Shing!

To set the stage, in Shing! we find ourselves in a situation in which the city is being attacked by demons and mysterious machines... Which is why only a group of 4 powerful ninjas that we can control has to recover the ancestral seed, a powerful artifact that, if not recovered, could mean the end of the world. It’s not a very original story, but it works in a game where the important thing is to kill and kill.

When it comes to gameplay, this is where the game really tries to innovate. The game uses the mythical WASD movement system, spacebar to jump, and shift to perform the typical dash, but the interesting part is the weapon handling, which is carried out via the mouse. We can left click to attack, but the cool thing is that the different game combos are represented based on the movements we carry out with the mouse. As for defense, we have the right mouse click which, if pressed at the right time, serves as a counterattack; otherwise, it’s a normal defense.

Apart from this, we’re dealing with the classic beat ‘em up in which we advance through a stage by defeating all the enemies that cross our path. Some enemies have a colored gem next to their health bar. The enemy releases it when defeated, and we can find health gems, lightning gems, or gems that increase hit damage.

Some enemies are quite complicated because they can counter us, and they’re the first ones with whom we’re forced to discover their weak points. At the end of the different levels, we face a sub-boss or boss. As is typical in beat ‘em ups, some sub-bosses will later become common enemies.

We can play the game solo or in co-op mode for up to 4 players. If we opt to go solo, we can put ourselves in the shoes of any of the 4 characters at any time. Each one has their own independent life bar.

In the graphics and sound area, it doesn’t stand out, but when it comes to art, it must be said that this game is very beautiful. The character and enemy designs are very successful.

With this title, you can become witness to what is known as the beat ‘em up 2.0!
