Omnium introduces a new power system for the rest of the expansion
The main progression feature arrives with the Folio of the Omnium, a rune system designed to accompany players through the remainder of the expansion.
The storyline begins alongside Magister Umbric and Grand Magister Rommath, who are working to restore the legendary Omnium of the Sunstriders, an ancient elven artifact created to preserve magical knowledge. From there, players unlock an interface that allows them to select and empower various runes with offensive, defensive, and utility effects.
Unlike previous systems, the Folio of the Omnium does not occupy an equipment slot. Blizzard wanted to prevent players from having to replace pieces of armor or weapons to access this new power, turning it into a completely independent layer of progression.
The runes offer a wide array of options: some generate passive damage or healing, while others provide defensive shields, extra mobility, or stat increases. Additionally, the system includes choice nodes that allow players to customize their setup based on the content they are running—whether it be raids, Mythic+ dungeons, outdoor content, or solo play.
Blizzard has confirmed that progression will be tied to weekly activities, cementing the Folio of the Omnium as one of the key character development systems for the coming months.
Zul'jan brings the Amani back to the spotlight while an experimental raid arrives
The update also continues one of Midnight’s most intriguing storylines: the return of the Amani.
Players will join Zul'jan and Kinduru in a campaign centered on ancient troll secrets, the loa, and the future of the Amani civilization. The story will delve into the relationship between the trolls and their deities, while expanding the background of historical factions such as the Darkspear, Drakkari, Gurubashi, Amani, and Zandalari through new Lorewalking experiences.
In tandem comes Sporefall, a new raid set in Harandar that breaks away from World of Warcraft's traditional structure. Instead of featuring multiple encounters, the entire experience revolves around a single boss: Rotmire, a mammoth fungal entity tied to the corruption spreading across Naigtal.
The significance of this raid goes far beyond combat mechanics. Blizzard is using Sporefall to test a Flexible Mythic system, allowing group sizes to scale between 15 and 25 players. This represents a potentially historic shift for end-game content, which has traditionally been strictly locked to fixed 20-player groups.
If the experiment proves successful, it could pave the way for much deeper changes to future World of Warcraft raid designs.
What this means for players
From a practical standpoint, Revelations introduces new goals for virtually every type of player profile.
Those who enjoy character progression will find a permanent new source of power in the Folio of the Omnium. Outdoor content enthusiasts will receive two new zones filled with dynamic events, unique enemies, and rotating challenges. Those interested in the lore will experience one of the largest narrative expansions centered on troll history in years.
Meanwhile, raiders will gain access to high-tier gear through Sporefall, while the most competitive players will be able to test firsthand whether the Flexible Mythic system works as a viable evolution for the current raiding model.
Additionally, the update incorporates side activities such as the return of Turbulent Timeways, new events tied to the loa, UI improvements, Heroic world content, and new cosmetic rewards.
Blizzard sets the stage for Midnight’s next major chapter
Although Midnight: Revelations does not kick off a new season, it seems heavily designed to redefine the expansion's direction over the next few months.
The new zones directly push the war against Xal'atath forward, the Folio of the Omniumestablishes a progression loop that will stay with players for the rest of the expansion, and Zul'jan's story aims to become a major narrative focal point for the immediate future of World of Warcraft.
Coupled with an experimental raid that could change the future of raid design, Revelations shapes up to be far more than just a mid-tier catch-up patch: it is the first major step toward the next phase of the fight against the Void on Azeroth.
