Few live-service games remain at sea for more than a decade without losing momentum. On September 17, World of Warships officially celebrated its 11th anniversary, marking another year of naval battles, expanding fleets and community-driven competition since its original 2015 release.
Wargaming used the occasion to thank the Captains who have supported the game throughout that journey. However, the anniversary is not limited to a commemorative message. Update 15.8, titled 11 Years of Glory, surrounds the milestone with a new Port, free login rewards, Festive Tokens, an anniversary Event Pass, another Dockyard construction project and PvE Operations created for lower-tier ships.
A New Maritime Parade Port Welcomes Every Captain
Players entering World of Warships during Update 15.8 arrive in the new Maritime Parade Port, which provides a suitably ceremonial backdrop for the anniversary celebrations.
Completing the first battle of the update unlocks a Birthday Gift package in the Armory. The bundle includes 11 days of Warships Premium Account, the new Happy Blastday enemy destruction effect and the Blast & Bash permanent camouflage.
It also contains three Battle of Santiago de Cuba containers and three Red Steel Titan Premium containers. These are connected to two of the historical collections introduced as part of the anniversary festivities, giving every active player an immediate start on their respective reward tracks.
The structure of the gift is deliberately straightforward: play a battle, visit the Armory and claim the package. Unlike some of the update’s longer progression systems, it does not require an extended mission chain or a large collection of high-tier ships.
Festive Rewards Return Across Tier V and Higher
The familiar Festive Rewards system has returned for the anniversary, covering eligible Tier V–X ships and superships. Players can collect Festive Tokens from their qualifying vessels, while superships provide Steel.
This format gives established Captains a reason to revisit ships that may have spent months anchored in Port. A large collection consequently becomes more than a display of accumulated progress, as every eligible vessel can contribute toward the anniversary economy.
Festive Tokens can be exchanged for a broad selection of rewards. Among the most important is early access to the Japanese super cruiser Kurama, which is expected to enter the regular Tech Tree with Update 15.10.
Other exchange options include the Press F enemy destruction effect, bonus packages for superships and containers associated with the anniversary’s two collections. Depending on the size of a player’s fleet and their chosen exchanges, as many as 130 Supercontainers can also be obtained.
The system naturally favours veteran accounts with extensive Ports, but the separate Birthday Gift and Event Pass ensure that newer players are not entirely excluded from the celebrations.
Two Historical Collections Offer Major Final Rewards
The Red Steel Titan collection contains 60 elements and focuses on Soviet naval history. Completing it rewards the Tier IX Soviet battleship Sovetskaya Rossiya, alongside a commemorative flag and achievement.
The Battle of Santiago de Cuba collection follows a different historical subject. Completing its set grants the Spanish unique Commander Pascual Cervera y Topete, who commanded the Spanish squadron during the decisive 1898 engagement, together with an associated achievement.
Containers for both collections appear in the anniversary Birthday Gift and can be acquired through the event’s progression and exchange systems. This provides several routes toward completion rather than restricting every element to a single activity.
Wargaming has also expanded its Honorable Service Rewards. These annual account-based gifts are delivered on the anniversary of a player’s first battle, with their contents determined by the number of years served. A new reward package has been added specifically for Captains reaching 11 years in the game.
The 11 Years of Glory Event Pass Adds Two Reward Lines
Update 15.8 includes a dedicated 11 Years of Glory Event Pass filled with anniversary-themed items. Its free progression line contains the commemorative 11 Years of Glory flag, Commander delmar_83 and the Moonlight Wave and Radiant Wave permanent camouflages.
The final free reward is the Happy Blastday enemy destruction effect, which adds a celebratory finish when an opposing ship is eliminated.
A second premium progression line can be unlocked for 2,500 Doubloons. Purchasing it immediately grants Commander General Greenwood, while its level rewards include additional resources and the Tier VI Premium British light cruiser Orion ’44.
As always, players should evaluate the premium line according to the amount of progress they realistically expect to complete. The free track contains several of the update’s central commemorative items, while the paid option is primarily aimed at Captains interested in its exclusive Commander, Premium ship and additional rewards.
The Wishing Wharf Returns to the Anniversary Armory
The Armory now features a dedicated anniversary category containing Festive Token exchanges, a special Admiral Pack for the German Tier IX battleship Friedrich Carl and a new Wishing Wharf reward pool.
