World of Warships rewrites the Bismarck's destiny and turns Update 15.4 into a large-scale historical hunt

19/05/2026 - 10:45

One of the most famous naval operations in history returns to the center of combat. World of Warships has revealed all the major details for Update 15.4, an expansion spearheaded by The Hunt for Bismarck—an event directly inspired by the pursuit and sinking of the legendary German battleship during May 1941.

But this time, Wargaming poses a different question:

Bismarck set sail on her final mission… or was it?

That is precisely the concept driving the new season. The update transforms one of the most well-known naval episodes of World War II into an interactive experience where players can participate in a reinterpreted version of the historic hunt for the Bismarck, blending thematic accuracy with modern competitive mechanics.

The main pillar of the update will be an expanded version of the Bounty Hunt system, now much more closely tied to the historical conflict. According to Wargaming, players can act as hunters or become the primary target of the pursuit themselves, creating showdowns where survival will be just as valuable as offensive capability.

This approach fits seamlessly with the recent tone of World of Warships, which has spent considerable time using real-world historical events as the foundation for more dynamic, time-limited game modes.

However, The Hunt for Bismarck is not the only major addition in Update 15.4

Wargaming is also introducing a new line of Italian submarines in Early Access, described as a more aggressive and specialized generation. Everything points to these submarines betting on a less conventional, offensive playstyle, further expanding the tactical options available in naval combat.

The arrival of new ship lines always generates a lot of interest within the community, as it has the potential to shake up the competitive meta and standard fleet setups.

Additionally, the update incorporates quality-of-life improvements to the Clan interface, a feature that is especially relevant for players focused on organized competition or cooperative progression. While these changes usually receive less spotlight than new ships or flashy events, they often have a direct impact on the day-to-day gameplay experience.

Version 15.4 will also include standard balance adjustments and gameplay tweaks, continuing Wargaming’s ongoing efforts to keep performance in check across different naval classes.

The community is already paying close attention to the historical focus of the main event. The Bismarck remains one of the most recognizable icons of modern naval warfare, and turning its final mission into interactive content holds an obvious appeal for players interested in both strategy and military history.

Furthermore, the narrative premise—giving players the chance to symbolically alter the outcome—adds an extra layer of tension to the event.

With The Hunt for Bismarck, World of Warships proves once again that some historical battles never truly fade away. They simply wait for a new opportunity to be fought... only this time, with the final result still undecided. More information here.
