Olija

In Olija, we put ourselves in Faraday’s shoes, a man who has been shipwrecked and trapped in the mysterious country of Terraphage, whose goal is to find and rescue his crew members.

Devolver Digital is known for publishing a good selection of indie games, and Olija is another one of its gems. We’re faced with an interesting 2D title with quite unusual touches and hints of Metroidvania, which makes it unique for its rhythm and setting.

The game takes place on an archipelago called Terraphage, where our adventurer and his crew are shipwrecked. We take control of Faraday, and we must rescue the rest of the sailors who are scattered around the islands and bring them to our camp in Oaktide.

Faraday is an excellent swordsman, and his movements are very agile, but that’s not enough to face the challenges of Terraphage. We’ll have to find a magic harpoon, which turns out to be much more than a simple weapon. The harpoon, which for some is legendary and for others cursed, can be used in close combat, thrown and retrieved, and serves as an anchor point to reach distant places.

Through exploration, narration, and fast-paced combat, we’ll discover a strange world and its inhabitants, including Olija, an enigmatic lady with whom Faraday establishes a connection.

The game is inspired by swashbuckling tales and cinematic adventure games.

The “pixelart” visual style of Olija is minimalist, but it has been used in a very cinematic way. Both characters and settings are recreated with an enormous economy of detail, as we have seen in other indies like Superbrothers Sword and Sorcery or in classics like Another World.

This game is quite the adventure, and we recommend that you give it a try because it will hook you and you won’t be able to stop until you discover the story’s ending.