Each Wishing Wharf attempt costs 50 Wharf Tokens. Its potential rewards include five Tier VIII–X ships, with the Tier IX Japanese cruiser Chikuma Shō-Gō occupying the Supreme Reward category.
The Rare Rewards category includes Friedrich Carl, the Tier X Soviet cruiser Sibir, the Tier IX Spanish battleship Victoria and the Tier VIII Japanese cruiser Narai. Additional items and resources appear throughout the broader reward pool.
Because the Wishing Wharf uses a randomised reward structure, players should review the published probabilities, duplicate compensation rules and guaranteed-reward conditions before spending Tokens or Doubloons. Its presence forms part of the anniversary offering, but it is separate from the free Birthday Gift and the predictable Festive Token exchange catalogue.
Marlborough Returns to the Dockyard in Black
The anniversary update also opens another Dockyard project, this time centred on Marlborough B. The vessel is the Black Friday version of the Tier IX British battleship originally introduced through the Dockyard during Updates 10.11 and 11.0.
Marlborough B carries 16 356 mm main guns with a comparatively rapid reload, allowing it to place a substantial number of shells into the air. Its concealment is unusually effective for a battleship, but its armour and vulnerable citadel demand careful positioning.
Players can advance through the construction phases by completing Dockyard combat missions. These missions remain available throughout Update 15.8 and during the opening weeks of Update 15.9. Once the mission period ends, unfinished phases can only be completed with Doubloons before the Dockyard closes with Update 15.10.
The event gives returning players another opportunity to obtain a version of Marlborough, although progressing through a Dockyard always requires attention to its schedule and the number of mandatory paid phases.
Low-Tier Ships Receive Three New PvE Operations
Update 15.8 does something unusual for World of Warships by adding Operations specifically designed around lower-tier vessels. These scenarios give newer players more structured PvE content while allowing veterans to revisit ships that are rarely used outside Random Battles or Co-op.
Trial by Fire becomes available from Tier II and tasks the team with defending a strategic area against an approaching enemy fleet. Swarm of Steel begins at Tier III and focuses on destroying a damaged battleship before securing a Key Area and defeating its destroyer escort.
Beehive opens from Tier IV and requires players to capture an important position while working alongside an allied aircraft carrier. The enemy possesses carrier support of its own, which becomes increasingly important during the final stage.
All three Operations support ships through Tier VI. Their mechanics, secondary objectives and victory conditions become more complicated at higher tiers, preventing them from functioning as identical battles with only increased enemy health.
Killer Whale has additionally received a new version balanced for Tier V and VI ships. Its revised central objective involves locating a captured allied cruiser, freeing it and escorting the vessel to safety. The existing Killer Whale version remains available for Tier VI–VIII ships.
The Anniversary Extends Beyond the Game Client
Wargaming marked September 17 with an extended official anniversary broadcast featuring activities, community moments, giveaways and Twitch Drops.
The broadcast’s guaranteed Drop included a mission chain leading to a Premium Ship V Elite container, while a separate Mystery Drop offered economic containers and small chances of receiving higher-value Premium ship containers.
An accompanying Discord celebration invites players to share their personal World of Warships stories. Participants receive a Distant Voyages container, while selected submissions can earn Premium Ship VIII Elite containers. Availability and regional timing vary, so players should consult the official community channels before the activities conclude.
Eleven Years Powered by Its Captains
The anniversary message places the emphasis firmly on the community rather than presenting the milestone as a corporate achievement. World of Warships has accumulated hundreds of vessels, multiple national Tech Trees, submarines, aircraft carriers, competitive modes, PvE scenarios and years of mechanical revisions—but none of that would matter without an active population continuing to enter battle.
Update 15.8 reflects the different stages of that community. Long-serving Captains can convert enormous fleets into Festive Rewards, collectors can pursue historical sets and rare vessels, newer players receive accessible low-tier Operations, and everyone can claim the central Birthday Gift after a single battle.
Eleven years after the first Captains clicked the Download button, the naval guns are still firing. The anniversary is both a celebration of what World of Warships has become and an invitation to keep sailing into whatever comes next.
