02/07/2024 - 12:12James Maurice Gavin was a Lieutenant General of the US Army, an outstanding theorist and practitioner of the use of airborne troops. As a colonel, he actively participated in the invasion of Sicily during Operation Husky, after which he was promoted to brigadier general. Despite this, he did not stop parachuting along his men, and became the only American general to make four combat parachute jumps during the war. For this, he received the “jumping general” nickname. He saw action until the end of the war, parachuting on D-Day and fighting in the Bulge.
